1. HP Omen

HP Omen

Overall Best Pick

  • Excellent gaming performance
  • Up to 6 hours of battery life
  • Comfortable backlit keyboard

Stealthy design

Rich connectivity options

Hardware upgradability options

Display wobbles a bit under the ceiling fan

HP was reluctant at first to enter the gaming laptop market in India and concentrated only in the budget and premium mid-range segment.

The Omen series is the revamped performance-oriented laptop from HP targeting the young audience in the country looking for a gaming laptop.

Build and Design

The HP Omen is built with a combination of metal and plastic materials. To be more specific, the chassis of this gaming laptop is made of metal while the lid is plastic.

The Omen is designed to look stealthy and will get often mistaken for a regular off the mill laptop at the first glance.

On the backplate, you get a shiny prism logo that looks pretty neat and premium.

The keyboard on this laptop does not include the number pad which means that all the keys will be properly centred for easy access.

These Keys are backlit but the laptop doesn’t have any RGB lighting, it’s just a single colour white backlighting.

The trackpad on the laptop is quite large and it supports Windows precision drivers for multi-finger hand gestures.

The thermals on the laptop are quite good. This gaming laptop from HP uses the Omen tempest cooling technology which manages to keep the temperature in check even with intense usage.

The dual internal exhaust fans, three-sided air vents and the 5-way airflow keep the laptop cool and stable at even the most taxing situations for an optimized and smooth experience.

There is a flaw in the Omen and that is the hinge, it wobbles quite a lot under the direct ceiling fan and this is not something which we expect from a top tier gaming laptop, other than that there isn’t much to complain about regarding the build quality.

The Omen weighs about 2.37kg which is quite the standard for many gaming laptops in this price range.

Connectivity Options

The HP Omen has the following I/O ports:

  • 1 x Superspeed USB Type C port
  • 3 x Superspeed USB Type-A ports
  • 1 x Mini display port
  • 1 x HDMI port
  • 1 x RJ45 port
  •  Headphone jack
  • Multi-format sd card reader

Processor and Performance

The Omen is powered by AMD’s 4th Gen Ryzen 5 4600H Hexa Core processor. To assist the processor in gaming we have Nvidia’s GTX 1660 Ti GPU for superior graphical firepower.

Gaming on the Omen shouldn’t be a problem and all the modern games including the AAA titles should run smoothly without any lags and stuttering.

There also won’t be any heating issue due to the Omen tempest cooling technology which will keep the thermals in check at all times.

This gaming laptop comes with 8GB DDR4 RAM which will take care of all the multitasking work without breaking a sweat. There is a provision to further expand the RAM up to 16GB if you feel the need to do so.

Speaking of the storage, what we have here is a super-speed 512GB NVMe SSD that will let you boot up your laptop in a flash, increase the data transfer speeds and decrease loading times in games by a huge margin.

Unfortunately, we don’t get an HDD but you can always add one if you need it. The laptop also has an empty M.2 slot that allows you to add another SSD up to 1TB.

The GTX 1660 Ti GPU from Nvidia has its own dedicated 6GB of GDDR6 RAM. The 1650Ti should be able to run most modern games at 60fps with medium to high settings without any problem.

The audio on the Omen laptop is tuned by Bang and Olufsen which we are familiar with from the Pavilion lineup laptops.

These speakers are not the loudest of the bunch but feel very crisp and clean indoors.

The display on the Omen is a 15.6-inch Full HD LED panel.

Unfortunately, the refresh rate on the Omen is stuck at standard 60Hz, but if you need a higher refresh rate you can plug your laptop into another monitor or display that supports higher refresh rates or there is a more expensive Omen model that has a higher refresh rate display option.

The colours on the laptops are nice for gaming and you shouldn’t notice anything off.

The laptop has a peak brightness of 250 nits which makes indoor gaming a breeze. The IPS panel in Omen lets you enjoy your gaming sessions and movies with excellent viewing angles without any colour degradation.

The anti-glare coating on the display reduces the strain on your eyes and minimizes reflection.

The bezels on the laptop are quite minimal while the chin is a bit big because it holds the omen logo. The smaller bezels add to the overall immersive experience.

Battery Life

HP claims that their Omen laptop with its 70.9Whr battery will last up to 12.5 hours on normal usage, this is quite a tall claim for a gaming laptop.

Expect anywhere from 5-7 hours of screen on time with a single charge in real-world usage conditions.

