Asus is one of the go-to brands for laptops – be it budget-friendly, gaming or premium models in the Indian market.

The Asus TUF Gaming F15 is equipped with the latest configuration and promises to deliver reliable performance for the asking price of Rs.79,990.

Design and Build Quality

The lid cover of TUF Gaming F15 is made using aluminium alloy whereas the C-deck and bottom chassis are crafted from plastic.

As the name suggests, the laptop is TUF, and to justify its name Asus has put this machine under rigorous testing and it has earned military-grade certification for itself showing that it is durable and reliable for most use cases.

With the powerful hardware inside and the large 15-inch form factor, this laptop weighs 2.3Kg and it does feel heavy on the shoulder so you better be ready if you also have work on the go.

You can open the lid with a single hand most of the time and the hinge mechanism prevents the lid from wobbling unnecessarily.

The laptop sure has an aggressive design that will attract most of the gaming enthusiasts out there. The honeycomb-shaped vent design at the bottom and the rear is not just for aesthetic beauty but to improve thermal performance.

Connectivity Features:

The Asus TUF Gaming F15 features the following I/O ports:

  • 3 x USB 3.2 ports
  • 1 x USB-C port
  • 1 x HDMI port
  • RJ-45 LAN port
  • 3.5mm combo audio jack

Processor and Performance

The Asus TUF Gaming F15 is powered by the latest Intel i5 11th generation H-series hexa-core processor with a turbo clock frequency of 4.5GHz.

This laptop includes a 4GB DDR6 RTX 3050 dedicated GPU which is significantly better in performance compared to the GTX 1650 GPU.

Having this on the table will let you edit high-quality videos and run AAA title games at a minimum of 60fps.

This laptop comes with 8GB DDR4 RAM which is adequate for everyday use and multitasking. Asus also provides the RAM expansion provision up to 32GB which can come in handy anytime in the future.

The 512GB SSD will boot up the system in seconds and reduce the application loading time significantly.

Display

The Asus TUF Gaming F15 features a 15.6-inch 144Hz Full HD LED-backlit anti-glare IPS display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels.

Colour accuracy wise, this display ranks quite well for the asking price of this laptop. The brightness is adequate and the dynamic range feels respectable for indoor use.

Since this is a 144Hz refresh rate panel, the visuals and animations look silky smooth and immersive.

Thanks to the IPS panel, there is no colour shifting issue when viewing the display from an angle.

The thin bezels on the sides make this display appear bigger than its actual size and adds to the media consumption experience.

Miscellaneous

The Asus TUF Gaming F15 comes pre-installed with the Windows 10 Home OS.

The full-sized RGB backlit keyboard on the deck has good quality keys with ample travel distance which offers tactile feedback.

The trackpad is a bit old-fashioned. It has left and right dedicated buttons which are responsive and many people still like this setup.

The trackpad supports multi-finger gestures. A major letdown at this price we find is the omission of a fingerprint scanner.

The bottom-firing speakers are not the best ones we’ve heard till now and we suggest you should use your favourite earphone or headphone for the surround sound experience.

Battery Life

The Asus TUF Gaming F15 is powered by a 4-cell 90Wh lithium battery. This battery sure sounds big and it does offer up to 6 hours of battery life with normal use as the panel is running on 144Hz refresh rate.

If you count intense gaming sessions, then expect the battery to last for up to 3 hours which is fine for a gaming laptop.

The 180W power brick will help to juice up the battery and if you have important rendering going on then make sure to plug in the charger.

Verdict

The Asus TUF Gaming F15 is our top pick due to its robust build quality and reliable performance.

If you don’t mind the weight, then buying this machine for the price of Rs.79,990 will be a no-brainer choice.

The Micro-Star International a.k.a MSI is a Taiwan-based computer hardware manufacturer manufacturing powerful notebooks, ultrabooks, and gaming laptops.

It’s quite surprising to see MSI Prestige 14 retailing at this price. This laptop is perfect for business and productivity use.

Design and Build Quality

When we looked at this machine for the first time, we thought it’s a premium reincarnation of Honor MagicBook 15 which was a huge hit last year.

Why did we say that? Well, it has the same blue chamfered edges, aluminium chassis, and superior finishing all over the body.

The chassis of the MSI Prestige 14 is forged from thin aluminium and as a result, the machine feels very premium and lightweight.

