The Mi Notebook Ultra is one of the most awaited laptop releases this year in the Indian market.

Design and Build Quality

The shell of the Mi Notebook Ultra is forged from aluminium and the lid surface has a sandblasted finish.

Well, the taste of design and looks might be different in your case so we leave that part up to you.

The lid can be lifted with one hand and the robust hinge mechanism ensures that the lid will not wobble that easily under a speedy ceiling fan.

Being a 15-inch machine, this laptop weighs 1.7Kg which is acceptable and portability will not be an issue.

The dome-shaped rubber feet at the bottom keep the laptop firm on a flat surface.

The grille has a slightly larger cut which allows it to draw more air at once and the single fan inside dissipates the heat through the rear side.

Connectivity Features:

The Mi Notebook Ultra features the following I/O ports:

  • 1 x USB-C port (Normal)
  • 1 x USB-C port/ Thunderbolt 4
  • 1 x USB 3.2 port

The 16GB DDR4 RAM inside is clocked at 3200MHz and it will carry out single or multiple tasks without breaking a sweat.

The 512GB SSD provides a swift OS boot up and application loading. From the storage perspective, it should be enough to store multimedia files and documents.

You can view 4K videos of youtube without facing pixelation and the display is bright enough for effortless indoor use.

Miscellaneous

Considering the high-quality panel and other hardware of this laptop the battery will last for up to 5 hours on normal to intense use.

The 65W USB-C power adapter will juice up the laptop battery levels up to 50% in 45 minutes and for the full charge, the time will be around 2 – 2:15 hours.

Verdict

The Mi Notebook Ultra is for working professionals, media enthusiasts, photo editors, and students.

This machine is a complete package under the price of Rs.60,000, it is well built and has a great display and performance.

A tenkeyless red-backlit keyboard on the deck has ample key travel distance that aids in comfortable fast typing.

The single red LED backlit helps this keyboard to be under dimly lit environments without any issues.

Even though the trackpad on this laptop is powered by Windows precision drivers, it fails to read gestures sometimes.

Where Aspire series gratifies the budget buyers with its affordability and performance, the Swift lineup satisfies the need of mid-range laptop consumers.

The Acer Swift 5 is an Intel-powered laptop, perfect for business people and employees who mostly do their job on a portable computing machine.

Design and Build Quality

Acer has picked the green and golden colour scheme for this machine and to be honest, this laptop outclasses every other notebook and ultrabook laptop available on this list in terms of design.

The chassis of Acer Swift 5 is forged from magnesium aluminium alloy. The casing is tough and fingerprint resistant so you don’t have to clean it every time you use it.

Weighing at just 1.05Kg, carrying this laptop around will be a piece of cake and it rests comfortably inside a regular size backpack.

The Swift 5 has dual bottom firing speakers but they are not very loud and the audio quality can be termed decent.

The fans inside remain silent and the heat dissipation is well on point to keep the internal temperature under check.

Connectivity Features:

The Acer Swift 5 features the following I/O ports:

  • 2 x USB 3.2 ports
  • 1 x USB-C port/Thunderbolt 4
  • 1 x HDMI port
  • 3.5mm combo audio jack

This laptop comes with a prestigious EVO badging which means that it has successfully met the requirements of the program set by Intel which includes multitasking, heavy media use, constant toggling, battery life, and many more.

The variant we listed has 8GB LPDDR4x RAM that can handle multitasking load like a champ.

The 512GB SSD inside keeps the performance swift with its tremendous read and write speed. It helps to load the OS at a much faster speed and the same goes for the application loading.

The Intel integrated Iris Xe GPU inside helps the CPU carry out graphics-related tasks but don’t expect it to run AAA title games.

Display

The Acer Swift 5 sports a 14-inch Full HD IPS display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels.

Thanks to those thin bezels on the sides which helps provide the screen to body ratio of 90% and make the panel look bigger than its actual size.

The only problem is that it has no anti-glare coating which means if a natural or artificial light source hits the display directly you won’t be able to see the visuals.

On the other hand, this panel has a 100% sRGB colour gamut meaning the colour reproduction is excellent and the media consumption experience will be delightful.

WIth the 340 nits of peak brightness, this panel is suitable for indoor use.

