1. Shure SE215-CL

Shure SE215-CL

Overall Best Pick

  • Crisp and clean sound output
  • Good Passive noise isolation
  • Bundled carry case
BUY FROM AMAZON

Pros

Unique transparent design

Solid build quality

Comfort fit inside the ears

Cons

No inline microphone

Shure is a widely acclaimed American audio products manufacturer that is known for high-end earphones and headphones all around the world.

The Shure SE215 CL is a premium wired earphone that gives a bang for buck buying proposition especially if you’re a hardcore music listener.

Build Quality

This wired earphone will feel well made even from its looks. In hand, the carefully crafted earpieces and even the tiniest nozzle that extrudes the bass vibrations are made with utmost care.

The wire is thick & sturdy and it can withstand a few cases of abuse with no problems.

The detachable cable connector works well so that we won’t even feel it can be separated from the earpiece body.

The 1.6m cable is more than sufficient for the wire to reach the headphone jack from your pant pocket.

One thing for sure, the Shure (Oh!) SE215 CL has one of the iconic designs in the earphone world. The transparent casing in itself is an eyecatcher.

The in-ear style earpieces rest inside the ear canals comfortably offering you one of the best passive noise cancellation in the segment.

The detachable cable from the earphone offers you the option to enhance the functionality further by adding official accessories.

Sound Quality

The single dynamic driver inside each of the earpieces delivers a clean sound output with a slight emphasis on bass compared to the mids and highs.

The speaker drivers are distinctly tuned to perfection for covering the maximum frequency response spectrum so that the user can listen to a wider range of instrument notes in the music.

This wider frequency range enhances the immersive music listening experience to a whole new level.

Shure is a world-class audio equipment manufacturer. Since they concentrate only on audiophile-grade products, the emphasis on audio quality rather than features is inevitable.

The Shure SE215 CL doesn’t feature an inline microphone or remote for that matter.

More the number of obstructions between the 3.5mm jack and the earpiece more will be the signal drop.

However, we feel that the omission of an inline mic for voice calls isn’t much of a deal-breaker when you get to hear the absolute best sound.

Verdict

If you don’t mind the microphone, the Shure SE215 CL is a stunning piece of audio engineering that will let you hear studio-quality sound from any compatible device you own.

Cons

No inline microphone

FiiO is a Chinese audio equipment company that manufactures high-end DACs, amplifiers and earphones.

The FiiO FH1s is an in-ear style wired earphone model that features a dual driver setup with certified hi-res audio output.

Build Quality

The FiiO FH1s has an eye-catching design. The attractive glossy paint job is sure to turn certain heads in public.

The main distinctive feature of this wired earphone from the rest is that the earpiece nozzle is made of high-quality brass rather than aluminium.

This reduces the unwanted vibrations and reflections of sound leading to a much cleaner sound output at the user’s end.

The rounded cables have MMCX connectors at the end which can be detached from the earpiece and swapped for another cable easily.

Although the exterior earpiece is made of plastic, it has been nano-coated to resist scratches.

Sound Quality

We had already discussed an earphone above in this list that featured three drivers inside.

The FiiO FH1 consists of two – a balancing armature and a dynamic driver that produces one of the perfectly balanced highs and lows in the market.

The frequency response range of these wired earphones lies between 20Hz – 40000 Hz, which will cover almost all the possible notes that instruments make in a music file.

This earphone comes with Hi-Res audio certification which is a proof that it can be used to listen to the music the artist intended to sound like, just like what you hear in the studio.

Miscellaneous

The armature inside this earphone is the popular Knowles 33518 which delivers rich but subtle musical notes with details.

The 10mm neodymium dynamic drivers push the bass in such a way that it doesn’t bleed into the mids and highs, keeping the clarity of vocals and accompanying treble intact.

The FiiO FH1s does not come with an inline mic and remote for hands-free voice calls.

Verdict

The FiiO FH1s is an affordable wired earphone that delivers music the way the artist intended it to sound.

Cons

Average stage separation

Sound Quality

The bass levels are decent and the vocals, as well as the treble notes, are perfectly audible as well.

The stage separation between these notes is not quite what we expected it would be. However, for a casual listener, it won’t be much of an issue.

Speaking of the inline microphone, the voice call quality turns out to be perfectly fine, without any noticeable issues on either end.

Active Noise Cancellation

Now let’s talk about the star of the show – the ANC. The Audio-Technica QuitePoint as we said, comes with a dedicated ANC unit.

This ANC unit is capable of cutting the ambient noise up to 20dB which is very impressive considering the price.

When the ANC is turned on, you’ll notice the immersive music listening experience kicking in without any delay.

Outside noises won’t bother you in any way while listening to your favourite tracks. When the ANC is turned on.

Battery Life (ANC unit)

The ANC unit has a built-in rechargeable battery that will last up to 60 hours of continuous ANC usage on a single charge of an alkaline battery.

Verdict

The Audio-Technica QuietPoint is one of the very few ANC enabled wired earphones priced under Rs.4,000 in the Indian market.

Build Quality

This makes the sound reverberate inside and creates an amplified effect on its own.

Sound Quality

The sound quality is very much pleasant to the ears. The bass is pronounced and the treble matches with the rest of the audio spectrum quite beautifully.

Since this is a dual driver earphone, there are separate drivers for bass notes followed by a normal vocal and treble driver.

The only downside we could find with this earphone is that there are no ear markings anywhere to be seen.

    • Hi Arjun!

We are not quite sure about your question, however assuming you are in search of an hi-res audio certified in-ear wired earphone, we’d recommend you to check out the FiiO F9 Pro priced at just Rs.10,990. Towards the lower end of the budget spectrum, the Philips Pro6305BK and the Mi in-ear earphones are two products that come with hi-res audio certification costing at just Rs.1,499 and Rs.349 respectively.

    • Hi there!

The Soundmagic E10C and the Soundmagic E11C has almost the similar sound output quality but the one important difference between these two earphones is the impedance value. The E10C has a higher impedance of 46 Ohms which results in the drivers demanding more power to output better quality sound signals. When used with smartphones without a dedicated Audio DAC, this might lead to a slightly degraded audio experience compared to the E11C which features an impedance of just 16 Ohms. These are just technical aspects and an inexperienced listener won’t even notice the difference at all.

    • Hi Sudheer!

In terms of sound quality, The Soundmagic E11C has a bass boosted sound signature and the Philips Pro6305BK has the best tonally balanced sound output. It’s highly subjective whether to pick one over the other and it depends upon your personal music listening preference. The RHA MA390 on the other hand comes really close to both these earphones in terms of overall sound quality and has a very durable build quality.