The bundled AC adapter supports fast charging and charges the battery up to 50% in just 45 minutes.

The Omen laptop is great for gaming and professional use as it has a very sleek design and should blend in at the workplace or home without a problem. The laptop is a performance powerhouse, so do keep it on your radar if your budget ceiling is Rs.80,000.

2. Acer Nitro 5 (2021)

Acer Nitro 5 (2021)

Runner-up Pick

  • 11th Gen Intel CPU
  • Fast 1TB SSD storage
  • Full HD 144Hz display

Full-sized keyboard

Up to 8.5 hours battery life

Windows precision touchpad

GPU is weak for the CPU

TFT panel

The Acer Nitro 5 is an absolute steal when it comes to budget gaming laptops. The Nitro series of laptops by Acer is known for the value that they provide despite being reasonably priced.

This is the 2021 version of the Acer Nitro 5 and it currently retails for Rs.84,990 in the Indian market.

Build and Design

The new Acer Nitro 5 is identical to its predecessor in almost every way when talking about its design and build quality.

Acer has not taken any effort in changing the way that their gaming laptop looks and has instead focused on only changing its internals.

It would have been appreciated if Acer had gone with a redesign of their laptop since it has almost been a year since the launch of their previous Nitro 5 laptop.

We have the same gamer-centric build on the gaming laptop with few red accents near the exhaust vents. The build material remains the same, it is completely made out of plastic.

This laptop is 23.9mm thin and weighs 2.2kg. Compared to most laptops we can say that the Nitro 5 does feel a bit bulky due to its heavy reliance on gamer accents.

Speaking about the keyboard, it is a full-sized keyboard with its dedicated number pad and also features 4-zone RGB backlighting. The touchpad is also quite good and supports the Windows precision drivers.

Acer has adopted the same CoolerBoost technology as its predecessor to keep the CPU and GPU of this laptop cool. The dual fans on the laptop do an excellent job of preventing it from overheating.

Connectivity options

The following are the I/O ports on the Acer Nitro 5

  • 1 x USB 3.0 Type C port
  • 2 x USB 3.0 Type-A ports
  • 1 x USB 2.0 Type-A port
  • HDMI port
  • RJ45 port
  • Audio jack

Processor and Performance

The all-new Acer Nitro 5 is equipped with Intel’s latest 11th Generation mobile chips. This laptop features the top-of-the-line Intel Core i7-11370H processor which provides you with the fastest single-threaded laptop performance.

This new CPU features four physical cores and has a maximum turbo boost of 4.8GHz when it is under stress.

The GPU on the laptop however is frankly quite disappointing considering the powerful processor. This laptop is equipped with Nvidia’s GTX 1650 GPU which is not a bad graphics card but it is quite underpowered when paired with the 11th Gen Intel Core i7 processor.

Hence if you are looking for a hardcore gaming machine we cannot suggest this to you.

Everything else about this gaming laptop is pretty much great, you have 8GB RAM for multitasking needs and you also get a whopping 1TB SSD that lets you store all your games and other files.

The SSD also helps in speeding up your boot-up times dramatically.

The display on the new Acer Nitro 5 has been left pretty much unchanged.

It features a screen size of 15.6-inch along with a Full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels.

The refresh rate of the screen is extremely fluid at 144Hz and you should be able to enjoy all your games at high frame rates. Esports games would be a delight to play on this laptop.

This is still an LED-backlit TFT panel which is quite disappointing. It is high time Acer moved to an IPS panel since it provides better colour accuracy and wider viewing angles.

The bezels on the laptop are quite narrow, this lets you enjoy more detail on screen and gives you an expansive view.

Battery Life

The battery life of the new Acer Nitro 5 has been improved thanks to the less power-hungry processor and it is now rated to last for approximately 8.5 hours which is quite impressive.

You also get the AC adapter in the box to juice up the laptop once the battery is low.

If you are looking for a laptop that has a powerful processor and are not much bothered about the GPU aspect then the Acer Nitro 5 might be of interest to you. This laptop is one of the first to be equipped with the 11th Gen Intel chips in India and is a beast when it comes to single-threaded performance.

Asus needs no introduction when talking about laptops, the company is quite popular for its high-performance devices. The ROG Series is one of Asus’s gaming lineups which includes laptops, smartphones, and computer peripherals.