Since this is an IPS panel, the viewing angles are excellent and you can watch movies in groups 2-3 without having any problems.

Miscellaneous

The Acer Swift 5 comes pre-installed with the Windows 10 Home OS and the official website has claimed that this device will get a free upgrade to Windows 11.

This laptop has a tenkeyless backlit keyboard that offers clicky feedback on typing and you can work in dim light conditions.

On top of all, it has the badge of Intel EVO and a robust aluminium build.

Like Acer, Lenovo has also sped up its process by adapting new processors and technology for its new generation laptops.

The Lenovo Ideapad Slim 5 is the latest model equipped with the fifth generation AMD Ryzen processor offering smooth performance for a budget of just Rs.63,990.

Design and Build Quality

The chassis of the Ideapad Slim 5 from Lenovo is constructed from two materials – an aluminium display lid and a plastic C-deck and bottom plate.

Thanks to its 14-inch form factor and slim profile, this laptop weighs only 1.39Kg and is very easy to carry around in bags and backpacks.

The top surface of the laptop has a matte finish with minimal Lenovo branding, which adds to the overall pleasant and modern appearance.

On top of the C-deck, there are two speakers on either side with 2W sound output power. The audio output from these speakers is quite good and adequate to be audible inside a small room.

Lenovo has provided enough air intake and exhaust grilles to keep the internal temperature of this laptop under control.

The fan sound is minimal and you will barely hear it even if you use 4-5 tabs simultaneously.

Connectivity Features:

The Lenovo Ideapad Slim 5 features the following I/O ports:

  • 2 x USB 3.2 ports
  • 1 x USB-C port (Support Data Transfer and Power Delivery)
  • 1 x HDMI port
  • MicroSD card reader
  • 3.5mm combo audio jack

Processor and Performance

Intel is still hesitant to provide hexa-core processors at this price but AMD went further and changed the game completely.

What runs the Lenovo Ideapad Slim 5 is the new fifth-generation AMD Ryzen 7 – 5700 octa-core processor with a base clock speed of 1.8GHz and its turbo boost frequency of 4..3GHz.

This 8-core 16-thread CPU is a beast and will deliver excellent single core as well as multi-core performance. What it means to the end-user is that there won’t be any lags or stutters while using this laptop even with intense multitasking.

The 8GB RAM comes soldered onto the motherboard and unfortunately, there is no provision to expand the memory further. The 512GB SSD storage ensures fast system boot-up and quick application loading compared to an HDD.

Display

The Lenovo Ideapad Slim 5 sports a 14-inch Full HD LED-backlit anti-glare IPS display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels.

With the peak brightness of 300 nits, we don’t think you will face any problems while using this laptop indoors.

This panel has good colour reproduction and there is no colour shifting as well, thanks to the IPS technology.

To ensure that you can work tirelessly, Lenovo has provided an anti-glare coating on the display which reduces the eye strain and offers a clear view of the display while you work in a room that has bright artificial lighting.

Slim bezels on the sides make this panel look bigger and it’s excellent for media consumption.

Miscellaneous

The Lenovo Ideapad Slim 5 comes pre-installed with the Windows 10 Home OS.

Lenovo has also bundled an original copy of MS Office Home and student 2019. This is a licensed version with lifetime validity and to activate it, you need a Microsoft account.

The tenkeyless backlit keyboard has curved-shaped keys with good key travel distance offering a pleasant typing experience.

The fingerprint scanner is embedded into the power button so the moment you press the power button it automatically reads your fingerprint and lets you log in quickly.

The 720p webcam comes with a privacy shutter which is useful to protect your privacy while the webcam is not in use.

Battery Life

The Lenovo Ideapad Slim 5 is powered by the 56.5Wh lithium polymer battery that is rated to last up to 6-7 hours on moderate to heavy use.

The bundled 65W round tip wall mount charger juices up the laptop battery levels from 0 – 100% in 2 to 2:20 hours.

Verdict

The Lenovo Ideapad Slim 5 is one of the most powerful productivity laptops at the price of Rs.70,000.

The laptop is feature-rich and if you are looking for a machine that can handle intense multitasking then Lenovo Ideapad Slim 5 is the best option you can go for.

