The Inspiron lineup has been in the market for a while, competing with the likes of Acer swift and Lenovo IdeaPad series.

The Inspiron 5301 is a premium budget powerhouse from Dell that delivers swift performance and great battery life for a budget well under Rs.70,000.

Design and Build Quality

The exterior of the Dell Inspiron 5301 remains resilient with the aluminium construction and the build quality feels premium just as we expected.

This laptop has a rubber drop hinge mechanism which is similar to the ergo lift hinge mechanism that we’ve seen in many Asus laptops. When you raise the lid to a certain extent the deck will raise automatically resulting in a comfortable typing position as well as aids in better thermal performance.

Connectivity Features:

The Dell Inspiron 5301 features the following I/O ports:

  • 2 x USB 3.2 ports
  • 1 x USB-C port (Display port and Power delivery)

Processor and Performance

The Dell Inspiron 5301 comes equipped with the latest eleventh-generation Intel i5 quad-core processor with a turbo boost frequency of 4.2GHz.

The 8GB DDR4 RAM onboard is clocked at 4267MHz which is probably the fastest in this segment and can handle multitasking without breaking a sweat.

Since this is an ultrabook designed for working professionals and students, the omission of a dedicated GPU doesn’t feel much like a deal-breaker. The integrated Intel Iris Xe GPU is efficient enough to handle intensive-graphical tasks.

This ultrabook laptop comes equipped with a 1TB SSD which is quite a rarity among mid-range laptops. Most laptops priced under Rs.70,000 either come with a hybrid SSD + HDD system or a 512GB SSD storage.

Having a 1TB SSD inside ensures ample storage space and instantaneous app load times and boot up.

Display

The Dell Inspiron 5301 features a 13.3-inch Full HD anti-glare IPS display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels.

You will be impressed by this display in terms of its colour accuracy and dynamic range. This panel covers 95% of the sRGB colour gamut and there is no colour shifting when viewed from the sides.

The visuals and text appear razor-sharp and clean, thanks to the high pixel density on this relatively smaller sized display.

Pros

Cons

Bulky

Lenovo has a strong presence in the budget mid-range laptop segment in the Indian market with its affordable Ideapad lineup.

This time the company has taken it up a notch above to introduce a powerful gaming-oriented laptop – the Ideapad gaming 3 laptop for a budget under Rs.70,000 in India

Design and Build Quality

The Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3 uses high-quality polycarbonate plastic for its build that feels durable and reliable for long term usage.

The lid has a matte finish that feels premium and a chamfered cut design on the upper surface giving this machine a minimal, modern look.

A 720p HD webcam on the top chin of the display delivers good visual quality during video calls when used under brightly lit environments.

The webcam comes with a privacy shutter to make sure your privacy is being protected.

Weighing at 2.2Kg, this gaming laptop feels a bit heavier than other laptops, but considering the gaming specs inside, this feels quite okay.

The hot air from the system dissipated through the right-hand side vent. During the heavy processing, you can hear slight fan noise but not as much as it is a deal-breaker.

Connectivity Features:

The Lenovo Ideapad Gaming 3 features the following I/O ports:

  • 2 x USB 3.2 ports
  • 1 x USB-C port
  • 1 x HDMI port
  • RJ-45 LAN port
  • 3.5mm combo audio jack

Processor and Performance

The Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3 is powered by a powerful AMD Ryzen 5 – 4600H six-core processor with a base clock speed of 3GHz.

This CPU from AMD can handle resource-intensive applications and graphics-heavy games without any lags or stutters.

Lenovo has provided a dedicated 4GB DDR6 Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650 Ti graphics on this machine for superior performance in graphics-related tasks.

Running an Esport title game at a high setting or Adobe software like photoshop or premiere pro is a cakewalk for this laptop, to be honest.

The onboard 8GB DDR4 RAM clocked at 3200MHz is capable of handling casual tasks such as chrome and MS office and intense gaming sessions as well.

Expanding RAM up to 16GB is possible and this results in much better performance, especially with gaming and productivity tasks such as video editing.

The primary 512GB SSD inside runs any program instantaneously once you double-click and boot up the laptop significantly fast.

Display

The Lenovo Ideapad Gaming 3 features a 15.6-inch Full HD LED-backlit anti-glare IPS display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels.

This panel contains an anti-glare coating which reduces the light reflectivity of the display and reduces the strain on your eyes.

This 15.6-inch display has a peak brightness of 250 nits, ideal enough to work easily under the home/office roof. The contrast level is good therefore the image quality looks more defined and pleasing.

This panel has a decent colour reproduction. The gaming experience will be amazing but for editors, this display might not be the right choice as it has less sRGB gamut coverage.

The Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3 comes pre-installed with the Windows 10 Home OS.