The Asus ROG Strix G15 is an entry-level gaming laptop that currently retails for Rs.75,990 in the Indian market.

Build and Design

The Asus ROG Strix G15 is a laptop with an elegant design that is meant to grab your attention with its precision-crafted design and RGB lighting.

In terms of the build quality, this gaming laptop is made completely out of polycarbonate material and it does not feel cheap in any way.

The lid of the gaming laptop has a brushed metal finish despite being made out of plastic. This gives it an exquisite look.

Throughout the body of the laptop, we find contoured lines for aesthetic purposes. These lines give you a feeling that the laptop has been designed with utmost care and does not feel like a mass-produced device.

As mentioned before RGB lighting is present on this laptop and it plays a key role in making it look beautiful. This laptop has an RGB lightbar that provides underside illumination. The keyboard of the laptop also supports RGB lighting.

The trackpad of the laptop is also decently sized and features two physical buttons for the left and right mouse buttons.

The thermal performance of this laptop is excellent thanks to ample ventilation present. There are exhaust vents on the sides, bottom, and rear of the laptop.

Connectivity Options

The Asus ROG Strix G15 features the following I/O ports:

  • 1x Type C USB 3.2 port
  • 3x Type-A USB 3.2 ports
  • HDMI 2.0
  • RJ45
  • Audio jack

Processor and Performance

The Asus ROG Strix G15 is powered by yesteryear’s 10th Gen Intel Core i5-10300H processor. This mid-range mobile processor is still quite capable when it comes to gaming.

This processor has a base clock speed of 2.5GHz with a boosted clock speed of 4.5GHz when under heavy load.

In the graphics department, this gaming laptop is equipped with the tried and tested GTX 1650 Ti GPU which is superior to the standard 1650. This GPU is excellent for esports gaming and can also run some new titles at medium-high settings.

The GPU has 4GB of GDDR6 VRAM that assists in rendering high-resolution textures.

Furthermore, the storage on this laptop is not a concern thanks to the 1TB SSD inside the laptop. The SSD lets you reduce the loading times in games and also helps in faster data transfer.

For multitasking needs the laptop sports 8GB DDR4 RAM that should provide you with a smooth browsing experience.

The ROG Strix G15 laptop features a 15.6-inch Full HD 1080p display with a refresh rate of 60Hz.

Unfortunately, you do not get a high refresh rate on this particular model of the Strix G15. However, if you are willing to shell out some extra cash then you can opt for a variant with a 144Hz refresh rate.

The Strix G15 has a wide viewing angle of 170 degrees with no noticeable colour shifts, thanks to the IPS technology on board.

This display panel comes with a peak brightness of 250 nits, making it one of the best indoor displays in its price segment.

The anti-glare coating makes sure that strain on your eyes is reduced by minimising the light reflecting off the display.

The super-narrow bezels on the laptop give you an expansive view so you can enjoy more content on screen.

Battery Life

The battery life of a gaming laptop has always been pretty average. This is also the case with the Asus ROG Strix G15. The gaming laptop has a battery life of approximately 5 hours which is pretty much standard.

To juice up the battery bundled alongside the laptop is its AC adapter.

The Asus ROG Strix G15 is still quite the capable gaming laptop in 2021. The gaming laptop is suitable for those who don’t mind not having the latest GPU on their laptop and content with the performance of the GTX 1650 Ti.

4. HP Pavilion 15

HP Pavilion 15

  • Powerful combination of CPU + GPU
  • Dual storage support – SSD and HDD
  • High refresh rate FHD display

Pavilion series from HP include laptops, notebooks, and gaming laptops. The one we have here is the gaming laptop that has powerful internal hardware that promises superior gaming performance.

The HP Pavilion 15 is priced at Rs.80,990 and for its asking price, we think that this machine offers better performance compared to those who come equipped with the Intel CPU.

Design and Build Quality

The chassis of the HP Pavilion 15 is made entirely from high-quality plastic. Minor body flex is noticeable on the chassis but the overall quality of construction feels durable.

The black/purple theme looks good and the chamfer cut on the bottom side of the display makes this laptop stand out from its competitors.

HP has kept the aesthetics simple and thanks to its ergonomic design, this gaming laptop fits easily inside standard sized backpacks, however, it feels a bit bulky on the shoulder at first.

This laptop has front-firing speakers located right above the keyboard deck and the audio quality is decent. While gaming we recommend using a pair of earphones for better sound quality.