Cons

The ROG series from Asus is their flagship gaming laptop lineup featuring some of the most advanced laptops in the market with industry-leading technologies and performance.

The ROG Strix G15 is an entry-level ROG gaming laptop powered by an H series quad-core processor from Intel, available for purchase in the Indian market for a budget under Rs.70,000.

Design and Build Quality

The outer shell of the Asus ROG Strix G15 is made out of high-quality plastic material that feels robust and durable.

This laptop has a BMW inspired design that makes it stand out from the rest of the competition. The outer chassis has raised edges and a sculpted surface that is positioned right above the heat exhaust vents.

The display lid has a brushed finish with a chrome ROG logo that gives this laptop an aggressive look.

Just like any other gaming laptops, the G15 is also heavy as a tank and weighs 2.3Kg, which is expected from a heavy-duty gaming laptop.

The hinge mechanism is a little different from other laptops. The joints of this particular hinge are placed inside the deck for smooth opening and closing operation with ample friction.

Being a gaming laptop, Asus has provided enough air inlets and exhaust vents to keep the internal temperature under check even with heavy loads.

Connectivity Features:

The Asus ROG Strix G15 features the following ports:

  • 3 x USB 3.2 ports
  • 1 x USB-C port
  • 1 x HDMI port

Processor and Performance

The Asus ROG Strix G15 comes equipped with the powerful H-series Intel i5 10th generation 10300H quad-core processor with a base clock speed of 2.5GHz and a turbo boost frequency of 4.5GHz.

Besides CPU, there is a dedicated 4GB DDR6 Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650 Ti graphics that can handle most of the modern AAA titles without any issues.

The 8GB DDR4 RAM onboard provides a snappy performance on everyday tasks and multitasking without any lag. If you feel that this isn’t enough, Asus also lets you expand the RAM up to 32GB.

Speaking of the storage situation, the ROG Strix G15 comes with a 512GB SSD inside that will boot up the system instantaneously and loads the apps and games significantly faster than an HDD.

Display

The ROG Strix G15 features a 15.6-inch Full HD 144Hz LED-backlit anti-glare IPS display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels.

Being an IPS display, the colours look natural and vivid. The sharpness is on point, thanks to the FHD resolution and the visuals and text appear without any pixelation.

This is a 144Hz refresh rate panel that looks extremely smooth, especially when playing games that support high refresh rates and with UI animations.

The brightness of this panel is adequate to comfortably use indoors under brightly lit artificial lights.

Miscellaneous

The ROG Strix G15 comes pre-installed with the Windows 10 Home operating system.

The machine has a tenkeyless RGB keyboard with a 2mm key travel distance which results in a comfortable typing experience.

The precision trackpad sports a left and right mechanical button which sure looks a bit dated but works perfectly fine.

This laptop from Asus does not feature a webcam. So if you intend to do video calls/conferencing with this device, you will have to purchase an external webcam.

Battery Life

The ROG Strix G15 is powered by the 3-cell 48Wh lithium battery inside that will last up to 5 hours on regular use.

However, while gaming the battery will drain drastically so make sure to plug in the bundled 150W AC adapter for optimal performance.

Verdict

The ROG Strix G15 features combine aesthetics and powerful performance that any user can ask for a budget of Rs.70,000.

If a gaming laptop is what you need within this budget, the Strix G15 is one of the best choices currently in the Indian market.

7. MSI Modern 14

Best Travel-friendly Laptop
  • Flagship Intel i7 11th Gen CPU
  • Upgradable hardware
  • Robust aluminium build
BUY FROM FLIPKART

Pros

Military-grade certification

Up to 6 hours of battery life

Backlit keyboard

Cons

No biometric authentication facility

MSI is a Taiwanese computer hardware company known for manufacturing high quality portable and gaming laptops.

The MSI Modern 14 is one of the best portable laptops out there in the market, offering excellent performance with no compromise on the overall build quality.

Design and Build Quality

As expected from MSI, the chassis of the Modern 14 is completely forged from aluminium. Furthermore, this laptop has earned military-grade certification ensuring durability and reliability.

The entire laptop is painted with a carbon grey colour and the machine looks and feels premium in hand.

