The air intake and exhaust vents on the laptop have a honeycomb design similar to what we have seen on its younger sibling the TUF A15.

These vents do a good job of keeping the laptop cool and letting the airflow circulate steadily. The dual self-cleaning cooling fans inside the laptop cool the CPU and GPU while making sure dust and debris doesn’t accumulate inside the laptop

The F15 also has two heat sinks which make sure the laptop doesn’t overheat during long gaming sessions.

The Legion 5i is one of their flagship gaming laptops priced well under Rs.80,000 in the Indian market.

Build and Design

The Legion 5i laptop has a body that is completely made of plastic materials. The plastic used in the construction does not look or feel cheap in any way.

This laptop is quite sturdy and sits firm on flat surfaces such as tabletop, thanks to the rubber pads at the bottom. You won’t have to worry about the laptop fidgeting around.

There is an ample amount of ventilation on the laptop. In the bottom, there are the air intake vents which have multiple openings to enhance the heat dissipation rate. You also get four exhaust vents with one on each side and two in the rear.

Connectivity Options

The Lenovo Legion 5i has the following I/O ports:

What it does is allowing you to select the fan speeds according to your needs. The best part about this is that it doesn’t require any setup software and can be done by simply pressing the function and Q button on the laptop.

The speakers on the Legion 5i are very loud and substantially better than most other gaming laptops in this price segment. The audio on the laptop is tuned by Harman for a relatively decent indoor listening experience.

Display

The display on the Legion 5i is a beautiful FullHD 1080p display with a smooth 120Hz refresh rate.

The higher refresh rate displays aids in smooth and jitter-free gaming experience as well as media playback.

Being an IPS panel, the viewing angles are excellent with no noticeable colour shift when viewed from the sides.

The side bezels on the Legion are narrower and deliver an edge to edge gaming experience, thanks to the impressive 84% screen to body ratio.

The bundled AC charging adapter in the box supports rapid pro fast charging feature that juices up 50% of your battery in just 30 minutes.

The Lenovo Legion 5i is a great gaming laptop for its asking price with the robust build quality and exceptional gaming performance.

The 120Hz refresh rate FHD panel is like an icing on the cake for this already feature-packed gaming laptop.

Best Versatile Laptop
  • Powerful CPU+GPU combination

Build and Design

The Ideapad Gaming 3i is a refresh or upgrade to their older Ideapad L340 gaming laptop which was a well-received product in the country.

This laptop doesn’t look like your standard gaming laptop because it doesn’t have the unnecessary gamer accents that one would typically find with gaming laptops, except the dual rear vents which are essential for heat dissipation.

The Ideapad laptop does its best to look minimal. It has a complete plastic build with a matte finish which feels surprisingly solid in hand.

The Lenovo Ideapad Gaming 3i laptop has been put through rigorous military specification tests to prove its durability and reliability.

The keyboard on this gaming laptop has blue LED backlighting which comes in handy when you are using the laptop in a dimly lit room or dark environments. The keys have a travel distance of 1.5mm which makes it handy for effortless typing as well.

Connectivity Options

The Ideapad Gaming 3i has the following I/O ports:

Headphone jack
1 x RJ45 LAN port
2 x USB 3.2 ports
1 x USB Type C port
1 x HDMI port

Speaking of graphics, we get the 4GB GDDR6 Nvidia GTX 1650 which is a great GPU for the price.

This GPU along with the beefy processor delivers excellent overall performance at an affordable price tag.

The Ideapad Gaming 3i comes with 8GB of DDR4 RAM so you can alternate between work and games at any time. You can also upgrade the RAM up to 16GB if you feel the need for more intense multitasking experience.

Storage on the Ideapad Gaming 3i isn’t much of a concern thanks to the combination of the 1TB HDD and 256GB SSD. This should give you plenty of space to download your movies and games, while the SSD will decrease your game load times and increase the bootup speed of the laptop.

The laptop has Dolby audio for a surround sound experience. The Dolby audio tuning provides you with crystal clear audio for an immersive gaming experience.

Display

The Ideapad Gaming 3i features a 15.6-inch Full HD 1080p display with a 60Hz refresh rate.

The refresh rate is not the highest in this segment but you can always connect an external display for higher refresh rates.

The IPS panel also lets you enjoy wider viewing angles with better colour reproduction. The brightness on the laptop has a peak of 250 nits which is very much sufficient for indoor usage.

The three-sided narrow bezels on the laptop also give you more screen real estate, making it a perfect media consumption device if not gaming.

Battery Life

Inside the laptop, we have a 45WHr battery and the laptop comes bundled with a 135W AC adapter.

The Ideapad Gaming 3i is rated to last up to 8 hours on a single charge but expect anywhere from 5-6 hours in real-life usage.

