The Micro-Star International a.k.a MSI is a Taiwan-based computer hardware manufacturer manufacturing powerful notebooks, ultrabooks, and gaming laptops.

It’s quite surprising to see MSI Prestige 14 retailing at this price. This laptop is perfect for business and productivity use.

Design and Build Quality

When we looked at this machine for the first time, we thought it’s a premium reincarnation of Honor MagicBook 15 which was a huge hit last year.

Why did we say that? Well, it has the same blue chamfered edges, aluminium chassis, and superior finishing all over the body.

The chassis of the MSI Prestige 14 is forged from thin aluminium and as a result, the machine feels very premium and lightweight.

Since the chassis is so thin you will notice some minor flex on the lid surface which is acceptable.

Weighing at just 1.29Kg, this laptop is very lightweight and easy to carry around in bags and backpacks.

This laptop also features an ergo lift hinge mechanism which raises the keyboard deck from the ground to provide the user with a comfortable typing posture.

Raising the deck creates a big headroom for the air to travel inside which is good as the machine will remain cool most of the time.

Connectivity Features:

The MSI Prestige 14 features the following I/O ports:

  • 2 x USB-C ports (Thunderbolt 4)
  • 1 x USB 2.0 port
  • MicroSD card reader
  • 3.5mm combo audio jack

Processor and Performance

The showrunner of the MSI Prestige 14 is the Intel i5 11th generation quad-core processor with a turbo clock speed of 4.2GHz.

This laptop has managed to earn that badge of Intel EVO which is given exclusively to a laptop that passed several tests from Intel which includes performance and battery life tests.

The 16GB LPDDR4X RAM on board is more than sufficient to do intense multitasking, still, MSI has offered RAM expansion provision up to 32GB.

The machine includes a 512GB SSD that has tremendous read and write speeds resulting in a quick system boot up and fast application loading.

The Intel integrated Iris Xe GPU assists the CPU handle graphic-intensive tasks. Since the machine is designed for working purposes, the lack of a dedicated GPU does not feel like a deal-breaker.

Display

The MSI Prestige 14 sports a 14-inch Full HD IPS display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels.

If you are looking for a machine to edit high-quality photos then go for this laptop as the panel has a 100% sRGB of colour gamut.

That being said, the visuals look vivid and punchy. Also, thanks to the IPS technology, the viewing angles are great too.

This wide viewing display is excellent for work as well as for media consumption.

Miscellaneous

The MSI Prestige 14 comes pre-installed with the Windows 10 Home operating system.

The tenkeyless backlit keyboard on the deck has fairly large-sized keys with minimal vertical travel distance that offers a soft typing experience.

The trackpad is very broad and the area for the palm rest is minimal. This trackpad registers multi-finger gestures flawlessly.

The trackpad has a shining blue border that adds to the laptop’s overall aesthetics. Also inside the trackpad, there is a fingerprint sensor offering quick and secure login access to the system.

If the fingerprint is not your liking you can use face recognition as well. The camera at the display top chin is an IR HD webcam that offers excellent video output on facetime calls.

Battery Life

The MSI Prestige 14 is powered by a 3-cell 52Wh lithium battery that offers power backup for up to 6 hours on a full charge.

The 65W bundled charger will help juice up the battery life from 0 – 100% in 2 hours.

Verdict

The MSI Prestige 14 is one of the best mid-range premium ultrabooks at the price of Rs.79,990.

This Intel EVO certified laptop offers excellent performance and battery life. If you are running a business and need a powerful laptop then this is the right one for you.

Pros

Cons

Limited I/O connectivity

The Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi is known for providing feature-rich smartphones and accessories at an affordable price.

The Mi Notebook Ultra is a well-built laptop that comes with a high-quality display and hardware for a budget under Rs.80,000.

Design and Build Quality

The shell of the Mi Notebook Ultra is forged from aluminium and the lid surface has a sandblasted finish.

The polished body of the Mi Notebook Ultra has gone through several machining processes which makes it look premium but the choice of dull colour does make this laptop a bit less aesthetically pleasing.