Since the chassis is so thin you will notice some minor flex on the lid surface which is acceptable.

Weighing at just 1.29Kg, this laptop is very lightweight and easy to carry around in bags and backpacks.

This laptop also features an ergo lift hinge mechanism which raises the keyboard deck from the ground to provide the user with a comfortable typing posture.

Raising the deck creates a big headroom for the air to travel inside which is good as the machine will remain cool most of the time.

Connectivity Features:

The MSI Prestige 14 features the following I/O ports:

  • 2 x USB-C ports (Thunderbolt 4)
  • 1 x USB 2.0 port
  • MicroSD card reader
  • 3.5mm combo audio jack

Processor and Performance

The showrunner of the MSI Prestige 14 is the Intel i5 11th generation quad-core processor with a turbo clock speed of 4.2GHz.

This laptop has managed to earn that badge of Intel EVO which is given exclusively to a laptop that passed several tests from Intel which includes performance and battery life tests.

The 16GB LPDDR4X RAM on board is more than sufficient to do intense multitasking, still, MSI has offered RAM expansion provision up to 32GB.

The machine includes a 512GB SSD that has tremendous read and write speeds resulting in a quick system boot up and fast application loading.

The Intel integrated Iris Xe GPU assists the CPU handle graphic-intensive tasks. Since the machine is designed for working purposes, the lack of a dedicated GPU does not feel like a deal-breaker.

Display

The MSI Prestige 14 sports a 14-inch Full HD IPS display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels.

If you are looking for a machine to edit high-quality photos then go for this laptop as the panel has a 100% sRGB of colour gamut.

That being said, the visuals look vivid and punchy. Also, thanks to the IPS technology, the viewing angles are great too.

This wide viewing display is excellent for work as well as for media consumption.

Miscellaneous

The MSI Prestige 14 comes pre-installed with the Windows 10 Home operating system.

The tenkeyless backlit keyboard on the deck has fairly large-sized keys with minimal vertical travel distance that offers a soft typing experience.

The trackpad is very broad and the area for the palm rest is minimal. This trackpad registers multi-finger gestures flawlessly.

The trackpad has a shining blue border that adds to the laptop’s overall aesthetics. Also inside the trackpad, there is a fingerprint sensor offering quick and secure login access to the system.

If the fingerprint is not your liking you can use face recognition as well. The camera at the display top chin is an IR HD webcam that offers excellent video output on facetime calls.

Battery Life

The MSI Prestige 14 is powered by a 3-cell 52Wh lithium battery that offers power backup for up to 6 hours on a full charge.

The 65W bundled charger will help juice up the battery life from 0 – 100% in 2 hours.

Verdict

The MSI Prestige 14 is one of the best mid-range premium ultrabooks at the price of Rs.79,990.

This Intel EVO certified laptop offers excellent performance and battery life. If you are running a business and need a powerful laptop then this is the right one for you.

The Ideapad lineup from Lenovo is one of the most popular budget-midrange laptop series in the Indian market.

The Lenovo Ideapad Slim 5 is a 15-inch laptop powered by the latest AMD processor priced well under Rs.80,000.

Design and Build Quality

The Lenovo Ideapad Slim 5 is built using two types of materials. The lid part is aluminium and the base chassis is forged from plastic.

The design is pretty much similar to its Intel-powered variant so there’s nothing extra to blab about.

Weighing at 1.66Kg, the machine is slightly on the heavier side.

The hinge mechanism delivers a smooth motion when you open/close the lid and also prevents shakiness when using the machine under a speedy ceiling fan.

The speaker grille placement reminds us of HP laptops. This front-facing speaker produces crisp quality vocals but the loudness is okay and the bass is not that vibrant.

The easy solution is to use a pair of good earphones or external speakers if you have any.

Talking about its thermal performance, the laptop has a single fan inside blowing the heat out from the rear vents to minimize the temperature on internal components.

Connectivity Features:

The Lenovo Ideapad Slim 5 features the following I/O ports:

  • 2 x USB 3.2 ports
  • 1 x USB-C port (Power Delivery and Display Port)
  • 1 x HDMI port
  • MicroSD card reader
  • 3.5mm combo audio jack

Processor and Performance

The CPU inside the Lenovo Ideapad Slim 5 is the fifth generation AMD Ryzen 7 – 5700U octa-core processor with a base clock speed of 1.8GHz and its turbo boost up to 4.3GHz.