Even with the use of aluminium, this laptop weighs only 1.3Kg which is surprising but beneficial for the user as it is easy to carry around.

Many laptop brands have been inspired by the Asus ergo lift hinge mechanism and MSI is no different – it raises the deck from ground level providing a comfortable typing position and improves the thermal performance.

Connectivity Features:

The MSI Modern 14 features the following I/O ports:

  • 2 x USB 3.2 ports
  • 1 x USB-C port (Support DisplayPort)
  • 1 x HDMI port
  • MicroSD card reader
  • 3.5mm combo audio jack

Processor and Performance

The MSI Modern 14 laptop comes equipped with the Intel i7 11th generation quad-core processor with a turbo clock frequency of 4.70GHz.

The 8GB DDR4 RAM onboard clocked at 3200MHz can easily handle day to day tasks without breaking a sweat.

The best part is that you can expand the RAM up to 64GB, but it will be overkill on a laptop like this. The maximum we recommend is up to 16GB as it is more than enough to do intense multitasking.

Considering the importance of time, MSI has also included a 512GB NVMe SSD that boot up the system in less than 15 seconds and load your program much faster.

The integrated Intel Xe graphics is for sure better than the old Intel UHD counterparts but is not capable of handling Esport title games with full potential.

Display

The MSI Modern 14 features a 14-inch Full HD IPS display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels.

In terms of the quality of the display, we didn’t find much of an improvement compared to its i5 11th generation model which we had in the list of best laptops under Rs.60,000.

It’s the same panel with vivid colours and sharp visuals. Also, it is an IPS panel so no issue when watching the panel from an angle.

Coming to its usability, the brightness level of the display is good enough for indoor use. Unfortunately, there is no anti-glare coating on the panel which is a bit of a letdown.

Miscellaneous

The MSI Modern 14 comes pre-installed with the Windows 10 Home operating system.

The tenkeyless white LED-backlit keyboard on the deck has large-sized keys with minimal distance in between the keys. Speaking of typing feedback, it feels quite soft.

The trackpad feels a bit smaller in size but it accepts the multi-finger gestures like a champ.

It’s the fresh model of MSI in 2021, yet it still doesn’t feature a fingerprint scanner which feels like a letdown considering the price.

The HD webcam offers decent video quality on facetime calls and is useful for tasks like video conferencing and online classes.

Battery Life

The MSI Modern 14 is powered by the 3-cell 52Wh lithium-polymer battery that offers power backup for up to 6 hours on a full charge.

The bundled 65W power adapter will juice up the power levels from 0 – 100% in 2:15 hours.

Verdict

The MSI Modern 14 is the best travel-friendly laptop that is suitable for office goers and frequent travellers who have loads of work to do on the fly.

It does have some minor exceptions which are not much of an issue and considering its price we think purchasing this laptop for work and professional use will make sense.

At Least once in a lifetime, everyone has used Dell computers in a school, cyber cafe, or at home. With the advancement in technology, Dell has come so far that now it has a variety of laptops and desktop computers.

Considering the price tag we picked Dell Inspiron 7415 from the bunch because we think it has the potential to deliver the best performance and user experience.

Design and Build Quality

Dell has kept its standard up like always. The outer shell of this laptop is made with aluminium and plastic materials.

This hybrid build laptop weighs around 1.56Kg which is slightly higher for a 14-inch machine but is fine as it doesn’t feel like carrying a hefty machine at all.

The top surface has a smooth finish with the adorning Dell logo resting in the center.

The hinge mechanism grants the lid to move up to 360-degree on its axis, so you can convert it into a tablet or set it in a tent mode while viewing content.

To prevent thermal throttling, this laptop has air intake vents at the bottom and the hot air from the system dissipates through the rear side vent.

  • 2 x USB 3.2 ports
  • 1 x USB-C port (Support for Display Port and Power Delivery Port)

It’s been a while since we’ve seen an Inspiron laptop with an AMD processor.

The all-new Dell Inspiron 7415 comes with the fifth generation AMD Ryzen 5 – 5500U hexa-core processor with a base clock speed of 2.4GHz and its turbo boost up to 4GHz.

To handle every task load efficiently, there is an 8GB DDR4 RAM onboard. Thanks to Dell, for offering the RAM expansion provision up to 16GB.