The ROG stands for the Republic of Gamers and the ROG Strix G is one of their gaming laptops in this series priced very competitively under Rs.80,000 in India.

Build and Design

The body of the ROG Strix G15 laptop is made of a hard polycarbonate material that has a brushed matte finish. This laptop has excellent fit and finish and feels premium in terms of look as well the in-hand feel.

The glossy ROG logo screams the gaming flair and makes this machine stand out from the rest of its competitors in style.

The hinge mechanism on the laptop is of the scissor-door type which is smooth. This along with the uniform weight distribution helps the lid of this machine to be opened with a single hand, similar to what we have seen with the Apple’s Macbook lineup.

The keyboard on this laptop doesn’t come with a dedicated number pad, but the keys themselves are well spaced and have a generous 2mm key travel distance.

The keys on this keyboard have an anti-ghost feature which lets you press multiple keys at once and all of it gets registered.

The design on the laptop is inspired by BMW with its raised ridges and sculpted surface, also around the front and side edges, we have wrapped around RGB lights which you can personalize according to your choice.

The thermals on the laptop are exceptional, you get a self-cleaning cooling system and the CPU on the laptop has liquid metal on it which is an advanced cooling method to keep the CPU temperatures in check.

Connectivity Options

The Asus ROG Strix G15 has the following I/O ports :

Processor and Performance

The ROG Strix G15 is powered by the 10th Gen Intel Core i5-10300H processor which can handle most of the tasks you give it without even breaking a sweat.

For gaming, this comes with Nvidia’s GTX 1650Ti GPU, this should be able to run all games in medium to high settings without any lags or stuttering. The graphic card has its own dedicated 4GB GDDR6 VRAM for maximum performance.

The 10th Gen i5 processor and GTX 1650Ti combined make the ROG Strix G15 one mean machine for gaming.

To store your games onboard, there is the ultra-fast 512GB NVMe SSD storage. With this you will be blazing through loading screens and booting up your laptop will just take a few seconds. If that is not enough you can further expand your storage capacity thanks to the expansion slots.

For multitasking and running applications you get 8GB DDR4 RAM as standard. With this, you won’t have to worry about your laptop slowing down and if you are up for more performance, Asus has provided the provision to expand the RAM up to a maximum of 32GB.

As mentioned earlier the ROG Strix has an advanced liquid metal cooling system. This is a method that is usually found only on the highest-end devices costing generally over a lakh.

This cooling system boosts the performance of the laptop by a huge margin compared to its competitors by eliminating the thermal throttling of the CPU, squeezing out the maximum performance from the system.

The dual speakers on the Strix G are pretty good, delivering you good quality loud sound output with decent bass and minimal distortion even at higher volume levels.

Display

The ROG Strix G15 laptop features a 15.6-inch Full HD 1080p display with a high refresh rate of 144Hz.

Battery Life

The ROG Strix G15 from Asus is powered by a 3-cell, 48WHr battery which is rated to last for up to five hours on a single charge with moderate screen brightness levels.

5. HP Omen

hp-omen
Feature-Rich Laptop
  • Excellent gaming performance
  • Up to 6 hours of battery life
  • Comfortable backlit keyboard

HP was reluctant at first to enter the gaming laptop market in India and concentrated only in the budget and premium mid-range segment. The Omen series is the revamped performance-oriented laptops from HP targeting the young audience in the country looking for a gaming laptop.

Build and Design

The HP Omen is built with a combination of metal and plastic materials. To be more specific, the chassis of this gaming laptop is made of metal while the lid is plastic.

The Omen is designed to look stealthy and will get often mistaken for a regular off the mill laptop at the first glance.

On the backplate, you get a shiny prism logo that looks pretty neat and premium.

The keyboard on this laptop does not include the number pad which means that all the keys will be properly centred for easy access.

These Keys are backlit but the laptop doesn’t have any RGB lighting, it’s just a single colour white backlighting.

The trackpad on the laptop is quite large and it supports Windows precision drivers for multi-finger hand gestures.

The thermals on the laptop are quite good. This gaming laptop from HP uses the Omen tempest cooling technology which manages to keep the temperature in check even with intense usage.

The dual internal exhaust fans, three-sided air vents and the 5-way airflow keep the laptop cool and stable at even the most taxing situations for an optimized and smooth experience.

There is a flaw in the Omen and that is the hinge, it wobbles quite a lot under the direct ceiling fan and this is not something which we expect from a top tier gaming laptop, other than that there isn’t much to complain about regarding the build quality.

The Omen weighs about 2.37kg which is quite the standard for many gaming laptops in this price range.

Connectivity Options

The HP Omen has the following I/O ports:

1 x Superspeed USB Type C port
3 x Superspeed USB Type-A ports
1 x Mini display port
1 x HDMI port
1 x RJ45 port
Headphone jack
Multi-format sd card reader

Processor and Performance

The Omen is powered by AMD’s 4th Gen Ryzen 5 4600H Hexa Core processor. To assist the processor in gaming we have Nvidia’s GTX 1650 Ti GPU for superior graphical firepower.

