1. Asus TUF Dash F15

Asus TUF Dash Gaming F15

Overall Best Pick

  • Great combination of CPU and GPU
  • Upgradable hardware
  • Smooth FHD display
BUY FROM AMAZON

Pros

Good build quality

Decent battery life

All I/O ports are available

Cons

No number pad on keyboard

Asus is one of the go-to brands for laptops – be it budget-friendly, gaming or premium models in the Indian market.

The Asus TUF Gaming F15 is equipped with the latest configuration and promises to deliver reliable performance for the asking price of Rs.79,990.

Build and Design

The lid cover of TUF Gaming F15 is made using aluminium alloy whereas the C-deck and bottom chassis are crafted from plastic.

As the name suggests, the laptop is TUF, and to justify its name Asus has put this machine under rigorous testing and it has earned military-grade certification for itself showing that it is durable and reliable for most use cases.

With the powerful hardware inside and the large 15-inch form factor, this laptop weighs 2.3Kg and it does feel heavy on the shoulder so you better be ready if you also have work on the go.

You can open the lid with a single hand most of the time and the hinge mechanism prevents the lid from wobbling unnecessarily.

The laptop sure has an aggressive design that will attract most of the gaming enthusiasts out there. The honeycomb-shaped vent design at the bottom and the rear is not just for aesthetic beauty but to improve thermal performance.

Connectivity Options

The Asus TUF Dash F15 features the following I/O ports:

  • 3 x USB 3.2 ports
  • 1 x USB-C port / Thunderbolt 4
  • 1 x HDMI port
  • RJ-45 LAN port
  • 3.5mm combo audio jack

Processor and Performance

The showrunner of the Asus TUF Dash F15 is the latest Intel i5 11th generation quad-core processor with a turbo clock frequency of 4.4GHz.

The 8GB RAM onboard clocked at 3200MHz will provide smooth multitasking performance and you can further increase the RAM up to 24GB to do more things at once.

Having this on the table will let you edit high-quality videos and run AAA title games at a minimum of 60fps.

This laptop comes with 8GB DDR4 RAM which is adequate for everyday use and multitasking. Asus also provides the RAM expansion provision up to 32GB which can come in handy anytime in the future.

The 512GB SSD will boot up the system in seconds and reduce the application loading time significantly.

Display

The Asus TUF Gaming F15 features a 15.6-inch 144Hz Full HD LED-backlit anti-glare IPS display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels.

Colour accuracy wise, this display ranks quite well for the asking price of this laptop. The brightness is adequate and the dynamic range feels respectable for indoor use.

Since this is a 144Hz refresh rate panel, the visuals and animations look silky smooth and immersive.

Thanks to the IPS panel, there is no colour shifting issue when viewing the display from an angle.

The thin bezels on the sides make this display appear bigger than its actual size and add to the media consumption experience.

Miscellaneous

The Asus TUF Gaming F15 comes pre-installed with the Windows 10 Home OS.

The full-sized RGB backlit keyboard on the deck has good quality keys with ample travel distance which offers tactile feedback.

The trackpad is a bit old-fashioned. It has left and right dedicated buttons which are responsive and many people still like this setup.

The trackpad supports multi-finger gestures. A major letdown at this price we find is the omission of a fingerprint scanner.

The bottom-firing speakers are not the best ones we’ve heard till now and we suggest you should use your favourite earphone or headphone for the surround sound experience.

Battery Life

The Asus TUF Dash F15 is powered by the 4-cell 76Wh lithium battery that is rated to last up to 5-6 hours on normal use and with gaming expect a battery life of 3 hours or less.

The 200W power brick will help to juice up the battery and if you have important rendering going on then make sure to plug in the charger.

Verdict

The Asus TUF Gaming F15 is our top pick due to its robust build quality and reliable performance.

If you don’t mind the weight, then buying this machine for the price of Rs.79,990 will be a no-brainer choice.

The MSI Bravo 15 is a gaming laptop that retails in the Indian market at just Rs.77,990.

Build and Design

The MSI Bravo 15 is one classy gaming laptop. The design language of the laptop hasn’t changed much and is similar to most of MSI’s other laptops.

This laptop is constructed wholly out of plastic materials and it has a brushed metal finish on the lid and the keyboard deck.