This power-efficient chipset offers exceptional multicore performance and easily beats the premium Intel i7 processor.

The 16GB DDR4 RAM on the motherboard handles all your ongoing tasks without a hitch and you can do multitasking without breaking a sweat.

In regards to storage, the laptop comes with a 512GB SSD that offers plenty of space to store files offline.

Apart from being a storage module, it also elevates the laptop performance by speeding up the process of system boot up and application loading time.

The AMD Radeon integrated graphics assist the CPU to handle graphic-intensive tasks.

Display

The Lenovo Ideapad Slim 5 sports a 15.6-inch Full HD anti-glare IPS display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels.

The display has a peak brightness of 300 nits that is adequate for indoor use but outdoor usability is bad.

The colour reproduction is good and there is no negative effect in visual when viewing from the side, thanks to the IPS technology.

The anti-glare coating on the display will block the light reflection and help reduce the eye strain so you can work effectively for hours.

Bezels on the sides are thin, making this panel look bigger than its actual size, and watching movies on this panel is a joyful experience.

Miscellaneous

The Lenovo Ideapad Slim 5 comes pre-installed with the Windows 10 Home OS and also features a fully licensed version of MS Home and Office 2019.

The full-sized white backlit keyboard has curved-shaped keys that offer good typing feedback and you can work hassle-free in the low lit environment by enabling the backlighting.

Thankfully, Lenovo didn’t step back on providing the Windows Hello login facility. The fingerprint sensor is embedded in the power button for secure login.

The asymmetrically positioned trackpad supports multi-finger gestures correctly.

The HD webcam on the display top chin delivers a decent video quality output and it also has a physical shutter so your privacy is protected while you are not using the webcam.

Battery Life

The Lenovo Ideapad Slim 5 is powered by the 57Wh lithium-polymer battery that gives power backup for up to 6 to 7 hours on continuous use.

The bundled 65W power adapter recharges the battery percentage from 0-100% in 2 to 2:30 hours.

Verdict

This Lenovo laptop is one of the best multitasking laptops for working professionals and travellers for a budget under Rs.80,000.

It includes strong hardware and the shell is also made out of good quality materials so for its asking price we think it’s the best notebook laptop you can buy.

Cons

Heavy

Acer is a brand that is known for its aggressive pricing strategies and providing its customers with laptops having better hardware specifications at reasonable prices.

The Nitro series from Acer is the budget premium gaming laptop lineup from Acer retailing around Rs.80,000 in the Indian market.

Design and Build Quality

Acer has nailed the Nitro 5 in terms of design. The red and black paint scheme makes this gaming laptop stand out from the rest of the competition.

The entire chassis is made from hard plastic materials. While the fit and finish of the materials might mistake it for a metal build, it’s not.

The Nitro 5 laptop features a chamfered edge cut around the display bezels which gives this laptop a distinct design flair, much different from other competitor models.

This gaming laptop weighs around 2.4Kg, which considering the gaming-grade hardware inside and the 15-inch form factor is quite acceptable.

The robust hinge mechanism works well to keep the display lid from wobbling, even when used under a speedy ceiling fan.

Speaking about the fan, this gaming laptop has dual fans inside that keep the internal temperature in check. The exhaust vents are located on the rear end and the sides.

Connectivity Features:

Acer Nitro 5 features the following I/O ports:

  • 3 x USB 3.2 ports
  • 1 x USB Type-C port
  • 1 x HDMI port
  • RJ-45 LAN port
  • 3.5mm combo audio jack

Processor and Performance

What powers the Acer Nitro 5 inside is an AMD Ryzen 5 – 5600H hexa-core processor with a base clock speed of 3.3GHz.

This processor has a turbo boost frequency of 4.2GHz, which is more than enough to handle resource-intensive tasks such as gaming and video rendering like a champ.

Regarding the GPU, the Acer Nitro 5 features an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650 with 4GB of DDR6 VRAM inside. This GPU along with the hexa-core Intel processor is powerful enough to deliver a smooth and lag-free gaming experience.

This machine comes with 8GB DDR4 RAM onboard, which is quite the standard for entry-level gaming laptops these days. If you feel it isn’t enough, Acer has provided an additional slot to increase the RAM up to 32GB.