Unlike HP, Dell does include a stylus that you can use to interact with the display. You can take notes, draw pictures or just use it for convenient multitasking.

The side viewing angles are good up to 80 degrees, that being said, we highly recommend sitting in front of the laptop for the optimal experience.

The display has a typical 45% NTSC which is said to be okay and for work purposes, it doesn’t matter much.

This panel has sufficient brightness for home and office use but under direct sunlight, you will struggle to notice the display visuals.

Miscellaneous

The Dell Inspiron 7415 comes pre-installed with the Windows 10 Home OS. As an added benefit, Dell also included the licensed copy of MS Office home/student 2019 with lifetime validity.

The tenkeyless backlit keyboard on the deck offers decent typing feedback and does not limit your work under low-lit conditions, thanks to backlighting.

The trackpad looks very premium though, it supports multi-finger gestures. On the left and right of the trackpad, you will have enough space for palm rest.

The fingerprint scanner is doubled with the power button and lets you log in quickly.

Battery Life

The Dell Inspiron 7415 has a 4-cell 54Wh lithium battery that will provide battery backup for up to 6 hours on moderate to heavy use.

Weighing at just 1.41Kg, not only is this 14-inch laptop thin and lightweight but also compact enough to fit comfortably inside most regular sized bags.

The button firing dual speakers onboard this laptop offers the decent sound quality, but the loudness is not the best per se.

Pros

Wi-Fi 6 connectivity

Bundled MS Office 2019

Decent battery life

Cons

Bulky

HP is one of the top contenders in the laptop market that competes against the brands such as Asus, Lenovo, and Acer.

The HP Victus is a completely new series recently launched in India and the laptop we have here has powerful internal hardware that promises to deliver a smooth computing performance.

Design and Build Quality

The design of the HP Victus reminds us of the HP Omen series laptop.

The HP Victus is made solely from plastic and the flex on the lid cover is a bit more noticeable than usual, though the build quality is decent.

The V logo in the center of the lid and the matte top surface makes this machine look aesthetically pleasing.

If you consider the hardware specifications, this laptop is a gaming machine but aesthetics tells a different story. No sign in the design shows that this machine is a gaming laptop.

Since we are talking about video editing laptops the looks will not be a deal-breaker. The hinge is a bit loose on this one and the lid wobbles when working under a speedy fan.

Weighing at 2.48Kg, the HP Victus is said to be very heavy, and carrying it on the shoulder will be a tad bit difficult.

Thermals are where we are disappointed the most. At the bottom side of the unit, it looks like it has so much space for air intake but if you look closely you discover that it only has cuts where the fan is placed as a result CPU temperature goes up to 100 celsius even while playing games like Valorant.

We recommend using an external cooling pad for better thermal performance.

Connectivity Features:

The HP Victus features the following I/O ports:

  • 3 x USB 3.0 ports
  • 1 x USB-C port
  • 1 x HDMI port
  • RJ-45 LAN port
  • SD card reader
  • 3.5mm combo audio jack

Processor and Performance

This professional-looking laptop HP Victus is powered by the fifth-generation AMD Ryzen 5 – 5600H hexa-core processor with a base clock speed of 3.3GHz and its turbo boost frequency of 4.2GHz.

HP has also included a 4GB DDR6 Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650 GPU that offers good performance on video editing and gaming.

This machine has 8GB RAM onboard offering a buttery smooth performance on multitasking and you can also extend memory up to 32GB which will be required if you are planning to use resource-intensive applications such as Adobe After Effects.

Speaking of the storage, there is a 512GB SSD which accelerates the system boot-up process and app loading time is minimal.

Thankfully, there is another slot for SSD expansion and you can increase the storage capacity up to 4TB.

Display

The HP Victus features a 16.1-inch Full HD anti-glare IPS display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels.

This panel has thin bezels and thanks to its slightly large form factor, the media consumption and gaming experience are pleasant and immersive.

The display has only a 60Hz refresh rate which is a bit disappointing but for editing purposes, it doesn’t matter much.

The colour reproduction of this panel is good and the side viewing angles are good as well, thanks to the IPS technology.