The hinge mechanism is robust and it offers enough friction to operate the lid smoothly on its axis.

Connectivity Options:

The HP Pavilion 15 features the following I/O ports:

  • 1 x USB 3.1 port
  • 1 x USB 2.0 port
  • 1 x USB-C port
  • 1 x HDMI port
  • RJ-45 LAN port
  • Multi-format SD card reader
  • 3.5mm combo audio jack

Processor and Performance

The showrunner of the HP Pavilion 15 is the fourth generation AMD Ryzen 7 – 4800H octa-core processor with a base clock speed of 2.9GHz and its turbo boost frequency of 4.2GHz.

With the 16GB DDR4 RAM onboard, the gaming and multitasking experience will be delightful.

Talking about the GPU, this laptop includes a 4GB Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650 Ti which is a slightly overclocked version of the 1650 GPU.

Having this GPU right next to the CPU will offer excellent graphical performance – be it with gaming or with productivity tasks such as video editing.

This device comes with hybrid SSD+HDD storage. The primary 256SSD is where the OS is installed, resulting in quick boot up and app loading times. The secondary 1TB HDD can be utilized for storing all your files offline.

The HP Pavilion 15 features a 15.6-inch Full HD WLED-backlit anti-glare IPS display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels.

Thanks to the 144Hz higher refresh rate, everything on this display looks buttery smooth.

The colour reproduction is good and while gaming you do get a vivid visual experience and the viewing angles are also great, which is of course a benefit of being an IPS panel.

To ensure you can do gaming for hours without feeling much strain on your eyes, HP has given an anti-glare coating on the top of the display.

For the indoor use case scenario the display is bright enough as it has 250 nits of brightness but the screen outdoor legibility is poor.

The HP Pavilion 15 comes pre-installed with the Windows 10 Home operating system.

The full-sized purple backlit keyboard has well laid out keys with sufficient key travel distance which offers nice feedback on keypress.

With the backlit LED turned on, you can work or game under low-lit conditions effortlessly.

The trackpad is located a bit left from the center and it supports multi-finger gestures.

Battery Life

The HP Pavilion 15 is powered by a 3-cell 52.5Wh lithium battery that provides a screen on time up to 5 hours on a single charge.

While playing high-end games at 144Hz refresh rate the battery will drain significantly faster so we recommend playing the games with the bundled charger plugged in.

The HP Pavilion 15 is one of the best value for money gaming laptops that offers a great multicore and gaming performance for the price of Rs.80,990.

  • Dolby audio certified speakers
  • Up to 6 hours of battery life

Minimal, industrial design

The Ideapad series from Lenovo primarily meant for students and casual users in the past.

Now the company is launching the slightly higher priced variants of the same laptops with gaming ready internals and the Ideapad Gaming 3i laptop is one such offering that is priced under Rs.80,000.

Build and Design

The Ideapad Gaming 3i is a refresh or upgrade to their older Ideapad L340 gaming laptop which was a well-received product in the country.

This laptop doesn’t look like your standard gaming laptop because it doesn’t have the unnecessary gamer accents that one would typically find with gaming laptops, except the dual rear vents which are essential for heat dissipation.

The Ideapad laptop does its best to look minimal. It has a complete plastic build with a matte finish which feels surprisingly solid in hand.

The Lenovo Ideapad Gaming 3i laptop has been put through rigorous military specification tests to prove its durability and reliability.

The keyboard on this gaming laptop has blue LED backlighting which comes in handy when you are using the laptop in a dimly lit room or dark environments. The keys have a travel distance of 1.5mm which makes it handy for effortless typing as well.

The trackpad on the Ideapad is a large one and has Windows precision drivers installed for multi-finger gestures.

To keep the laptop cool inside while running under heavy loads, there is a heat sink that keeps the temperatures of the CPU and GPU in check.

The dual-action exhaust fans and the vents help in an effective heat dissipation without choking up the processor with thermal throttling.

Connectivity Options

The Ideapad Gaming 3i has the following I/O ports:

  • Headphone jack
  • 1 x RJ45 LAN port
  • 2 x USB 3.2 ports
  • 1 x USB Type C port
  • 1 x HDMI port

Processor And Performance

The Ideapad Gaming 3i is powered by Intel’s latest 10th generation Core i7-10750H processor. This is a really powerful processor, with a base clock speed of 2.6GHz and a turbo boost frequency of 5GHz.