Acer Nitro 5 has a hybrid storage system on offer which includes a primary 256GB SSD to save the OS files and a 1TB regular HDD for offline file storage.

This setup offers the best of both worlds – faster OS boot up and app loading and ample storage space to save miscellaneous files.

Display

Acer Nitro 5 features the 15.6-inch 144Hz Full HD LED-backlit IPS display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels.

This 144Hz high refresh rate panel delivers buttery smooth visuals, especially when playing those modern games which support high refresh rate playback.

Colour reproduction is not the strong suit of the Acer Nitro 5 laptop. But it does reasonably good to provide a vivid and bright visual output, ideal for gaming and media consumption but not much favourable for graphics designers and video editors.

The brightness levels of this panel are decent indoors, even when used under brightly lit artificial lights.

Miscellaneous

Acer Nitro 5 comes pre-installed with the Windows 10 Home OS.

The full-sized keyboard on the C-deck has good key travel and satisfactory typing feedback. This is an RGB keyboard with LED backlighting which adds to the overall gaming flair.

The box-shaped trackpad supports multi-finger gestures but while gaming try to use a dedicated gaming mouse for better performance.

Battery Life

Acer Nitro 5 is powered by a 4-cell 57.5Wh lithium-ion battery that lasts for around 5 hours on casual use which is obvious for a gaming laptop.

The battery drains way too quickly if you game with the 144Hz refresh rate display. So while gaming, keep the power adapter plugged in for optimal performance.

The 135W AC power brick that comes bundled with the Nitro 5 takes about 2 to 3 hours to juice up the battery from zero to a hundred per cent.

Verdict

Acer Nitro 5 is a performance monster with the flagship level CPU and GPU on board.

If you are looking for a gaming laptop packed with features, this is a good choice for a budget under Rs.80,000.

Miscellaneous

MSI Bravo 15 comes pre-installed with Windows 10 Home OS.

A tenkeyless red-backlit keyboard on the deck has ample key travel distance that aids in comfortable fast typing.

Even though the trackpad on this laptop is powered by Windows precision drivers, it fails to read gestures sometimes.

Battery Life

Not only that, ergo life helps the air intake at the bottom of the laptop to suck in more fresh air to keep the internals cool.

This is an anti-glare IPS display with excellent viewing angles and minimal light reflectivity. Apart from that, the minimal bezels on the side mean almost 90% of screen to body ratio, providing an immersive visual experience with no compromise.

This particular display panel covers 100% of the sRGB colour gamut, meaning excellent colour reproduction. The dynamic range is equally good resulting in vivid and life-like visuals throughout.

With a peak brightness level of 300nits, this panel looks legible even when used under brightly lit interiors.

Miscellaneous

The keyboard as expected is backlit and has a decent 1.4mm key travel distance for a comfortable typing experience.

The curved keys prevent mistyping and guide the fingers through the keys accurately.

To negate the lack of a dedicated number pad, the touchpad has the provision to display the number pad digitally as a capacitive keyboard.

The quality of the touchpad is very good and the gestures work flawlessly as intended.

Apart from the genuine Windows 10 OS, Asus has also bundled a copy of MS Office 2019 Home/Student with this laptop.

Battery Life

The Zenbook 14 from Asus is powered by a 4-cell 67Whr battery that the company claims will last up to a whopping 21 hours on a single charge.

However, take this number with a pinch of salt and expect anywhere from 8-10 hours of real-life usage.

The bundled 65W adapter supports fast charging and juices up the battery from 0-60% in just under 50 minutes.

Verdict

If you’re a frequent traveller who would like to work on the fly, the Asus Zenbook 14 is the best travel laptop for a budget under Rs.80,000.

The impressive battery life and the powerful performance makes this laptop a champion in its segment without any doubt.

BUY FROM AMAZON

Pros

Lightweight and compact

Fast charging support

Cons

No hardware upgradability

The YOGA series laptops from Lenovo are known for their uncompromised performance available in a lightweight and portable form factor.

The YOGA Slim 7i is one of the best laptops in this lineup priced very competently under Rs.80,000 in the Indian market.

Design and Build Quality

The Lenovo YOGA Slim 7 features an all-metal aluminium chassis. Not only does this metal finish give the laptop a premium feel, but also adds to its durability.