Gaming on the Omen shouldn’t be a problem and all the modern games including the AAA titles should run smoothly without any lags and stuttering.

There also won’t be any heating issue due to the Omen tempest cooling technology which will keep the thermals in check at all times.

This gaming laptop comes with 8GB DDR4 RAM which will take care of all the multitasking work without breaking a sweat. There is a provision to further expand the RAM up to 16GB if you feel the need to do so.

Speaking of the storage, what we have here is a super-speed 512GB NVMe SSD that will let you boot up your laptop in a flash, increase the data transfer speeds and decrease loading times in games by a huge margin.

Unfortunately, we don’t get an HDD but you can always add one if you need it. The laptop also has an empty M.2 slot that allows you to add another SSD up to 1TB.

The GTX 1650 Ti GPU from Nvidia has its own dedicated 4GB of GDDR6 RAM. The 1650Ti should be able to run most modern games at 60fps with medium to high settings without any problem.

The audio on the Omen laptop is tuned by Bang and Olufsen which we are familiar with from the Pavilion lineup laptops.

These speakers are not the loudest of the bunch but feel very crisp and clean indoors.

Display

The display on the Omen is a 15.6-inch Full HD LED panel.

Unfortunately, the refresh rate on the Omen is stuck at standard 60Hz, but if you need a higher refresh rate you can plug your laptop to another monitor or display that supports higher refresh rates or there is a more expensive Omen model that has a higher refresh rate display option.

The colours on the laptops are nice for gaming and you shouldn’t notice anything off.

The laptop has a peak brightness of 250 nits which makes indoor gaming a breeze. The IPS panel in Omen lets you enjoy your gaming sessions and movies with excellent viewing angles without any colour degradation.

The anti-glare coating on the display reduces the strain on your eyes and minimizes reflection.

The bezels on the laptop are quite minimal while the chin is a bit big because it holds the omen logo. The smaller bezels add to the overall immersive experience.

Battery Life

HP claims that their Omen laptop with its 70.9Whr battery will last up to 12.5 hours on normal usage, this is quite a tall claim for a gaming laptop.

Expect anywhere from 5-7 hours of screen on time with a single charge in real-world usage conditions.

The bundled AC adapter supports fast charging and it charges the battery up to 50% in just 45 minutes.

Verdict

The Omen laptop is great for gaming and professional use as it has a very sleek design and should blend in at the workplace or home without a problem. The laptop is a performance powerhouse, so do keep it on your radar if your budget ceiling is Rs.80,000.

6. MSI GF63 Thin

msi-gf63-thin
Slim and Lightweight Gaming Laptop
  • Decent FHD display
  • Powerful processor and GPU
  • Up to 7 hours of battery life

MSI used to be a budget, peripheral supplier. Not anymore. The company has been rapidly releasing high-end gaming as well as performance laptops into the market for a while now.

The MSI Gf63 is the latest addition to this lineup that bolsters the company’s role in the performance laptop segment.

Build and Design

The GF63 is an engineering marvel because this laptop is so slim compared to most gaming laptops we see around.

This gaming laptop from MSI is built with a combination of aluminium and plastic – the lid on the laptop and keyboard top is made of aluminium while the rest of the laptop is made of plastic.

The brushed aluminium lid makes this laptop a fingerprint and oil magnet, so you might have to clean it quite often to keep the laptop clean and spotless.

The robust hinge mechanism on this machine allows you to open up the lid with just a single hand.

The GF63 gaming laptop features a steel series keyboard with red LED backlighting and is tactile and comfortable to use. This keyboard does not have a number pad which means all the keys are going to be properly centred.

The power button on the laptop is a bit cranky, it doesn’t have a click to it. It feels like just pressing on a piece of plastic.

The thermals on the laptop are commendable for such a small size, the laptop is 10% cooler and quieter than the other laptops in its segment.

Connectivity Options

The MSI GF63 Thin has the following I/O ports:

3 x USB 3.2 Type-A ports
1 x USB 3.2 Type C port
1 x HDMI port
1 x RJ45 port
Headphone jack
SD card reader

Processor and Performance

It’s really surprising how MSI managed to fit such powerful specs on such a small and compact laptop form factor.

The GF63 laptop is powered by the 10th Gen Intel Core i5-10300H which has a base clock of 2.5GHz and turbo boost frequency of 4.5GHz.

This laptop has 8GB DDR4 RAM for your multitasking needs and unfortunately, since this is soldered on to the motherboard and there are no additional empty slots, you will have to suffice with this.