Resource intensive jobs such as multitasking and graphics-heavy gaming titles for this processor should be a piece of cake.

Speaking of graphics, we get the 4GB GDDR6 Nvidia GTX 1650 which is a great GPU for the price.

This GPU along with the beefy processor delivers excellent overall performance at an affordable price tag.

The Ideapad Gaming 3i comes with 8GB of DDR4 RAM so you can alternate between work and games at any time. You can also upgrade the RAM up to 16GB if you feel the need for a more intense multitasking experience.

Storage on the Ideapad Gaming 3i isn’t much of a concern thanks to the combination of the 1TB HDD and 256GB SSD. This should give you plenty of space to download your movies and games, while the SSD will decrease your game load times and increase the bootup speed of the laptop.

The laptop has Dolby audio for a surround sound experience. The Dolby audio tuning provides you with crystal clear audio for an immersive gaming experience.

The Ideapad Gaming 3i features a 15.6-inch Full HD 1080p display with a 60Hz refresh rate.

The refresh rate is not the highest in this segment but you can always connect an external display for higher refresh rates.

The IPS panel also lets you enjoy wider viewing angles with better colour reproduction. The brightness on the laptop has a peak of 250 nits which is very much sufficient for indoor usage.

The three-sided narrow bezels on the laptop also give you more screen real estate, making it a perfect media consumption device if not gaming.

Battery Life

Inside the laptop, we have a 45WHr battery and the laptop comes bundled with a 135W AC adapter.

The Ideapad Gaming 3i is rated to last up to 8 hours on a single charge but expect anywhere from 5-6 hours in real-life usage.

The bundled AC charging brick supports fast charging and juices up the battery completely within 2 hours.

The Ideapad Gaming 3i is a great laptop if you are in search of something that looks professional and is powerful at the same time. This is a great laptop for professionals and students alike.

This processor has a base clock speed of 3GHz and a maximum clock speed of 4GHz under heavy processing loads.

To assist the processor with its graphics-related tasks, we have the dedicated AMD Radeon RX5500M mobile GPU with a dedicated 4GB GDDR6 VRAM. The RX5500M is a capable GPU that is on par with Nvidia’s GTX 1660Ti although slightly weaker in terms of raw performance.

This machine comes with a single 512GB SSD which is capable of booting the laptop in just seconds while also speeding up application loading times.

7. Dell G5 15 SE

Budget Gaming Laptop

  • Powerful Radeon GPU
  • Decent FHD display
  • Rich connectivity options

Full-size keyboard

Up to 6 hours of battery life

AMD Shift technology for improved performance

Average build quality

The G series of laptops from Dell comes as the successor to their very own Inspiron lineup but targets the performance laptops segment for both professionals and casual users.

The G5 15 SE is one of the new G series laptops from Dell priced at just Rs.77,990 in the Indian market.

Build and Design

The Dell G5 15 SE like the name suggests is one of their special edition laptops.

In terms of build quality, the device is not that great. The plastics on the laptop are glossy and feel a bit cheap, even aesthetically the laptop does look a bit dated.

The lid of the laptop gets scratched easily which is a flaw.

Compared to most laptops on the list, the G5 SE looks a bit outdated, but this is a design choice by Dell so it isn’t a big concern unless you value looks over performance.

The G5 SE has a full-size keyboard including the number pad which means that the keys on the laptop are not going to be properly centred and might need some getting used to.

The keyboard has backlit lighting functionality and the keys have a single red colour backlight which is the only choice you get.

The thermals on the laptop are pretty decent. The exhaust vents are placed in the rear to expel hot air and the air intake vents in the bottom.

The dual fans on the laptop do a great job in terms of internal heat dissipation.

Connectivity Options

The Dell G5 SE has the following I/O ports:

  • 2 x USB 2.0 ports
  • 1 x USB 3.2 port
  • 1 x USB Type C port
  • 1 x HDMI port
  • 1 x RJ45 LAN port
  • Headphone jack
  • 3 in 1 card reader

Processor and Performance

The G5 SE is powered by AMD’s Ryzen 5 4600H processor combined with the Radeon RX 5600M GPU.

The G5 15 SE uses AMD’s SmartShift technology which automatically distributes the power between the CPU and GPU so you get the most out of your laptop resulting in higher frame rates and reduced render times.