Well, the taste of design and looks might be different in your case so we leave that part up to you.

The lid can be lifted with one hand and the robust hinge mechanism ensures that the lid will not wobble that easily under a speedy ceiling fan.

Being a 15-inch machine, this laptop weighs 1.7Kg which is acceptable and portability will not be an issue.

The dome-shaped rubber feet at the bottom keep the laptop firm on a flat surface.

To keep the internal temperature in check, the atmospheric air draws inside from the bottom grille and the heat dissipates through the rear side vents.

This grille has a slightly larger cut which allows it to draw more air at once and the single fan inside dissipates the heat through the rear side.

Connectivity Features:

The Mi Notebook Ultra features the following I/O ports:

  • 1 x USB 3.2 port
  • 1 x USB-C port (Normal)
  • 1 x USB-C port/Thunderbolt 4
  • 3.5mm combo audio jack

Processor and Performance

The CPU inside the MI Notebook Ultra is the latest H-series Intel i7 11th generation quad-core processor with a turbo clock speed of 4.8GHz.

The 16GB RAM onboard clocked at 3200MHz has enough power to handle multitasking and you finish your every day without facing any sort of lag.

Coming to the storage option, this laptop is assembled with a 512GB SSD that has excellent read and write speeds.

As a result, the OS will load faster, app loading time is minimal and data transfer speeds are incredible.

The Intel integrated Iris Xe GPU helps the CPU with the graphic processing and you can enjoy light to medium games without any issues.

Display

The Mi Notebook Ultra has undoubtedly the best display in this price segment.

This laptop features a 15.6-inch 3.2K 90Hz IPS display with a resolution of 3200 x 2000 pixels and an aspect ratio of 16:10.

The bezels are minimal on the sides which helps achieve almost 90% of the screen to body ratio and the big display is always satisfying for media consumption.

We are astonished by the display quality as the resolution you see at this price is not just any marketing gimmick, the visuals are sharp and clear.

The visuals are vivid as well because the panel has a 100% of the sRGB wide colour gamut. This panel is perfect for photo editors and light video editing.

Miscellaneous

As for the OS, you will get the Windows 10 Home. However, Mi has stated that Windows 11 will be available for this device in the future.

The tenkeyless backlit keyboard with a scissor mechanism has a key travel distance of 1.5mm which offers tactile feedback on typing.

The power button of this laptop also doubles up as a fingerprint scanner for quick login.

The trackpad is positioned in the center and is quite big so your finger will easily reach and it supports multi-finger gestures flawlessly.

The 720p webcam at the top chin of the display is not the best in class but under good lighting conditions, you will get a decent video quality.

Battery Life

The brand has not mentioned the exact size of the battery but they do claim a backup of 12 hours which is not possible, to be honest.

Considering the high-quality panel and other hardware of this laptop the battery will last for up to 5 hours on normal to intense use.

The 65W USB-C power adapter will juice up the laptop battery levels up to 50% in 45 minutes and for the full charge, the time will be around 2 – 2:15 hours.

Verdict

The Mi Notebook Ultra is no rookie in the market anymore and with a specification like this, it can easily beat the other ultrabooks that fall under the price segment of Rs.80,000.

Do we recommend it to you guys? Well of course we do and to be specific, this laptop is more suitable for working professionals and media enthusiasts.

Pros

Windows Hello login support

Good video quality from webcam

Extremely lightweight

Cons

Noticeable body flex

Back in the day, LG was only known for making TVs and refrigerators. These days the brand is also manufacturing some awesome laptops that are productivity-centric and offer good specifications for the asking price.

The 2021 iteration of LG Gram 14 packs new hardware and few improvements compared to its predecessor so let’s see what this laptop has to offer for the price of Rs.74,999.

Design and Build Quality

The ultra-lightweight chassis of this laptop is forged from magnesium alloy and you will be surprised to know that this 14-inch machine weighs just 999 grams.

