1. DualSense Controller

Dualsense Controller

Best PS5 controller

  • Official PS5 Controller
  • Advanced vibration feedback
  • Type C USB charging port

Revamped design

Adaptive triggers

Comfortable controller

Average battery life

The DualSense is the official controller for Sony’s new PlayStation 5 video game console.

This controller is released alongside the PS5 console and it is also available for purchase separately.

Upon launch, the DualSense controller received widespread critical acclaim and is termed as one of the best game controllers to date.

Build and Design

The DualSense controller has gone through a total revamp with its design and also the name. Until now the controllers for the PlayStation consoles were known as the Dualshock controllers.

The first change you would notice with this controller is that now it has a dual-tone colour scheme instead of the standard all-black paint job.

There isn’t much change regarding the button layout of the new DualSense controller. It features the same button layout as the previous controller.

Instead of the more colourful play buttons on the Dualshock 4 controller, Sony has opted for a more minimalist glossy design for the buttons on the DualSense.

Sony has also done away with the light bar that they introduced in their Dualshock 4 controller and introduced more subtle lighting around the touchpad.

The construction of the DualSense is still from plastic materials but it is of really good quality and feels quite premium in hand. This gaming controller is a bit larger compared to the Dualshock 4 which makes it comfortable for people with larger hands.

The handgrips of this controller have a textured design that lets you grip the controller comfortably for long hours without fatigue.

For connecting the controller to the PS5 you just have to plug in the USB Type-C cable to the controller and plug it into the console for a one time sync after that you are good to go.

The highlight of the new DualSense controller is its new adaptive triggers and haptic feedback. Unlike the previous controllers which only featured normal vibrations, the new controller has advanced technology that simulates the vibration based on different scenarios.

The adaptive triggers in the controller can be customized by the developer to increase or decrease the tension required to press the triggers. This changes the way that games are meant to be played.

In terms of tactile feedback, these buttons now feel much more responsive and smooth. Latency has also been vastly improved compared to the previous PlayStation controller.

This controller also features motion sensors that can be utilized in games for a more immersive experience.

The DualSense controller is compatible with the PS5 controller and also with the PC. This controller is fairly new and in the future firmware updates might allow the controller to be compatible with other devices as well.

Battery Life

The battery life of the DualSense unfortunately has only marginally improved. You can now expect around 7 hours of battery life on a single charge with this controller.

To juice up the battery inside, we have a Type-C port in the controller to which you connect the USB Type C cable that comes along with the controller.

If you are looking for the best gaming controller in the market then look no further. The DualSense controller by Sony is no doubt the best controller available to purchase right now albeit you do have to pay a premium of Rs.5,990 for it.

2. Microsoft Xbox Wireless Controller

Microsoft Xbox Wireless Controller

Official Xbox Series X/S Controller

  • Large and tactile buttons
  • Improved vibration feedback
  • Minimal latency

Textured design for grip

Type C USB support

Responsive buttons

Still uses AA batteries

The Microsoft Xbox wireless controller is the latest game controller by Microsoft which was launched alongside their new Xbox Series X/S gaming consoles.

You can purchase the Xbox wireless controller for Rs.5,390 in the Indian market.

Build and Design

At first glance, the Microsoft Xbox wireless controller looks almost similar to their previous Xbox One wireless controller. However, there are certain improvements in this controller that enhances the overall usability.

First off the primary build material of this new controller is plastic and there are no changes in that department. Most gaming controllers are made from plastic because it helps reduce weight.

The quality of plastic used for this controller is excellent and feels quite premium in the hand.

Compared to the Xbox One controller, this controller has a larger size albeit just by a few inches. The larger size makes the controller much nicer in your hands and it is also more rounder compared to the more edgy design of the previous controller.

The controller has a textured design on the hand grips and the triggers which makes it comfortable to grip onto. The triggers on the previous controller had a glossy finish and would slip from your fingers.

All the buttons and the triggers on the controller feel nice and responsive. There is also a new share button on the controller which is missing in the Xbox One controller.

Microsoft has also swapped the mini USB port with a new Type-C USB port since it is now the new standard. This port can be utilized for firmware updates or to use with the play and charge kit.

The performance of the new Xbox controller has improved albeit only by a small margin. The transition is not as big as the Dualshock 4 to the Dualsense controller done by PlayStation.

This controller has reduced the latency by a few milliseconds although not really something you would notice, it does come in quite handy when playing competitively.

Feedback from the buttons is also great – all the buttons feel tactile and you are bound to have a fun time playing with the controller.

Microsoft has also changed the Dpad on the controller, it now looks and feels similar to their premium Xbox Elite controller which is much appreciated.

The vibration feedback on this controller has been vastly improved. The Xbox wireless controller offers different intensities of vibration although it is not as revolutionary as the haptic feedback and adaptive triggers on the Dualsense controller.

This controller is compatible with Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PC, Android, and iOS devices. The devices are connected via Bluetooth.

Battery Life

The Microsoft Xbox wireless controller still uses AA batteries to power it up. If you are not a fan of these then you can always purchase a separate play and charge kit.

Like the Xbox One controller, this controller will last for around 40 hours on two AA batteries.

The Microsoft Xbox wireless controller is a welcome addition to the Xbox family. The uniqueness of this controller is that although it is a new controller for their new console it is still compatible with their older generation of consoles the Xbox One and Xbox One X.

Nintendo is always known for the innovation that they bring into the gaming industry and they have done the same with the Joy-cons.