Weighing just 1.33Kg, the Lenovo YOGA is one of the lightest laptops we’ve reviewed on this list.

It is so much easier to carry around and thanks to its compact 14-inch form factor, this travel laptop will fit in your bags and backpacks without occupying too much space.

The slightly matte finish texture on the chassis helps to hide fingerprints and smudges, keeping the laptop look pristine and classy all the time.

YOGA laptops were one of the first laptops in the market to feature a 180-degree retractable hinge mechanism.

The Slim 7 laptop continues that tradition and the hinges work well to deliver a satisfactory open and close lid operation.

Similar to the speaker placement on the Apple MacBook Pro, the Lenovo YOGA Slim 7 has a front-facing, side-mounted dual speaker certified with Dolby Atmos technology.

These speakers offer a very good audio experience when used indoors.

Last but not the least, this premium travel laptop features the latest Wi-Fi 6 card for superfast internet connectivity with minimal to no signal drop issues.

Connectivity Features:

The Lenovo YOGA Slim 7 features the following I/O ports:

  • 2 x USB Type-C ports
  • 2 x USB 3.2 ports
  • 1 x HDMI port
  • 1 x 3.5mm combo audio jack
  • MicroSD card reader

Processor and Performance

The Lenovo YOGA Slim 7 is powered by the fourth-generation AMD Ryzen 7 – 4800 octa-core processor with a base clock speed of 1.8GHz and a turbo boost up to 4.2GHz.

The 8GB DDR4 RAM onboard is clocked at 4266MHz and offers buttery smooth everyday performance as well as multitasking capabilities.

Speaking of graphics, the Lenovo YOGA Slim 7 packs an integrated AMD Radeon GPU inside to assist the processor.

The 512GB SSD inside makes sure the OS catches up with the hardware in terms of performance.

Display

The Lenovo YOGA Slim 7 features a 14-inch Full HD LED-backlit IPS display with a native resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels.

This panel has excellent colour reproduction. The colours look punchy and vivid, and thanks to the excellent dynamic range the visuals look appealing and aesthetically pleasing.

With a peak brightness level of 300 nits, the panel is good for indoor usage. Outdoor legibility is not the strong suit of this laptop so don’t expect anything spectacular in that regard.

While the top and bottom chin are a bit thicker, the side bezels remain narrow and slim, giving the laptop a modern and seamless design.

Miscellaneous

The Lenovo YOGA Slim 7 comes pre-installed with a Windows 10 Home OS. Additionally, you’ll get a pre-activated Microsoft Office 2019 suite with a lifetime license.

There is an IR camera on the top chin which will let you unlock the laptop with just your face, even in the dark.

Not just that, it is also usable for video conference and speaking for the quality, it does offer a good video quality in well-lit conditions.

The keyboard is a tenkeyless one and comes with backlit functionality. The keys have a decent travel distance and the typing experience is comfortable.

The trackpad is of decent quality and supports multi-finger gestures via the Microsoft precision drivers.

Battery Life

This Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 is powered by a 4-cell 60.7Wh lithium battery inside which lasts almost 7 to 8 hours of screen on time.

The 65W AC adapter supports rapid charge pro-technology which juices up the battery from 0-50% in just 30 minutes.

Verdict

The Lenovo YOGA Slim 7 is a lightweight and portable laptop that guarantees exceptional performance and long-lasting battery life.

This all-metal laptop is the affordable cousin of the expensive Macbook Pro, the major difference being the operating system.

9. Dell G5 15 SE

Dell G5 15 SE
Best Gaming Laptop
  • Powerful Radeon GPU
  • Decent FHD display
  • Rich connectivity options
BUY FROM FLIPKART

Pros

Full-size keyboard

Up to 6 hours of battery life

AMD Shift technology for improved performance

Cons

Average build quality

The G series of laptops from Dell comes as the successor to their very own Inspiron lineup but targets the performance laptops segment for both professionals and casual users.

The G5 15 SE is one of the new G series laptops from Dell priced at just Rs.74,990 in the Indian market.

Design and Build Quality

The Dell G5 15 SE like the name suggests is one of their special edition laptops.

In terms of build quality, the device is not that great. The plastics on the laptop are glossy and feel a bit cheap, even aesthetically the laptop does look a bit dated.

The lid of the laptop gets scratched easily which is a flaw.