The hinge mechanism on the Bravo 15 is robust and it’s possible to open up the lid of the laptop with a single hand thanks to its clever weight distribution.

Talking about the keyboard, the MSI Bravo 15 features a full-sized keyboard with single red backlighting.

For cooling the internals, MSI has made sure that ample vents are available for maximum thermal efficiency since gaming laptops tend to get quite hot under heavy load.

Inside the chassis, the MSI Bravo features two fans with six heat pipes that constantly pull out hot air from the system.

Connectivity Options

The following are the connectivity ports available on the MSI Bravo 15

  • 1 x USB-C port
  • 2 x USB 3.2 ports
  • 1 x USB 2.0 port
  • 1 x HDMI port
  • RJ45
  • Headphone jack

Processor and Performance

Powering the MSI Bravo 15 is AMD’s 5th Generation Ryzen 7 5800H processor for which even the most taxing of tasks is a cakewalk.

This processor has a base clock speed of 3.2GHz and a maximum clock speed of 4.4GHz under heavy processing loads.

To assist the processor with its graphics-related tasks, we have the dedicated AMD Radeon RX5500M mobile GPU with a dedicated 4GB GDDR6 VRAM. The RX5500M is a capable GPU that is on par with Nvidia’s GTX 1660Ti although slightly weaker in terms of raw performance.

This machine comes with a single 512GB SSD which is capable of booting the laptop in just seconds while also speeding up application loading times.

If you require additional storage, MSI does provide the provision for storage expansion.

The MSI Bravo 15 features 16GB of DDR4 RAM clocked at 3200MHz which is more than enough to handle all the computing tasks, be it gaming or video editing.

Display

One of the main highlights of the MSI Bravo 15 is its display.

The Bravo 15 features a 15.6-inch full HD display that has a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels. This panel has an enhanced 144Hz refresh rate for delivering ultra-smooth visuals.

Being an IPS panel, you can also expect to get excellent colour reproduction compared to TN panels. IPS panels are also known for their wider viewing angles with no noticeable colour shifts when viewed from the sides.

The peak brightness of 220 nits is suitable for indoor use.

Battery life

The MSI Bravo 15 is powered by a 3-cell 53.5Wh lithium battery that is rated to last 5 hours on continuous use.

The high refresh rate display takes a toll on the battery, so we’d recommend you plug in the laptop while gaming for optimal performance.

Verdict

If you are in search of a performance laptop loaded with features, the MSI Bravo 15 is a good choice.

The powerful combination of the AMD GPU and CPU ensures you get a blazing fast performance like no other.

3. HP Victus

HP Victus

Feature-rich Gaming Laptop

  • Powerful CPU + GPU inside
  • Big display with FHD resolution
  • Aesthetically pleasing design
BUY FROM AMAZON

Pros

Decent build quality

Good battery backup

Genuine Windows 10 OS

Cons

Bulky

HP is one of the top contenders in the laptop market that competes against the brands such as Asus, Lenovo, and Acer.

The HP Victus is a completely new series recently launched in India and the laptop we have here has powerful internal hardware that promises to deliver a smooth computing performance.

Design and Build Quality

The design of the HP Victus reminds us of the HP Omen series laptop.

The HP Victus is made solely from plastic and the flex on the lid cover is a bit more noticeable than usual, though the build quality is decent.

The V logo in the center of the lid and the matte top surface makes this machine look aesthetically pleasing.

If you consider the hardware specifications, this laptop is a gaming machine but aesthetics tells a different story. No sign in the design shows that this machine is a gaming laptop.

The hinge is a bit loose on this one and the lid wobbles when working under a speedy fan.

Weighing at 2.48Kg, the HP Victus is said to be very heavy, and carrying it on the shoulder will be a tad bit difficult.

Thermals are where we are disappointed the most. At the bottom side of the unit, it looks like it has so much space for air intake but if you look closely you discover that it only has cuts where the fan is placed as a result CPU temperature goes up to 100 celsius even while playing games like Valorant.

We recommend using an external cooling pad for better thermal performance.