Thanks to this lightweight form factor, it is easy to carry this around but the issue is that the body has noticeable flex on the lid and the keyboard deck. This happens because of the thin chassis material, however, it is durable but avoid putting weight on the laptop or applying force by hand.

Speaking of its design, this laptop looks way more premium than any other Windows laptop. It has a smooth finish on the lid and there is the Gram branding at the center of the lid.

The chassis has an air intake grille at the bottom and the hot air escapes the chassis through the exhausts in the rear.

Connectivity Features:

The LG Gram 14 features the following I/O ports:

  • 2 x USB-C ports/Thunderbolt 4
  • 2 x USB 3.2 ports
  • 1 x HDMI port
  • 3.5mm combo audio jack
  • MicroSD card reader

Processor and Performance

The LG Gram 14 is powered by the Intel i5 11th generation quad-core processor with a turbo clock speed of 4.2GHz.

This chipset is capable of delivering a breakneck performance but what’s more exciting is the Intel Evo certification. This badge is given to the laptop only that meets certain requirements of the Intel Evo program which includes intense multitasking and battery life tests.

That being said, you don’t have to worry about lag or stutter – you can open 40 tabs on Chrome and still won’t encounter any hiccups.

To run your programs blazingly fast there is the 8GB DDR4 RAM rated at 4266MHz.

As mentioned earlier, this is a productivity laptop so don’t expect exceptional performance in terms of gaming because it comes with the Intel integrated Iris Xe GPU.

Regarding the storage facility, you will get a 512GB SSD that is significantly faster compared to a conventional HDD. The advantage of having an SSD is that it will load the operating system in mere 15 seconds or less and also load your programs faster.

Display

The LG Gram 14 features a 14-inch WUXGA IPS display with a resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels.

This thin bezel panel comes with an aspect ratio of 16:10 meaning you will have a great multimedia experience.

Furthermore, the panel has 99% of DCI-P3 so the colour of visuals will be more natural and punchy.

You can do professional photo and video editing on this panel without worrying about the colour accuracy of the visuals.

This is an IPS panel so viewing angles are good up to 178-degree. Talking about its usability, the display is bright enough for most lighting environments.

Miscellaneous

The LG Gram 14 comes pre-installed with the Windows 10 Home OS.

The keycaps of the tenkeyless keyboard are slightly larger than its predecessor and key travel is also increased from 1.5 to 1.65mm.

This is a backlit-enabled keyboard so you can work at night effectively.

The power key of this laptop doubles up as a fingerprint scanner and it works with the Windows Hello login.

The webcam of this laptop is surprisingly providing good video quality when you sit in a bright room.

The trackpad is of standard size and quality – it supports multi-finger gestures like a champ.

Battery Life

One of the key selling points of this laptop is its battery life. The LG Gram 14 is powered by a 4-cell 72Wh lithium battery that will provide up to 9 hours of battery life on normal to intense use.

The bundled 65W charger from LG takes almost 3 hours to juice up the battery levels from zero to full.

Verdict

The LG Gram 14 is for constant travellers and intense multitaskers who need to do more work without finding power outlets everywhere.

Under the price of Rs.80,000, the LG Gram 14 is an excellent value for money laptop.

The Ideapad lineup from Lenovo is one of the most popular budget-midrange laptop series in the Indian market.

The Lenovo Ideapad Slim 5 is a 15-inch laptop powered by the latest AMD processor priced well under Rs.80,000.

Design and Build Quality

The Lenovo Ideapad Slim 5 is built using two types of materials. The lid part is aluminium and the base chassis is forged from plastic.

The design is pretty much similar to its Intel-powered variant so there’s nothing extra to blab about.

Weighing at 1.66Kg, the machine is slightly on the heavier side.

The hinge mechanism delivers a smooth motion when you open/close the lid and also prevents shakiness when using the machine under a speedy ceiling fan.

The speaker grille placement reminds us of HP laptops. This front-facing speaker produces crisp quality vocals but the loudness is okay and the bass is not that vibrant.

The easy solution is to use a pair of good earphones or external speakers if you have any.