Compared to most laptops on the list, the G5 SE looks a bit outdated, but this is a design choice by Dell so it isn’t a big concern unless you value looks over performance.

The G5 SE has a full-size keyboard including the number pad which means that the keys on the laptop are not going to be properly centred and might need some getting used to.

The keyboard has backlit lighting functionality and the keys have a single red colour backlight which is the only choice you get.

The thermals on the laptop are pretty decent. The exhaust vents are placed in the rear to expel hot air and the air intake vents in the bottom.

The dual fans on the laptop do a great job in terms of internal heat dissipation.

Connectivity Features:

The Dell G5 SE has the following I/O ports:

  • 2 x USB 2.0 ports
  • 1 x USB 3.2 port
  • 1 x USB-C port
  • 1 x HDMI port
  • RJ-45 LAN port
  • 3.5mm combo audio jack
  • 3-in-1 card reader

Processor and Performance

The G5 SE is powered by AMD’s Ryzen 5 4600H processor combined with the Radeon RX 5600M GPU.

The G5 15 SE uses AMD’s SmartShift technology which automatically distributes the power between the CPU and GPU so you get the most out of your laptop resulting in higher frame rates and reduced render times.

The RX 5600M has a dedicated 6GB GDDR6 VRAM which should be able to run most games in high settings without even breaking a sweat.

Talking about storage, the laptop comes with a 512GB SSD but you do get expansion slots to further upgrade the storage.

The laptop has 3200MHz of 8GB DDR4 RAM which can further be upgraded up to 32GB for future-proofing.

The KIller Gigabit Ethernet featured in the Dell G5 SE ensures fast data transfer speeds that reduce lag and latency for smooth online gameplay.

The Game Shift key on the laptop, when pressed, boosts up the performance of the laptop which kicks it into overdrive and gives you the maximum performance for your gaming needs.

The G5 SE has dual speakers that provide you with crisp and clear audio thanks to the Nahimic 3D audio tuning on the laptop.

The Alienware centre software on the laptop allows you to fine-tune your laptop and personalize it according to your gaming requirements for the best experience.

Display

The Dell G5 15 SE has a silky smooth 120Hz refresh rate. This allows you to play your favourite games at high frame rates and be immersed in the wondrous world of video games.

The display has a 1080p Full HD resolution with decent colour reproduction and contrast levels.

The anti-glare coating on the display also allows you to game for long periods without causing much strain on your eyes.

The IPS panel gives you a great viewing experience and rich colour tones, even at odd viewing angles.

The bezels on the laptop are considerably bigger than the ones we usually see in most modern gaming laptops but otherwise, it’s not something that would ruin your gaming experience.

Battery Life

The battery in the laptop is a 51WHr 3-cell lithium-ion battery which the company claims to last for up to 10 hours of screen on time.

Expect this machine to last for a maximum of 6 hours with regular usage.

Verdict

The Dell G5 15 SE is a great gaming laptop if you can overlook some of the flaws.

It has a powerful CPU and GPU but it’s not the most aesthetically pleasing laptop. If you are ready to sacrifice looks for power then the G5 15 SE is the right choice for you.

Cons

A little hefty

The Asus Vivobook S15 is one of the best affordable ultrabook laptops equipped with the latest generation Intel processor priced just shy of Rs.80,000.

Design and Build Quality

Minimalism is one of the key points of Vivobook series ultrabooks from Asus.
Asus Vivobook S15 has a textured finish on the lid and the Vivobook branding is placed on the left-centre.

Apart from the design, this machine weighs 1.8Kg which is heavy when compared with other Vivobooks models. However, with its compact form factor and 18mm thickness, this laptop fits easily inside the regular bags and backpacks without any problem.

The Vivobook S15, as expected features one of our beloved laptop design features – the ergo lift hinge.

Ergo life hinge mechanism lifts the keyboard deck from the surface a bit while opening up the display lid. Not only does this provide an angled keyboard but also leaves enough room for the vents at the bottom to suck-in more fresh air.

Connectivity Features

Asus Vivobook S15 features the following I/O ports:

  • 1 x USB 3.2 port
  • 1 x USB 2.0 port
  • 1 x USB Type-C (Thunderbolt 4)
  • 1 x HDMI port
  • 3.5mm combo audio jack
  • MicroSD card reader

Processor and Performance

What runs the show on Asus Vivobook S15 is the latest Intel i5 eleventh-generation quad-core processor with a max clock speed of 4.2GHz.