Connectivity Features:

The HP Victus features the following I/O ports:

  • 3 x USB 3.0 ports
  • 1 x USB-C port
  • 1 x HDMI port
  • RJ-45 LAN port
  • SD card reader
  • 3.5mm combo audio jack

Processor and Performance

The HP Victus comes equipped with the fifth generation AMD Ryzen 5 – 5600H hexa-core processor with a base clock speed of 3.3GHz and its turbo boost up to 4.2GHz.

The laptop has 8GB DDR4 RAM that can easily run day to day tasks and multitasking.

You can extend the RAM capacity up to 32GB for having a more buttery smooth performance.

The 4GB DDR6 Nvidia GeForce RTX 3050 is a dedicated GPU alongside the CPU that offers you a smooth gaming experience.

Speaking of the storage, there is a 512GB SSD which accelerates the system boot up process and app loading time is minimal.

Thankfully, there is another slot for SSD expansion and you can increase the storage capacity up to 4TB.

Display

The HP Victus features a 16.1-inch Full HD anti-glare IPS display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels.

This panel has thin bezels and thanks to its slightly large form factor, the media consumption and gaming experience is pleasant and immersive

This display has only a 60Hz refresh rate which is a bit disappointing but for editing purposes, it doesn’t matter much.

The colour reproduction of this panel is good and the side viewing angles are good as well, thanks to the IPS technology.

Miscellaneous

The HP Victus comes pre-installed with the Windows 10 Home OS.

The full-sized single LED backlit keyboard on the deck offers tactile feedback and you can work effectively in dark environments.

The trackpad is quite large though and it supports multi-finger gestures.

The webcam at the top chin of the display provides a good video quality when sitting in a room that has sufficient lighting conditions.

The speaker of this laptop is fine-tuned by Bang & Olufsen but audio quality is average so use headphones to experience best sound quality.

Battery Life

The HP Victus is powered by a 4-cell 70Wh lithium battery rated to last for approximately 5 hours with normal to heavy use.

The bundled 150W power adapter will recharge the battery levels from 0 – 100% in 2 to 2:30 hours.

Verdict

If you are looking for a video editing machine that looks professional and offers the same performance as a gaming machine then HP Victus is right for you.

Priced under Rs.80,000, we like the HP Victus for its performance, however the design could have been better.

Cons

Bland design

Lenovo is a Chinese brand that manufactures a wide range of consumer electronics products and their laptops are one of the most popular ones in the Indian market.

The Lenovo Ideapad Gaming 3 is a versatile laptop that can be used for gaming as well as for work. For a budget well under Rs.80,000, let’s find out what this laptop has to offer.

Design and Build Quality

The Lenovo Ideapad Gaming 3 features a unibody plastic chassis that has minor flex here and there but is durable enough and can last longer if used with care.

The lid has a matte finish and there’s a minor Lenovo branding on the side. In terms of looks, Lenovo hasn’t done much and this machine looks just like an ordinary laptop.

However, this minimal looking gaming laptop weighs 2.25Kg which is normal for a 15-inch gaming machine.

The hinge mechanism works like a charm and there’s no creaking sound while opening or closing the lid.

Lenovo has provided sufficient vents for heat dissipation to avoid any overheating issues. If you are performing intensive tasks then you will hear the fan noise sometimes.

Connectivity Features:

The Lenovo Ideapad Gaming 3 comes with the following I/O ports:

  • 2 x USB 3.2 ports
  • 1 x USB-C port
  • 1 x HDMI port
  • RJ-45 LAN port
  • 3.5mm combo audio jack

Processor and Performance

The Lenovo Ideapad Gaming 3 is equipped with the Intel i5 11th generation quad-core processor with a turbo clock speed of 4.4GHz.

This CPU is paired with the 4GB DDR6 Nvidia GeForce RTX 3050 dedicated GPU for exceptional graphics performance.

Together, they offer excellent gaming and multitasking performance. You will be able to run AAA title games without facing much lag or stutter.

The Ideapad Gaming 3 laptop has 8GB DDR4 RAM on board with an additional slot to increase the RAM up to 16GB.

Speaking of the storage, the 512GB SSD is adequate for most users. This ultra-fast SSD elevates the overall performance to a whole new level.

Display

The Lenovo Ideapad Gaming 3 features a 15.6-inch 120Hz Full HD anti-glare IPS display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels.

The bezels on the sides are thin which makes this panel look bigger and ideal for media consumption.