For graphics, the GF63 has the Nvidia GTX 1650 Ti Max-Q which is optimized to give you the best results with the least noise and heat. The GPU has 4GB of dedicated GDDR6 VRAM.

In terms of storage, the MSI GF63 features a fast 512GB SSD that should increase your bootup and data transfer speeds by quite a margin. Unfortunately, you can’t upgrade the storage on the laptop either but you can always use an external HDD or SSD.

The laptop has Hi-res audio support and the speakers are good and loud considering the small form factor of the laptop. However, we recommend that you use headphones while gaming for the best surround sound experience.

The Dragon centre software on the laptop lets you fine-tune the system to your needs.

Display

The MSI GF63 lacks a high refresh rate display, but don’t be disappointed as it is still a great display for gaming.

The GF63 has a Full HD 1080P display with a 60Hz refresh rate.

Being an IPS panel, this display provides you with good viewing angles while the anti-glare coating reduces eye strain and reflections.

The side bezels on the GF63 are minimal while the top bezel is a bit thick because it houses the 720p webcam.

Battery Life

The GF63 Thin has a 51WHr Lithium-polymer battery that is rated to last for about 7 hours on normal use which is quite impressive for such a thin device.

It takes around 2-2.30 hours to completely charge the battery from zero to a hundred per cent.

Verdict

If you are in search of a laptop that is slim yet powerful then look no further. The MSI GF63 performs well despite its small form factor.

The GTX 1650 Ti Max- Q GPU from Nvidia also does a great job of making sure that games on the laptop run smoothly.

Build and Design

The Dell G5 15 SE like the name suggests is one of their special edition laptops.

In terms of build quality, the device is not that great. The plastics on the laptop are glossy and feel a bit cheap, even aesthetically the laptop does look a bit dated.

The lid of the laptop gets scratched easily which is a flaw.

Compared to most laptops on the list, the G5 SE looks a bit outdated, but this is a design choice by Dell so it isn’t a big concern unless you value looks over performance.

The G5 SE has a full-size keyboard including the number pad which means that the keys on the laptop are not going to be properly centred and might need some getting used to.

The keyboard has backlit lighting functionality and the keys have a single red colour backlight which is the only choice you get.

The thermals on the laptop are pretty decent. The exhaust vents are placed in the rear to expel hot air and the air intake vents in the bottom.

The dual fans on the laptop do a great job in terms of internal heat dissipation.

Connectivity Options

The Dell G5 SE has the following I/O ports:

2 x USB 2.0 ports
1 x USB 3.2 port
1 x USB Type C port
1 x HDMI port
1 x RJ45 LAN port
Headphone jack
3 in 1 card reader

Processor and Performance

The G5 SE is powered by AMD’s Ryzen 5 4600H processor combined with the Radeon RX 5600M GPU.

The G5 15 SE uses AMD’s SmartShift technology which automatically distributes the power between the CPU and GPU so you get the most out of your laptop resulting in higher frame rates and reduced render times.

The RX 5600M has dedicated 6GB GDDR6 VRAM which should be able to run most games in high settings without even breaking a sweat.

Talking about storage, the laptop comes with a 512GB SSD but you do get expansion slots to further upgrade the storage.

The laptop has 3200MHz of 8GB DDR4 RAM which can further be upgraded up to 32GB for future-proofing.

The KIller Gigabit Ethernet featured in the Dell G5 SE ensures fast data transfer speeds that reduce lag and latency for smooth online gameplay.

The Game Shift key on the laptop, when pressed, boosts up the performance of the laptop which kicks it into overdrive and gives you the maximum performance for your gaming needs.

The G5 SE has dual speakers that provide you with a crisp and clear audio thanks to the Nahimic 3D audio tuning on the laptop.

The Alienware centre software on the laptop allows you to fine-tune your laptop and personalize it according to your gaming requirements for the best experience.

Display

The Dell G5 15 SE has a silky smooth 120Hz refresh rate. This allows you to play your favourite games at high frame rates and be immersed in the wondrous world of video games.

The display has a 1080p Full HD resolution with decent colour reproduction and contrast levels.

The anti-glare coating on the display also allows you to game for long periods without causing much strain onto your eyes.

The IPS panel gives you great viewing experience and rich colour tones, even at odd viewing angles.

The bezels on the laptop are considerably bigger than the ones we usually see in most modern gaming laptops but otherwise, it’s not something which would ruin your gaming experience.

Battery Life

The battery in the laptop is a 51WHr 3-cell lithium-ion battery which the company claims to last for up to 10 hours of screen on time.

Expect this machine to last for a maximum of 6 hours with the regular usage.

Verdict

The Dell G5 15 SE is a great gaming laptop if you can overlook some of the flaws.

It has a powerful CPU and GPU but it’s not the most aesthetically pleasing laptop. If you are ready to sacrifice looks for power then the G5 15 SE is the right choice for you.