The blue-backlit keyboard of this laptop looks fantastic. The half-elliptical key design is very well spaced and has a decent key travel distance for a comfortable typing experience.

The trackpad on this laptop has a matte finish it which feels smooth and the response is clicky. It also supports multi-finger gesture actions.

Battery Life

The Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3 is powered by a 45Wh lithium battery. This battery is rated to last 5 to 6 hours on a full charge with moderate use.

During heavy gaming, video editing, or designing, expect the laptop battery to drain faster.

The 135W AC charging adapter in the box quickly juices up the battery inside within 2.30 hours.

Verdict

The Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3 is one of the best budget gaming laptops priced under Rs.70,000. This AMD powered laptop delivers marvellous gaming and multitasking experience.

Buying Guide For The Best Laptop Under Rs.70,000

Laptops have become a quintessential part of our daily lives as the era moved towards digitization and the resulting internet revolution that changed almost everything around us.

With stiff competition among different brands, the prices of laptops have come down without any compromise on the performance metrics.

For a budget of Rs.70,000, there are a ton of laptop models out there with capable internals for gaming, daily use and content creation.

In this short buying guide, we aim to list a few points which should be enough to ensure that your purchase won’t go bust.

Build Quality

The budget of Rs.70,000 is borderline premium and you can expect well-built laptops in this price segment.

There are laptops with metal chassis as well as plastic available for purchase in this price bracket.

Most of the gaming laptops in this price segment will be made from plastic while the notebooks and casual use laptops are available as a full metal build, preferably aluminium.

If you are looking for a daily use machine, we’d suggest you go for a thin and lightweight metal chassis notebook and if you are after performance computing, a plastic chassis laptop will be your best bet.

CPU

The latest processors to hit the Indian market recently are Intel eleventh generation series and the AMD Ryzen fourth generation.

The performance gaps between Intel and AMD processors have come down a lot despite the price difference.

Tenth generation Intel processors are also a good choice for this price if casual everyday usage is your primary concern.

While choosing a processor, always look for the clock speeds. Higher the variation between base clock speed and the turbo boost speed better will be the performance as well as the battery life of the laptop.

GPU

Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) is a standalone processor dedicated for graphics calculations.

If you are buying a laptop for gaming or content creation works such as video editing, it is necessary to have a dedicated GPU onboard, without which you can utilize the full potential of the machine.

Even with dedicated graphics, you should be aware of the entry-level MX series and premium GTX series GPUs from Nvidia.

While MX series dedicated graphics work well for daily usage, it is preferable to go for a machine with GTX grade graphics for hardcore gaming and video editing.

Display

While finalizing on a laptop display, there are two things worth noting – display size and the resolution.

All the laptops retailing in the sub. Rs.70,000 price point comes with Full HD panels with a native resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels.

Now speaking of the display size, if media consumption is your primary concern, going with the regular 15.6-ich panel is fine. But if you wish to travel a lot with the laptop in your backpack, we suggest you go with the smaller 14-inch laptops.

Having additional features such as IPS technology and the anti-glare coating is very much desirable in this price bracket.

Storage

To be honest, never go for a laptop with just a single HDD as the storage medium. HDDs are outdated and the modern SSD storage is much faster and reliable.

You can either go with laptops having hybrid SSD+HDD storage or SSD storage alone.

Keep in mind that a faster SSD storage is as important as the processor in determining the overall computing performance.

    • Hi Kshitij!

The Asus Vivobook 14 is powered by the latest fourth generation Ryzen 5 processor and is capable of fulfilling all your academic needs without any issues. The integrated Vega 6 graphics offers significantly faster graphics performance when compared with the Intel integrated graphics available out there. If you’re not in to gaming, this laptop is definitely a good choice for a lightweight, powerful laptop. Unfortunately, the RAM comes soldered on board and you can’t upgrade it to boost performance further. However, for academic tasks, we think 8GB RAM will work just fine.

      • Hi Kshitij!

Laptop displays usually come with low peak brightness levels when compared with the smaller sized smartphone panels. While these displays work perfectly fine indoors don’t expect them to perform the same under direct sunlight. Yes, you will be able to view the display outdoors but with the sun directly above your head, it’s obvious to face some difficulty in screen legibility. It’s the case with most of the laptops.

    • Hi Saif!

The comparison between two processors is impossible without the particular model number. However, assuming you are asking about Asus TUF laptops priced under Rs.70,000 – there are two models available, the Asus TUF FX505GT with Intel i5 9300H and the Asus TUF FX505DT with the Ryzen 5 3550H. Between this laptops, we’d suggest you to go for the Intel powered laptop as it consistently better performance in benchmarks and other load tests, which effectively means better real world performance. Both of these laptops are priced conveniently under Rs.65,000 currently in the Indian market.