The colour and contrast of this display are good. Thanks to the IPS technology, it provides excellent viewing angles.

With the peak brightness of 250 nits, you will be able to see the visuals indoors.

Miscellaneous

The Lenovo Ideapad Gaming 3 comes pre-installed with the Windows 10 OS and Lenovo has said that the update for Windows 11 OS will be available soon for this machine.

The full-sized white backlit keyboard on the deck provides good typing feedback but it would be more appropriate if it had RGB backlighting.

The trackpad is fairly big so your fingers will easily reach it and it supports multi-finger gestures input correctly.

The dual stereo speakers of this laptop produce decent quality sound but we advise using proper headphones for a great gaming experience.

Battery Life

The Lenovo Ideapad Gaming 3 is powered by a 45Wh lithium battery that will provide 4-5 hours of battery life on a full charge.

The bundled 170W power brick will help juice up the battery from 0 – 100% in 2:30 hours.

Verdict

The Lenovo Ideapad Gaming 3 is a great value for money laptop for people who want a versatile machine for work and play.

For a budget under Rs.80,000, this gaming laptop offers excellent performance justifying its price tag.

Cons

Heating issues

The ROG series from Asus is specially designed for gamers and those who need a portable workstation to accomplish works like 3D design and editing.

The Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 we have listed here now comes with the next generation hardware which is the fifth generation AMD processor, a high-resolution display, and a powerful graphics card.

Design and Build Quality

Asus has nailed it in terms of design. Usually, a gaming laptop weighs more than 2Kg but the Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 weighs only 1.7Kg.

The robust aluminium chassis of this laptop makes this laptop look stealthy and premium at the same time.

Carrying this laptop will be easy compared to other gaming laptops as the machine is lightweight.

Asus has provided four heat exhaust vents, two on each side and the other two at the rear. Since this is a metal body, it does get a bit hot under peak loading conditions.

The fans inside remain silent for the most part and if you work under a ceiling fan then you are hardly even able to hear fan noise.

Connectivity Features:

The Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 comes with the following I/O ports:

  • 2 x USB-C ports
  • 2 x USB 3.2 ports
  • 1 x HDMI port
  • 3.5mm combo audio jack

Processor and Performance

The showrunner of the Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 is the AMD Ryzen 7 – 5800HS octa-core processor with a turbo clock speed of 4.3GHz.

To assist the CPU in graphic processing, there is a dedicated 4GB DDR6 Nvidia GeForce 1650 GPU.

With this combination on board, we can say that you can play almost all AAA title games on this laptop.

To run heavy games, there is an 8GB DDR4 RAM clocked at 3200MHz onboard capable of handling everyday workload and multitasking with ease.

Asus has also mentioned that you can increase the RAM capacity up to 24GB if needed.

The 512TB SSD should be sufficient for most of the users and this SSD will also contribute to the performance with its tremendous read and write speeds.

Any program you launch will open swiftly and the system will boot up in mere seconds.

Display

The display is the strong forte of this laptop.

The Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 sports a 14-inch 144Hz Full HD anti-glare IPS display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels.

You might ask what’s new here? Well, the Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 has an excellent colour reproduction and is Pantone Validated.

The panel covers 100% of the sRGB wide colour gamut meaning the visuals will have true-to-life colours and this panel is suitable for colour correction work such as video and photo editing.

The viewing angles are great without any major colour shifting, thanks to the IPS technology.

This panel is bright for indoor use but the sunlight legibility is poor but is not a deal-breaker because almost all people do laptop gaming indoors.

Miscellaneous

The Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 comes pre-installed with the Windows 10 Home OS.

The tenkeyless keyboard on the deck has a single colour LED backlighting. The key travel distance is 1.7mm and with the 20M lifetime keypress test, Asus ensures that the keyboard is ready for long-term use.

The trackpad works fine and supports multi-finger gestures like a charm.

The audio output from the dual speakers of this laptop can be termed as decent. The audio quality is nothing mind-blowing and for gaming, we strongly recommend using a pair of good earphones or headphones.

Battery Life

The Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 is powered by the 4-cell 76Wh lithium-polymer battery that is rated to last up to 5 hours on normal to heavy use.

You can use the bundled power adapter to juice up the battery and while gaming makes sure to connect the laptop to the power source for optimal performance.

The Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 will remain our favourite choice since the day it launched because of the following factors: robust build quality, premium design, swift performance, high-quality display, and decent battery life.

If you are ready to compromise an inch on the display then we recommend going for the Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 as the best choice.

Cons

Bulky

The Acer Nitro 5 is an absolute steal when it comes to budget gaming laptops. The Nitro series of laptops by Acer is known for the value that they provide despite being reasonably priced.

This is the 2021 version of the Acer Nitro 5 and it currently retails for Rs.72,000 in the Indian market.

Build and Design

The Acer Nitro 5 is an absolute steal when it comes to budget gaming laptops. The Nitro series of laptops by Acer is known for the value that they provide despite being reasonably priced.

This is the 2021 version of the Acer Nitro 5 and it currently retails for Rs.72,000 in the Indian market.

Build and Design

The new Acer Nitro 5 is identical to its predecessor in almost every way when talking about its design and build quality.

Acer has not taken any effort in changing the way that their gaming laptop looks and has instead focused on only changing its internals.

It would have been appreciated if Acer had gone with a redesign of their laptop since it has almost been a year since the launch of their previous Nitro 5 laptop.

We have the same gamer-centric build on the gaming laptop with few red accents near the exhaust vents. The build material remains the same, it is completely made out of plastic.

This laptop is 23.9mm thin and weighs 2.2kg. Compared to most laptops we can say that the Nitro 5 does feel a bit bulky due to its heavy reliance on gamer accents.

Speaking about the keyboard, it is a full-sized keyboard with its dedicated number pad and also features 4-zone RGB backlighting. The touchpad is also quite good and supports the Windows precision drivers.

Acer has adopted the same CoolerBoost technology as its predecessor to keep the CPU and GPU of this laptop cool. The dual fans on the laptop do an excellent job of preventing it from overheating.

Connectivity Options

The following are the I/O ports on the Acer Nitro 5

  • 1 x USB 3.0 Type C port
  • 2 x USB 3.0 Type-A ports
  • 1 x USB 2.0 Type-A port
  • HDMI port
  • RJ45 port
  • Audio jack

Processor and performance

The all-new Acer Nitro 5 is equipped with Intel’s latest 11th Generation mobile chips. This laptop features the Intel Core i5-11400H processor.

This new CPU features four physical cores and has a maximum turbo boost of 4.5GHz when it is under stress.

This laptop is equipped with Nvidia’s GTX 1650 GPU that will let you play AAA title games smoothly and reduce the load on CPU as well.

Everything else about this gaming laptop is pretty much great, you have 8GB RAM for multitasking needs and you also get a 512TB SSD that lets you store all your games and other files.

The SSD also helps in speeding up your boot-up times dramatically.

Display

The display on the new Acer Nitro 5 has been left pretty much unchanged.

It features a screen size of 15.6-inch along with a Full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels.

The refresh rate of the screen is extremely fluid at 144Hz and you should be able to enjoy all your games at high frame rates. Esports games would be a delight to play on this laptop.

Thanks to the IPS technology, the colour reproduction is much better than the TFT panel and viewing angles are excellent.

The bezels on the laptop are quite narrow, this lets you enjoy more detail on screen and gives you an expansive view.

Battery Life

The battery life of the new Acer Nitro 5 has been improved thanks to the less power-hungry processor and it is now rated to last for approximately 5 hours which is quite impressive.

You also get the AC adapter in the box to juice up the laptop once the battery is low.

Verdict

If you are looking for a laptop that has a powerful processor and a good GPU then the Acer Nitro 5 might be of interest to you. This laptop is one of the first to be equipped with the 11th Gen Intel chips in India and is a beast when it comes to single-threaded performance.

Pros

Full-sized purple backlit keyboard

Decent battery backup

Genuine Windows 10 OS

Cons

No Windows Hello login

Pavilion series from HP include laptops, notebooks, and gaming laptops. The one we have here is the gaming laptop that has powerful internal hardware that promises superior gaming performance.

The HP Pavilion 15 is priced at Rs.80,990 and for its asking price, we think that this machine offers better performance compared to those who come equipped with the Intel CPU.

Design and Build Quality

The chassis of the HP Pavilion 15 is made entirely from high-quality plastic. Minor body flex is noticeable on the chassis but the overall quality of construction feels durable.