The RX 5600M has dedicated 6GB GDDR6 VRAM which should be able to run most games in high settings without even breaking a sweat.

Talking about storage, the laptop comes with a 512GB SSD but you do get expansion slots to further upgrade the storage.

The laptop has 3200MHz of 8GB DDR4 RAM which can further be upgraded up to 32GB for future-proofing.

The Killer Gigabit Ethernet featured in the Dell G5 SE ensures fast data transfer speeds that reduce lag and latency for smooth online gameplay.

The Game Shift key on the laptop, when pressed, boosts up the performance of the laptop which kicks it into overdrive and gives you the maximum performance for your gaming needs.

The G5 SE has dual speakers that provide you with a crisp and clear audio thanks to the Nahimic 3D audio tuning on the laptop.

The Alienware centre software on the laptop allows you to fine-tune your laptop and personalize it according to your gaming requirements for the best experience.

The Dell G5 15 SE has a silky smooth 120Hz refresh rate. This allows you to play your favourite games at high frame rates and be immersed in the wondrous world of video games.

The display has a 1080p Full HD resolution with decent colour reproduction and contrast levels.

The anti-glare coating on the display also allows you to game for long periods without causing much strain onto your eyes.

The IPS panel gives you great viewing experience and rich colour tones, even at odd viewing angles.

This laptop has a 19.9mm profile which is 3mm thinner than its predecessor. This gives it a more toned-down appearance.

It is possible to open up the lid with a single hand but the lid has a good amount of flex and might make it feel cheaper than some of its competitors.

The keyboard on this laptop is great. It has a 4-Zone RGB backlit keyboard and the keys have great travel which ensures an excellent typing experience. The touchpad is similar to the predecessor, it has a big size and also supports Windows precision drivers.

Below the laptop, you will find the cutout for the speakers and you can also see the air vents which suck in cool air for keeping the laptop cool and then hot air is expelled from the exhaust vents in the rear.

Processor and performance

Speaking about the internals of this gaming laptop, it is available with the 10th Gen Comet Lake-H processors by Intel. Precisely the Intel Core i5-10300H has a boosted clock speed of 4.5GHz under heavy processing load.

The GPU included with this laptop is the Nvidia GTX 1650 Ti which is a bumped-up version of the standard GTX 1650. It features 4GB of GDDR6 VRAM which helps in loading high-res textures in games.

This graphics card should perform well when running games that are less demanding like Valorant and CS: GO while some taxing titles like Cyberpunk should provide you with a playable frame rate at medium settings.

The RAM on this laptop is just 8GB which should suffice for most games however you also have the provision to upgrade at a future date.

To save all your files this laptop has a 512GB SSD. If needed you can also add an HDD or always use an external one.

Buying Guide for Gaming Laptop Under Rs. 80,000

Choosing a gaming laptop is no doubt a tough job and there are certain aspects which one should look into before deciding on a laptop.

So with this short yet concise buying guide, we are going to run you through a few important points which you should check up on before deciding to purchase a gaming laptop under Rs.80,000.

For a budget around Rs.80,000, you can get either plastic builds, semi-metallic builds and full metallic builds for your gaming laptops.

Gaming laptops usually have plastic construction for managing the weight issues and also due to the cost concerns. But this doesn’t mean they won’t be durable in the long run.

If you are sceptical about the plastic builds you can either go for a mixture of plastic and metal or a complete metal build.

The choice of the build is your personal choice and won’t affect the performance of your laptop in any manner.

In this budget price segment, you have the option to go for either the 4th Generation of Ryzen processors by AMD or the 10th Generation of Intel processors.

You can go for either the Ryzen 7 or Ryzen 5 and the Core i7 or Core i5 processors. Do not go for the older generation of the above-mentioned processors as they have already become a bit outdated for the price.

These processors have higher clock speeds which are more than enough for gaming. For gaming, it is always advisable to go for a processor with clock speeds ranging from 3.5-4GHz.

Graphics Card

Graphics card is the most important factor of a gaming laptop.

You have the choice of picking either the GTX 1650Ti or The GTX 1650 when it comes to Nvidia and the Radeon RX 5600M for AMD.

All these graphics cards are a great choice to go for at Rs.80,000. You can expect slightly better graphics performance when it comes to the RX 5600M and GTX 1650 Ti. That does not mean the GTX 1650 is bad.