The Joy-con is a different controller/gamepad compared to all the other controllers on the list, at least in terms of the diverse functionalities it possesses.

Each Joy-con can be used as an individual controller which is useful when you want to play multiplayer games with your friends.

This Joy-con features an advanced motion sensor inside. It includes an accelerometer and gyro-sensor, which allows independent left and right motion control.

The Switch Joy-con only works with the Nintendo Switch and Switch Lite devices.

Battery Life

These Joy-con controllers have a battery life of up to 20 hours, which is fantastic.

With these gamepads, you won’t have to worry about charging your controller all the time when playing your games.

Even if you were to charge the controller, it is as easy as just sliding the Joy-con to switch and it will charge it up.

The Joy-con is a revolutionary controller thanks to its advanced motion-sensing features and ease of use.

Unfortunately, there is no point buying a Joy-con unless you have a Nintendo Switch. But if you do have a Switch, it is best to have an extra pair of Joy-cons available at all times.

Until next time, have an amazing day ahead, and thanks for reading!

Buying Guide for Gaming Controller in India

The Indian market has been overloaded with a wide range of gaming controllers/gamepads in the recent few years.

This boom in gaming controllers has been due to the increasing popularity of gaming in the Indian community.

Although there is a wide range of gaming controllers to choose from, one must also know where to spend their hard-earned money.

To help you in this regard, we at Bettershark bring you a short buying guide which details a few important factors you should consider before fixing on a gaming controller.

Gaming controllers are made from plastic because it is the most inexpensive and durable material one can find around.

Although plastic is used on all gaming controllers, what one should consider is the quality of plastic. Make sure whatever controller you choose the quality of plastic used is top-notch and doesn’t feel cheap.

Gaming controllers are not only limited to traditional handheld controllers – but you can also find racing wheels and flight sticks.

Racing wheels are an exception where you can also find a metal build. It is best to go for racing wheels with metallic builds since they feel more premium but a plastic build one should also be good if it is from a trustworthy brand.

Another factor to check is whether the controller is wired or wireless. Wireless controllers let you enjoy your games from a distance while wired controllers don’t give you the freedom of moving around while gaming.

But in recent times peripheral manufacturers have started using lengthy cables on their wired controllers which let you game from a distance. Wireless game controllers are usually connected with the help of Bluetooth or a USB receiver.

Something you should look out for before purchasing a controller is its compatibility with your device of choice.

Although there are a variety of controllers available, not everything is compatible with all devices. Certain controllers only work with a selected range of devices or a single device alone.

For example, if you purchase a Nintendo Switch Joy-con or maybe a Blackshark H66L gamepad, the Switch Joy-con only works with the Nintendo Switch console and the Blackshark gamepad works only with Android devices.

Game compatibility is another thing to consider, flight sticks are compatible with only Flight and Combat simulators they don’t work with other games.

If you are choosing a controller for PC gaming make sure that the controller has support for Xinput and Dinput API. Most modern games support the Xinput interface.

When purchasing a controller for an Android or iOS mobile device, you would need an OTG connector unless Bluetooth connectivity is available.

When you choose a gaming controller, it is important to make sure that the controller fits comfortably in your hands. There is no point in purchasing a controller that won’t enhance your gaming experience.

When choosing racing wheels or flight sticks make sure that there are steady grips available for your hands.

Steering wheels with leather grips or rubber make it comfortable to grip whereas when choosing a flight stick, make sure you have a wrist rest and the joystick is ergonomically shaped and the base of the flight stick is steady. If the base is unstable you won’t have a good gaming experience.

Traditional gaming controllers have textured patterns on them or rubberized grips that let you game without your hands slipping due to sweat.

Controller size is another factor to consider. People with large hands should go for big controllers and those with smaller hands should go for more compact controllers.

The weight of the controller is another important factor to be considered. Heavier controllers feel more sturdy and durable but they are not great for long gaming sessions.

Gaming controllers come with unique features that set them apart from the rest of the crowd.
For example, the Dualshock 4 comes with a motion sensor whereas the Nacon Dualshock controllers don’t feature a motion sensor.

So before purchasing a gaming controller, you need to check out the set of features that are available in the controller.

When you choose a flight stick make sure you check whether it has features like a throttle or rudder controls. Before choosing a racing wheel make sure to see the degree of rotation that is possible. Such minute features are what truly enhance your gaming experience, so never overlook them.

Vibration in traditional controllers is another important desirable feature. Vibration motors inside controllers provide you with haptic feedback. These motors truly provide a game-changing experience.

Most wireless gaming controllers have a battery life of an average of 10 hours. Don’t worry much about battery life on gaming controllers, you can go for any of the controllers as long as they have more than 6 hours of battery life.

Charging a gaming controller takes up around 2-3 hours.

We hope the information provided on this buying guide was helpful to you.

If there is anything else you would like to know about or have any queries you can always comment down below and we will get back to you.

Q. What games can you use a flight stick for?

A. Flightstick is a joystick that is meant to be used only for simulator gaming like flight simulators and combat simulators. They do not function properly with traditional games. Few games that support a flight stick are the Ace Combat series and Microsoft Flight Simulators. Almost all flight and combat simulators work with a flight stick.

Q. Which is the best controller brand?

A. It isn’t possible to recommend a single best brand when it comes to controllers. Every controller has something unique about them. Instead of checking out the brand of various controllers, it’s better to check out what are the features they offer and the brand is not something to consider.