Miscellaneous

The HP Victus comes pre-installed with the Windows 10 Home OS. In most gaming machines you don’t get MS Office software for free but this HP machine has it and to utilize it all -you have to do is to login into Microsoft account.

The full-sized single LED backlit keyboard on the deck offers tactile feedback and you can work effectively in dark environments.

The trackpad is quite large though and it supports multi-finger gestures.

The webcam at the top chin of the display provides a good video quality when sitting in a room that has sufficient lighting conditions.

The speaker of this laptop is fine tuned by Bang & Olufsen but audio quality is average so use headphones to experience best sound quality.

Battery Life

The HP Victus is powered by a 4-cell 70Wh lithium battery rated to last for approximately 5 hours with normal to heavy use.

The bundled 150W power adapter will recharge the battery levels from 0 – 100% in 2 to 2:30 hours.

Verdict

If you are looking for a video editing machine that looks professional and offers the same performance as a gaming machine then HP Victus is right for you.

Priced under Rs.70,000, we like the HP Victus for its performance, however the design could have been better.

The Inspiron lineup has been in the market for a while, competing with the likes of Acer swift and Lenovo IdeaPad series.

The Inspiron 5301 is a premium budget powerhouse from Dell that delivers swift performance and great battery life for a budget well under Rs.70,000.

Design and Build Quality

The exterior of the Dell Inspiron 5301 remains resilient with the aluminium construction and the build quality feels premium just as we expected.

This laptop has a rubber drop hinge mechanism which is similar to the ergo lift hinge mechanism that we’ve seen in many Asus laptops. When you raise the lid to a certain extent the deck will raise automatically resulting in a comfortable typing position as well as aids in better thermal performance.

Weighing just 1.08Kg, the Dell Inspiron 3501 is one of the lightest laptops on this list. Thanks to the 13-inch form factor, this machine fits comfortably inside bags and backpacks.

Connectivity Features:

The Dell Inspiron 5301 features the following I/O ports:

  • 2 x USB 3.2 ports
  • 1 x USB-C port (Display port and Power delivery)
  • 1 x HDMI port
  • MicroSD card reader
  • 3.5mm combo audio jack

Processor and Performance

The Dell Inspiron 5301 comes equipped with the latest eleventh-generation Intel i5 quad-core processor with a turbo boost frequency of 4.2GHz.

The 8GB DDR4 RAM onboard is clocked at 4267MHz which is probably the fastest in this segment and can handle multitasking without breaking a sweat.

Since this is an ultrabook designed for working professionals and students, the omission of a dedicated GPU doesn’t feel much like a deal-breaker. The integrated Intel Iris Xe GPU is efficient enough to handle intensive-graphical tasks.

This ultrabook laptop comes equipped with a 1TB SSD which is quite a rarity among mid-range laptops. Most laptops priced under Rs.70,000 either come with a hybrid SSD + HDD system or a 512GB SSD storage.

Having a 1TB SSD inside ensures ample storage space and instantaneous app load times and boot up.

Display

The Dell Inspiron 5301 features a 13.3-inch Full HD anti-glare IPS display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels.

You will be impressed by this display in terms of its colour accuracy and dynamic range. This panel covers 95% of the sRGB colour gamut and there is no colour shifting when viewed from the sides.

The visuals and text appear razor-sharp and clean, thanks to the high pixel density on this relatively smaller sized display.

Dell has also added an anti-glare coating on top, thereby minimizing the light reflections and the resulting strain on the eyes.

Miscellaneous

The Dell Inspiron 5301 comes pre-installed with the Windows 10 Home operating system.

The tenkeyless keyboard has LED backlighting underneath making it comfortable for low light usage. The keys on the keyboard are spaced well and the overall typing experience is decent.

Similar to some other Inspiron models, this laptop also features a fingerprint reader for quick and easy login without any compromise in security.

The webcam on this ultrabook is of good quality and delivers decent visual quality with video calls/conferences.

Battery Life

The Dell Inspiron 5301 is powered by a 4-cell 53Wh lithium battery which will last you for up to 6 hours on a single charge at minimum brightness.

The bundled 65W power adapter supports ExpressCharge technology which juices up the battery up to 80% in just 60 minutes. Just make sure you close the laptop while charging.