A GTX 1650 paired with a Core i7 processor should give you similar results as the overclocked Ti variant.

Gaming laptops in the Rs.80,000 range come equipped with 8GB RAM as standard while some laptops rarely feature 16GB RAM out of the box.

Most of the modern games run just fine with 8GB of RAM but to be on the safer side always make sure that the laptop you choose has a provision for hardware upgradability.

If you happen to find a gaming laptop which has 16GB of RAM then don’t hesitate to pick it, but consider the other specs in mind as well.

While checking in on the RAM, always look for the RAM frequency. At the Rs.80,000 price range, the most common frequency will be 2933MHz but you can also find RAM sticks with a frequency of up to 3200MHz.

Higher the RAM frequency, better will be the overall computing performance.

For gaming laptops at the Rs.80,000 price range, you can go for three storage options.

You can either go for a combination of both the HDD and SSD, only an HDD or only an SSD.

SSDs provide you with quicker game loading times and faster boot-up speeds as well, but they are costly. We suggest that you either go for a 512 GB SSD laptop or a hybrid combination of SSD and HDD.

If you want to go for a laptop with only an HDD then we recommend you check the spindle speed, which is the RPM of the HDD. If it is 7200rpm, the HDD will run fine with your games and apps. If it’s 5400rpm and lower, avoid that laptop unless it comes with a primary SSD storage on board.

Do make sure that the laptop has an additional slot for further storage expansion. This can be used to further storage in the future to extend the usability of the gaming laptop.

Connectivity Options

The minimum connectivity options you need on a gaming laptop include a USB port, HDMI port, RJ45, and a headphone jack.

At the Rs.80,000 price point, a Type C USB port should be the standard for any gaming laptop. If it does not have a Type C port, then we suggest that you find another laptop, as all USB connections will soon be standard with Type C.

Note that wired internet access and LAN gaming facilities require an RJ45 port.

Do not forget to check if the gaming laptop supports dual-band Wi-Fi. Dual-band Wi-Fi supports both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks, with 5GHz being much more effective in terms of wireless access and having fewer packet losses.

If you plan to game over Wi-Fi, the dual-band support for your gaming laptop is as important as the dual-band router that beams the internet towards this machine.

While the keyboard is an important part of a gaming laptop, gamers tend to use an external gaming keyboard because they prefer larger-size mechanical keyboards and keyboards.

It is not feasible to use mechanical keyboards on laptops at Rs.80,000, but do not worry about the keyboard, since even gamers with premium laptops tend to use an external keyboard.

Backlit functionality should be available at Rs.80,000 on all keyboards, so this should not be an issue.

As anything less than 1080p is not recommended, make sure that the gaming laptop has a Full HD 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution. This should be the norm at Rs.80,000.

Gaming laptops that have refresh rates up to 144Hz are available in the market at this budget, but that does not mean you can not go for a gaming laptop that has a refresh rate of 60Hz.

You should go for a laptop that has high refresh rates if you are into competitive gaming, or else 60Hz should be suitable because most AAA games do not run at more than 60 FPS.

Battery Life

Battery life isn’t a strong forte for gaming laptops, no matter the price. The powerful internals sucks up a lot of juice so expect a battery life anywhere between 3-5 hours maximum.

We recommend you to plug in the laptop while gaming for the optimal gaming experience.

Speakers on gaming laptops are not always the best sounding among the bunch. When it comes to gaming, it is highly recommended to use gaming headphones.

Certain games need directional audio and headphones are a must for such games for an immersive experience.

So, when it comes to selecting a gaming laptop, the sound quality of the speakers is not a priority.

With this, we come to the end of our short buying guide for gaming laptops under Rs.80,000 in the Indian market.

We have tried our best to add the most important points to cover while purchasing a gaming laptop and we hope this helps you to make a proper, learned purchase decision.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Which is the better refresh rate 120Hz or 144Hz?

A. 144Hz is no doubt the better refresh rate but in real-life use, you won’t be able to notice much of a difference so both of them appear almost the same to the naked eye in most games

But do note that to push more than 100 frames you do need a powerful graphics card and not all games run on 100fps plus except for a few competitive games like CS: GO and Valorant.

Q. Which is better: GTX 1650 Ti or RX 5600M?

A. The RX 5600M by AMD is a slightly more powerful graphics card than the 1650 Ti but most games will usually give you similar performance. So you can go for either of them and you won’t be disappointed.