Alongside the CPU, Asus has also provided the entry-level Nvidia GeForce MX350 GPU with 2GB of dedicated VRAM.

Yes, you can run certain modern games on this laptop but with low – medium graphics settings.

The onboard 8GB DDR4 RAM is clocked at 3200MHz. It handles multitasking with ease and you won’t face any lag or stutter while dealing with everyday computing tasks, no matter what.

In terms of storage, this laptop has 512GB PCIe Nvme SSD that has incredible read and write speeds which helps to have an overall lightning-fast computing experience.

Display

Asus Vivobook S15 comes with a 14-inch Full HD LED-backlit anti-glare display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels.

The bezels on the sides are 5.2mm thin and the display has 88% screen to body ratio. Consuming media on this panel is always a delightful experience without a doubt.

This panel with full HD resolution accounts for the sharp and detailed visuals and text. The colours appear bright and vivid and the dynamic range is good as well.

Similar to many other laptops in this segment, the Asus Vivobook S15 has an anti-glare coating on top of the display to limit the light reflections and improve readability.

Miscellaneous

The Asus Vivobook S15 comes pre-installed with a Windows 10 Home OS. Along with this, Asus has also included a lifetime license of MS Office Home/Student 2019 suite with this laptop.

The keyboard on this machine is a full-sized one with a dedicated number pad. The keys are well spaced and offer a comfortable typing experience.

One surprising feature of this laptop is that it does feature IR face unlock, which was until now reserved for the elite-class Zenbook series laptops.

Trackpad

The trackpad on the Asus Vivobook S15 is no ordinary plastic touchpad.

The trackpad here doubles up as a secondary display. It is a 5.65-inch Full HD+ Super IPS display with a resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels.

Asus calls this feature the screen pad. It behaves like a smartphone touch screen where you can access shortcuts or your most frequent apps easily.

This screen pad is loaded with various features such as app switcher, mode switch, app navigator, task group, handwriting, and more.

Battery Life

Asus Vivobook S15 is powered by a 3-cell 42Wh lithium battery which lasts for up to 6 hours on constant use with moderate display brightness.

The included 65W Type-C charging adapter supports fast charging and can juice up the battery from 0-60% in just 50 minutes.

Verdict

Asus Vivobook S15 is a brilliant laptop in terms of performance and design. Under a budget of Rs.80,000, Asus provides almost everything that you can expect from a premium ultrabook.

Buying Guide For The Best Laptop Under Rs.80,000

With the tight competition for market share happening in between rival brands, the customers are the ones who hit the real jackpot.

Nowadays you can get hold of a powerful portable machine that can do hardcore stuff such as intense gaming, content creation works and much more for a budget of just Rs.80,000.

However, the downside is that there are a lot of models available at present and it’s a daunting task to pick the right choice among them.

With this short and simple buying guide, we at Bettershark will list out a few important points that one should consider while making a purchase decision for a laptop under Rs.80,000.

Build Quality

As you’re paying a premium of Rs.80,000 for a laptop, you must make sure that the build quality is robust and solid.

Most if not all notebooks/ultrabooks in this price range come with all-metal aluminium chassis. Metal chassis are more durable and premium than the plastic counterparts. These metal laptops look way too stylish compared to their plastic counterparts as well.

With those machines featuring a plastic chassis, you must ensure that the fit and finish is excellent and with no noticeable body flex anywhere.

Most companies use high-quality polycarbonate materials at this price point but it is always good to confirm before purchasing.

CPU/Processor

The CPU as you all might know is the brain of the computer. How fast a computer can perform depends largely on processor power.

For a budget under Rs.80,000, the latest CPU you can get hold of is the eleventh generation Intel and fourth-generation AMD Ryzen series processors.

Both these processors are equally powerful and can run almost anything you throw at them with relative ease.

Before zeroing in on the CPU, you should take a look at the clock speeds. Higher the clock speed, better will be the performance while dealing with resource-intensive apps.

If you are into gaming and video editing, make sure that you go for the H series processors from both Intel and AMD as they are significantly faster than the U series processors.

Tenth generation H series processors from Intel performs just fine with a dedicated GPU inside if at all eleventh gen processor powered laptops are hard to find.