The black/purple theme looks good and the chamfer cut on the bottom side of the display makes this laptop stand out from its competitors.

HP has kept the aesthetics simple and thanks to its ergonomic design, this gaming laptop fits easily inside standard sized backpacks, however, it feels a bit bulky on the shoulder at first.

This laptop has front-firing speakers located right above the keyboard deck and the audio quality is decent. While gaming we recommend using a pair of earphones for better sound quality.

The hinge mechanism is robust and it offers enough friction to operate the lid smoothly on its axis.

Connectivity Options:

The HP Pavilion 15 features the following I/O ports:

  • 1 x USB 3.1 port
  • 1 x USB 2.0 port
  • 1 x USB-C port
  • 1 x HDMI port
  • RJ-45 LAN port
  • Multi-format SD card reader
  • 3.5mm combo audio jack

Processor and Performance

The showrunner of the HP Pavilion 15 is the fourth generation AMD Ryzen 7 – 4800H octa-core processor with a base clock speed of 2.9GHz and its turbo boost frequency of 4.2GHz.

With the 16GB DDR4 RAM onboard, the gaming and multitasking experience will be delightful.

Talking about the GPU, this laptop includes a 4GB Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650 Ti which is a slightly overclocked version of the 1650 GPU.

Having this GPU right next to the CPU will offer excellent graphical performance – be it with gaming or with productivity tasks such as video editing.

This device comes with hybrid SSD+HDD storage. The primary 256SSD is where the OS is installed, resulting in quick boot up and app loading times. The secondary 1TB HDD can be utilized for storing all your files offline.

Display

The HP Pavilion 15 features a 15.6-inch Full HD WLED-backlit anti-glare IPS display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels.

Thanks to the 144Hz higher refresh rate, everything on this display looks buttery smooth.

The colour reproduction is good and while gaming you do get a vivid visual experience and the viewing angles are also great, which is of course a benefit of being an IPS panel.

To ensure you can do gaming for hours without feeling much strain on your eyes, HP has given an anti-glare coating on the top of the display.

For the indoor use case scenario the display is bright enough as it has 250 nits of brightness but the screen outdoor legibility is poor.

Miscellaneous

The HP Pavilion 15 comes pre-installed with the Windows 10 Home operating system.

The full-sized purple backlit keyboard has well laid out keys with sufficient key travel distance which offers nice feedback on keypress.

With the backlit LED turned on, you can work or game under low-lit conditions effortlessly.

The trackpad is located a bit left from the center and it supports multi-finger gestures.

Battery Life

The HP Pavilion 15 is powered by a 3-cell 52.5Wh lithium battery that provides a screen on time up to 5 hours on a single charge.

While playing high-end games at 144Hz refresh rate the battery will drain significantly faster so we recommend playing the games with the bundled charger plugged in.

Verdict

The HP Pavilion 15 is one of the best value for money gaming laptops that offers a great multicore and gaming performance for the price of Rs.80,990.

Cons

Average build quality

The G series of laptops from Dell comes as the successor to their very own Inspiron lineup but targets the performance laptops segment for both professionals and casual users.

The G5 15 SE is one of the new G series laptops from Dell priced at just Rs.77,990 in the Indian market.

Build and Design

The Dell G5 15 SE like the name suggests is one of their special edition laptops.

In terms of build quality, the device is not that great. The plastics on the laptop are glossy and feel a bit cheap, even aesthetically the laptop does look a bit dated.

The lid of the laptop gets scratched easily which is a flaw.

Compared to most laptops on the list, the G5 SE looks a bit outdated, but this is a design choice by Dell so it isn’t a big concern unless you value looks over performance.

The G5 SE has a full-size keyboard including the number pad which means that the keys on the laptop are not going to be properly centred and might need some getting used to.

The keyboard has backlit lighting functionality and the keys have a single red colour backlight which is the only choice you get.

The thermals on the laptop are pretty decent. The exhaust vents are placed in the rear to expel hot air and the air intake vents in the bottom.

The dual fans on the laptop do a great job in terms of internal heat dissipation.

