BUYING GUIDE FOR GAMING MOUSE UNDER RS 1000

Are you a beginner at PC gaming and don’t know what all are the hype about a gaming mouse?

A gaming mouse is designed specifically for gaming use and has features that set it apart from your standard computer mouse.

Unlike the standard office mouse, a gaming mouse has high DPI values and polling rate which are required for fast-paced gaming.

The sensors found in these gaming mice are also gaming-grade ones that provide accurate and more precise cursor tracking.

We at Bettershark have made a short buying guide that will run you through a few important points that should be taken into consideration before purchasing a gaming mouse for Rs.1000.

Make sure you go through everything and make an informed decision.

Build

By the build of the mouse, we mean the material used in its construction.

Under Rs.1000, the material used in construction is going to be plastic without a doubt but what you should take note of before choosing the mouse is the quality of plastic.

Make sure that the quality of plastic is not cheap and doesn’t feel low quality. Also, check if the mouse has some rubberized texture around the mouse or if it has a matte finish. This gives you a good grip when gaming and prevents the mouse from accidentally slipping from your hands.

If you are planning on winning matches then you should choose a mouse that provides the best grip.

Genre

When choosing a gaming mouse, make sure you decide on a mouse based on the genre of games you play.

The genre of games determines the mouse because certain games require high sensitivity in a mouse while another game might require more programmable buttons rather than sensitivity.

For example, gamers who are into FPS games prefer a mouse that has a high DPI because it makes the mouse more sensitive to move around. On the other hand, a MOBA gamer would prefer a mouse that has a lot of programmable buttons right under their fingertips.

Sensor Type

Unlike an ordinary mouse sensor, gaming mice are equipped with gaming-grade sensors.

The two types of sensors on a gaming mouse are laser and optical sensors.

The debate about whether a laser sensor is better or an optical one has been a never-ending one.

Laser sensors are known for being more accurate and work well on any surface while on the other hand optical sensors work only on some surfaces and do not work that well on a reflective surface.

Optical sensors are used in gaming mice because it is inexpensive compared to a laser sensor but the difference between them is minimal in most of the cases, especially in the budget segment.

The sensor which is most commonly used in a gaming mouse under Rs.1000 would be an optical one so it is best to also invest in a mouse mat.

DPI and Polling Rate

Both DPI and Polling rate are important values you should consider before purchasing a gaming mouse under Rs.1000.

DPI stands for dots per inch and this indicates the sensitivity of the mouse. The higher the DPI the faster the movement of the cursor on the screen and it also reduces the physical distance you have to move your mouse

Polling rate is the number of times the mouse reports its position to the computer. It is measured in Hz. The higher the polling rate the faster the mouse reports the movement.

Under Rs.1000, you will be able to find gaming mice that have a DPI of up to 8000 and as low as 3200. While the polling rate in gaming mice is up to 1000Hz and as low as 125Hz.

In reality, though a DPI of 3200 should be just fine for gaming. Professional gamers usually use a DPI setting between 400-800. These high DPI numbers are nothing other than a marketing gimmick by companies.

So you can go for a mouse with a DPI of your choice since most gaming mice under Rs.1000 will have a minimum of 3000.

Buttons

Buttons on a gaming mouse are of utmost importance.

The number of buttons available and also the ability to program these buttons is a really important feature in a gaming mouse.

Under the budget of Rs.1000, it would be rare to find a gaming mouse with fully programmable buttons but if you do find one it is best to go for it.

Games such as MOBAs require more buttons than a standard mouse. You can also opt for a gaming mouse that has more than 6 buttons but do not go for a gaming mouse with less than 6 buttons.

Miscellaneous

Tracking speed of the mouse is another important factor that you should consider before purchasing a gaming mouse.

Tracking speed is measured in IPS and it is the speed at which the cursor travels around the screen.

The recommended tracking speed for a gaming mouse is 250 IPS but finding a mouse under Rs.1000 which has that tracking speed will be quite a difficult task.

Priced under Rs.1,000, you will find gaming mice that have LED illumination and as well as additional features such as a gold plated USB connector, braided cable, etc. These features are not necessary for a gaming mouse but they do give you some minor benefits.

If you are looking for a gaming mouse under Rs.1000, make sure you properly go through all the above-mentioned points to know which is the best mouse for you.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q. Can I play competitive games with a gaming mouse under Rs.1000?

A. Yes. You can play competitive games using a gaming mouse under Rs.1000 as long as it has a minimum DPI of at least 1600. If you want to play professionally then you should opt for a premium gaming mouse.

Q. Is the 125Hz polling rate okay for gaming?

A. 125Hz polling rate is alright if you don’t intend to play competitive games since it is not much of a concern for casual games.

But if you are keen on playing competitive games like CS GO and Valorant then you should consider going for a gaming mouse with a polling rate of 1000Hz.

    • Hi Pulkit!

Both the Xmate Zorro and the Dash Series G40 mouse have exactly similar specs in terms of the DPI (max. 3200dpi) and the number of buttons (6 including the scroll wheel). Only difference is the design and the form factor. Given these two gaming mice perform equally good, we’d always prefer to go for the lower priced variant, i.e the Xmate Zorro as the most value for money product.

    • Hi Dev,

Both Xmate and Offbeat are Indian companies which rebrand Chinese products and market here with a profit margin. Both companies maybe procuring products from a same factory under different brand names. So it’s really pointless to compare them both for quality and the only difference might be the slight variation in the features and the form factor.