To run designing and drawing apps such as AutoCAD, the power of the CPU matters more than the GPU. You can run AutoCAD on a laptop without a dedicated GPU, given the processor is powerful.

GPU

GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) is a standalone processor dealing with graphics-related tasks.

The presence of a dedicated GPU takes off the load from the CPU and does the complex graphics processing much faster and efficiently.

If you are planning to purchase a laptop priced under Rs.80,000 for gaming and video editing, it is necessary to have a powerful GPU alongside the processor.

At this budget, having an Nvidia GTX 1650Ti or AMD Radeon 5600M is desirable. There are certain lightweight notebooks with Nvidia’s MX series entry-level dedicated GPUs which are powerful enough to do casual gaming but having a GTX series GPU will let you do much more.

Display

You are guaranteed to have a display with Full HD resolution in a laptop priced under Rs.80,000.

The colour reproduction and the dynamic range are expected to be top-notch for lifelike visuals.

You can either go for a 15.6-inch or 14-inch display depending on your preference. If you want your laptop to be lightweight, it’s better to go with 14-inch panels whereas if you are not willing to compromise on the size, 15.6-inch might be the best choice.

There are certain machines with 17.3-inch displays available, but we think they are too big and bulky to be carried around in the backpack.

The brightness level is one other thing you should take into consideration. Higher peak brightness means the maximum level of brightness the display can attain. The higher it is, the better will be the legibility.

Now comes the refresh rate. The refresh rate is the number of times the display refreshes to update the visuals. Higher refresh rate generally means smooth, fluid visuals.

For a budget under Rs.80,000, you can get high refresh rate displays as high as 144Hz.

If you game a lot or binge-watch movies/series a lot, you should consider getting a laptop with a high refresh rate.

RAM

Every laptop in the price segment of Rs.80,000 comes with a minimum of 8GB DDR4 RAM which is sufficient for a casual user.

The provision for RAM expansion is a must if you are a hardcore gamer or a content creation enthusiast.

This will let you enhance the performance of the laptop, keeping it future proof for a long time to come.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q.1: What is Optane Memory in a laptop?

Ans. Optane memory acts like an SSD to the cache storage. It acts as an extended RAM and keeps more apps in memory which will, in turn, load up faster than ever.

Q.2: Which Windows Hello login is better – IR webcam or fingerprint?

  1. Hi team better shark. My requirement is that I am a guy who wants to learn UI UX design. And the tools used in that are Adobe Photoshop, Adobe after effects, Adobe illustrator, Invision studio, Adobe XD. I don’t want to have a bulky laptop(since my old i3 2nd gen laptop weighs nearly 2.3kg). I want a light machine which weighs no more than 1.5kg. A 14″ screen is enough for me. Please recommend a good laptop in which I can use those tools easily and the laptop should be future proof.

    • Hi Dheeraj!

Going through your requirements, we feel that the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 (Link – https://amzn.to/3cYgAMX)will be an ideal choice for your work. This laptop is powered by the AMD Ryzen 7 series processor which is plenty powerful to deal with productivity tasks such as UI/UX design. If you want an Intel powered machine, the Dell Inspiron 5409 (Link – https://amzn.to/2SOdaWk) is also a good choice for a budget under Rs.80,000.

      • Is acer swift 3x i5 11th gen or yoga slim 7 amd version a better choice? Acer swift 3x is priced at 68k on flipkart(not gonna opt for Amazon because the reviews on Amazon are not good. Seems like an issue with the seller). Yoga slim 7 is an excellent laptop. But I am little worried that it has no dedicated GPU nor ram upgradability… I can’t find a 16gb ram variant for slim 7. But on lenovo official website, when I apply coupon codes, the final price is 66k for slim 7. Which among them is a better pick? Please do let me know if the 8gb ram on slim 7 is gonna be future proof as I will be keeping the laptop for nearly 5 years.

      • Hi Dheeraj!

If you’re planning to use the laptop for 3+ years in to the future, we’ll recommend you to purchase a laptop with a dedicated graphics card to make sure every design/illustration/photo editing applications work fine. Even though purchasing a laptop with integrated graphics is adequate, it is not wise to think that the same configuration will remain relevant in the future with the added features and newer app updates that might require high performance internals to process.