Connectivity Options

The Dell G5 SE has the following I/O ports:

  • 2 x USB 2.0 ports
  • 1 x USB 3.2 port
  • 1 x USB Type C port
  • 1 x HDMI port
  • 1 x RJ45 LAN port
  • Headphone jack
  • 3 in 1 card reader

Processor and Performance

The G5 SE is powered by AMD’s Ryzen 5 4600H processor combined with the Radeon RX 5600M GPU.

The G5 15 SE uses AMD’s SmartShift technology which automatically distributes the power between the CPU and GPU so you get the most out of your laptop resulting in higher frame rates and reduced render times.

The RX 5600M has dedicated 6GB GDDR6 VRAM which should be able to run most games in high settings without even breaking a sweat.

Talking about storage, the laptop comes with a 512GB SSD but you do get expansion slots to further upgrade the storage.

The laptop has 3200MHz of 8GB DDR4 RAM which can further be upgraded up to 32GB for future-proofing.

The Killer Gigabit Ethernet featured in the Dell G5 SE ensures fast data transfer speeds that reduce lag and latency for smooth online gameplay.

The Game Shift key on the laptop, when pressed, boosts up the performance of the laptop which kicks it into overdrive and gives you the maximum performance for your gaming needs.

The G5 SE has dual speakers that provide you with a crisp and clear audio thanks to the Nahimic 3D audio tuning on the laptop.

The Alienware centre software on the laptop allows you to fine-tune your laptop and personalize it according to your gaming requirements for the best experience.

Display

The Dell G5 15 SE has a silky smooth 120Hz refresh rate. This allows you to play your favourite games at high frame rates and be immersed in the wondrous world of video games.

The display has a 1080p Full HD resolution with decent colour reproduction and contrast levels.

The anti-glare coating on the display also allows you to game for long periods without causing much strain onto your eyes.

The IPS panel gives you great viewing experience and rich colour tones, even at odd viewing angles.

The bezels on the laptop are considerably bigger than the ones we usually see in most modern gaming laptops but otherwise, it’s not something which would ruin your gaming experience.

Battery Life

The battery in the laptop is a 51WHr 3-cell lithium-ion battery which the company claims to last for up to 10 hours of screen on time.

Expect this machine to last for a maximum of 6 hours with the regular usage.

Verdict

The Dell G5 15 SE is a great gaming laptop if you can overlook some of the flaws.

It has a powerful CPU and GPU but it’s not the most aesthetically pleasing laptop. If you are ready to sacrifice looks for power then the G5 15 SE is the right choice for you.

Buying Guide for Gaming Laptop Under Rs. 80,000

Choosing a gaming laptop is no doubt a tough job and there are certain aspects which one should look into before deciding on a laptop.

So with this short yet concise buying guide, we are going to run you through a few important points which you should check up on before deciding to purchase a gaming laptop under Rs.80,000.

Build

For a budget around Rs.80,000, you can get either plastic builds, semi-metallic builds and full metallic builds for your gaming laptops.

Gaming laptops usually have plastic construction for managing the weight issues and also due to the cost concerns. But this doesn’t mean they won’t be durable in the long run.

If you are sceptical about the plastic builds you can either go for a mixture of plastic and metal or a complete metal build.

The choice of the build is your personal choice and won’t affect the performance of your laptop in any manner.

Processor

In this budget price segment, you have the option to go for either the 4th Generation of Ryzen processors by AMD or the 10th Generation of Intel processors.

You can go for either the Ryzen 7 or Ryzen 5 and the Core i7 or Core i5 processors. Do not go for the older generation of the above-mentioned processors as they have already become a bit outdated for the price.

These processors have higher clock speeds which are more than enough for gaming. For gaming, it is always advisable to go for a processor with clock speeds ranging from 3.5-4GHz.

Graphics Card

Graphics card is the most important factor of a gaming laptop.

You have the choice of picking either the GTX 1650Ti or The GTX 1650 when it comes to Nvidia and the Radeon RX 5600M for AMD.

All these graphics cards are a great choice to go for at Rs.80,000. You can expect slightly better graphics performance when it comes to the RX 5600M and GTX 1650 Ti. That does not mean the GTX 1650 is bad.

A GTX 1650 paired with a Core i7 processor should give you similar results as the overclocked Ti variant.

Ram

Gaming laptops in the Rs.80,000 range come equipped with 8GB RAM as standard while some laptops rarely feature 16GB RAM out of the box.