Verdict

The Dell Inspiron 5301 is an ideal machine for frequent travellers and office users who want a thin and lightweight laptop with enough firepower to deliver a smooth everyday usage experience.

Buying Guide For The Best Laptop Under Rs.70,000

Laptops have become a quintessential part of our daily lives as the era moved towards digitization and the resulting internet revolution that changed almost everything around us.

With stiff competition among different brands, the prices of laptops have come down without any compromise on the performance metrics.

For a budget of Rs.70,000, there are a ton of laptop models out there with capable internals for gaming, daily use and content creation.

In this short buying guide, we aim to list a few points which should be enough to ensure that your purchase won’t go bust.

Build Quality

The budget of Rs.70,000 is borderline premium and you can expect well-built laptops in this price segment.

There are laptops with metal chassis as well as plastic available for purchase in this price bracket.

Most of the gaming laptops in this price segment will be made from plastic while the notebooks and casual use laptops are available as a full metal build, preferably aluminium.

If you are looking for a daily use machine, we’d suggest you go for a thin and lightweight metal chassis notebook and if you are after performance computing, a plastic chassis laptop will be your best bet.

CPU

The latest processors to hit the Indian market recently are Intel eleventh generation series and the AMD Ryzen fourth generation.

The performance gaps between Intel and AMD processors have come down a lot despite the price difference.

Tenth generation Intel processors are also a good choice for this price if casual everyday usage is your primary concern.

While choosing a processor, always look for the clock speeds. Higher the variation between base clock speed and the turbo boost speed better will be the performance as well as the battery life of the laptop.

GPU

Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) is a standalone processor dedicated for graphics calculations.

If you are buying a laptop for gaming or content creation works such as video editing, it is necessary to have a dedicated GPU onboard, without which you can utilize the full potential of the machine.

Even with dedicated graphics, you should be aware of the entry-level MX series and premium GTX series GPUs from Nvidia.

While MX series dedicated graphics work well for daily usage, it is preferable to go for a machine with GTX grade graphics for hardcore gaming and video editing.

Display

While finalizing on a laptop display, there are two things worth noting – display size and the resolution.

All the laptops retailing in the sub. Rs.70,000 price point comes with Full HD panels with a native resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels.

Now speaking of the display size, if media consumption is your primary concern, going with the regular 15.6-ich panel is fine. But if you wish to travel a lot with the laptop in your backpack, we suggest you go with the smaller 14-inch laptops.

Having additional features such as IPS technology and the anti-glare coating is very much desirable in this price bracket.

Storage

To be honest, never go for a laptop with just a single HDD as the storage medium. HDDs are outdated and the modern SSD storage is much faster and reliable.

You can either go with laptops having hybrid SSD+HDD storage or SSD storage alone.

Keep in mind that a faster SSD storage is as important as the processor in determining the overall computing performance.

Frequently Asked Questions

    • Hi Kshitij!

The Asus Vivobook 14 is powered by the latest fourth generation Ryzen 5 processor and is capable of fulfilling all your academic needs without any issues. The integrated Vega 6 graphics offers significantly faster graphics performance when compared with the Intel integrated graphics available out there. If you’re not in to gaming, this laptop is definitely a good choice for a lightweight, powerful laptop. Unfortunately, the RAM comes soldered on board and you can’t upgrade it to boost performance further. However, for academic tasks, we think 8GB RAM will work just fine.

      • Hi Kshitij!

Laptop displays usually come with low peak brightness levels when compared with the smaller sized smartphone panels. While these displays work perfectly fine indoors don’t expect them to perform the same under direct sunlight. Yes, you will be able to view the display outdoors but with the sun directly above your head, it’s obvious to face some difficulty in screen legibility. It’s the case with most of the laptops.

    • Hi Saif!

The comparison between two processors is impossible without the particular model number. However, assuming you are asking about Asus TUF laptops priced under Rs.70,000 – there are two models available, the Asus TUF FX505GT with Intel i5 9300H and the Asus TUF FX505DT with the Ryzen 5 3550H. Between this laptops, we’d suggest you to go for the Intel powered laptop as it consistently better performance in benchmarks and other load tests, which effectively means better real world performance. Both of these laptops are priced conveniently under Rs.65,000 currently in the Indian market.