Most of the modern games run just fine with 8GB of RAM but to be on the safer side always make sure that the laptop you choose has a provision for hardware upgradability.

If you happen to find a gaming laptop which has 16GB of RAM then don’t hesitate to pick it, but consider the other specs in mind as well.

While checking in on the RAM, always look for the RAM frequency. At the Rs.80,000 price range, the most common frequency will be 2933MHz but you can also find RAM sticks with a frequency of up to 3200MHz.

Higher the RAM frequency, better will be the overall computing performance.

Storage

For gaming laptops at the Rs.80,000 price range, you can go for three storage options.

You can either go for a combination of both the HDD and SSD, only an HDD or only an SSD.

SSDs provide you with quicker game loading times and faster boot-up speeds as well, but they are costly. We suggest that you either go for a 512 GB SSD laptop or a hybrid combination of SSD and HDD.

If you want to go for a laptop with only an HDD then we recommend you check the spindle speed, which is the RPM of the HDD. If it is 7200rpm, the HDD will run fine with your games and apps. If it’s 5400rpm and lower, avoid that laptop unless it comes with a primary SSD storage on board.

Do make sure that the laptop has an additional slot for further storage expansion. This can be used to further storage in the future to extend the usability of the gaming laptop.

Connectivity Options

The minimum connectivity options you need on a gaming laptop include a USB port, HDMI port, RJ45, and a headphone jack.

At the Rs.80,000 price point, a Type C USB port should be the standard for any gaming laptop. If it does not have a Type C port, then we suggest that you find another laptop, as all USB connections will soon be standard with Type C.

Note that wired internet access and LAN gaming facilities require an RJ45 port.

Do not forget to check if the gaming laptop supports dual-band Wi-Fi. Dual-band Wi-Fi supports both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks, with 5GHz being much more effective in terms of wireless access and having fewer packet losses.

If you plan to game over Wi-Fi, the dual-band support for your gaming laptop is as important as the dual-band router that beams the internet towards this machine.

Keyboard

While the keyboard is an important part of a gaming laptop, gamers tend to use an external gaming keyboard because they prefer larger-size mechanical keyboards and keyboards.

It is not feasible to use mechanical keyboards on laptops at Rs.80,000, but do not worry about the keyboard, since even gamers with premium laptops tend to use an external keyboard.

Backlit functionality should be available at Rs.80,000 on all keyboards, so this should not be an issue.

Display

As anything less than 1080p is not recommended, make sure that the gaming laptop has a Full HD 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution. This should be the norm at Rs.80,000.

Gaming laptops that have refresh rates up to 144Hz are available in the market at this budget, but that does not mean you can not go for a gaming laptop that has a refresh rate of 60Hz.

You should go for a laptop that has high refresh rates if you are into competitive gaming, or else 60Hz should be suitable because most AAA games do not run at more than 60 FPS.

Battery Life

Battery life isn’t a strong forte for gaming laptops, no matter the price. The powerful internals sucks up a lot of juice so expect a battery life anywhere between 3-5 hours maximum.

We recommend you to plug in the laptop while gaming for the optimal gaming experience.

Speakers

Speakers on gaming laptops are not always the best sounding among the bunch. When it comes to gaming, it is highly recommended to use gaming headphones.

Certain games need directional audio and headphones are a must for such games for an immersive experience.

So, when it comes to selecting a gaming laptop, the sound quality of the speakers is not a priority.

With this, we come to the end of our short buying guide for gaming laptops under Rs.80,000 in the Indian market.

We have tried our best to add the most important points to cover while purchasing a gaming laptop and we hope this helps you to make a proper, learned purchase decision.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Which is the better refresh rate 120Hz or 144Hz?

A. 144Hz is no doubt the better refresh rate but in real-life use, you won’t be able to notice much of a difference so both of them appear almost the same to the naked eye in most games

But do note that to push more than 100 frames you do need a powerful graphics card and not all games run on 100fps plus except for a few competitive games like CS: GO and Valorant.

Q. Which is better: GTX 1650 Ti or RX 5600M?

A. The RX 5600M by AMD is a slightly more powerful graphics card than the 1650 Ti but most games will usually give you similar performance. So you can go for either of them and you won’t be disappointed.