Talking about its thermal performance, the laptop has a single fan inside blowing the heat out from the rear vents to minimize the temperature on internal components.

Connectivity Features:

The Lenovo Ideapad Slim 5 features the following I/O ports:

  • 2 x USB 3.2 ports
  • 1 x USB-C port (Power Delivery and Display Port)
  • 1 x HDMI port
  • MicroSD card reader
  • 3.5mm combo audio jack

Processor and Performance

The CPU inside the Lenovo Ideapad Slim 5 is the fifth generation AMD Ryzen 7 – 5700U octa-core processor with a base clock speed of 1.8GHz and its turbo boost up to 4.3GHz.

This power-efficient chipset offers exceptional multicore performance and easily beats the premium Intel i7 processor.

The 16GB DDR4 RAM on the motherboard handles all your ongoing tasks without a hitch and you can multitask without breaking a sweat.

In regards to storage, the laptop comes with a 512GB SSD that offers plenty of space to store files offline.

Apart from being a storage module, it also elevates the laptop performance by speeding up the process of system boot up and application loading time.

The AMD Radeon integrated graphics assist the CPU to handle graphic-intensive tasks.

Display

The Lenovo Ideapad Slim 5 sports a 15.6-inch Full HD anti-glare IPS display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels.

The display has a peak brightness of 300 nits that is adequate for indoor use but outdoor usability is bad.

The colour reproduction is good and there is no negative effect in visual when viewing from the side, thanks to the IPS technology.

The anti-glare coating on the display will block the light reflection and help reduce the eye strain so you can work effectively for hours.

Bezels on the sides are thin, making this panel look bigger than its actual size, and watching movies on this panel is a joyful experience.

Miscellaneous

The Lenovo Ideapad Slim 5 comes pre-installed with the Windows 10 Home OS and also features a fully licensed version of MS Home and Office 2019.

The full-sized white backlit keyboard has curved-shaped keys that offer good typing feedback and you can work hassle-free in the low lit environment by enabling the backlighting.

Thankfully, Lenovo didn’t step back on providing the Windows Hello login facility. The fingerprint sensor is embedded in the power button for secure login.

The asymmetrically positioned trackpad supports multi-finger gestures correctly.

The HD webcam on the display top chin delivers a decent video quality output and it also has a physical shutter so your privacy is protected while you are not using the webcam.

Battery Life

The Lenovo Ideapad Slim 5 is powered by the 57Wh lithium-polymer battery that gives power backup for up to 6 to 7 hours on continuous use.

The bundled 65W power adapter recharges the battery percentage from 0-100% in 2 to 2:30 hours.

Verdict

This Lenovo laptop is one of the best multitasking laptops for working professionals and travellers for a budget under Rs.80,000.

It includes strong hardware and the shell is also made out of good quality materials so for its asking price we think it’s the best notebook laptop you can buy.

Asus is a Taiwanese brand that is quite popular for its laptops and smartphones all over the world.

The Zenbook 13 is a compact and lightweight laptop designed for working professionals priced at Rs.74,990.

Design and Build Quality

Right from the beginning, the Zenbook series laptop comes with an all-metal chassis and the Asus Zenbook13 is no exception.

It has a spun-metal finish on the lid and you can also find the eye-catching Asus logo.

Asus has left no stone unturned while building this laptop the build quality is on par and the design is simply outstanding.

This is a 13-inch laptop and it weighs 1.14Kg, making it easier for the user to travel with it. Thanks to its reduced form factor, the machine fits comfortably inside standard handbags and backpacks.

The hinge mechanism holds the lid steadily when you set it at your preferable position.

Connectivity Features:

The Asus Zenbook 13 features the following I/O ports:

  • 2 x USB-C ports/Thunderbolt 4
  • 1 x USB 3.2 port
  • 1 x HDMI port
  • MicroSD card reader

Surprisingly, this laptop does feature an audio jack. You can either use the given converter that is USB-C to audio jack for wired audio connectivity.

Processor and Performance

This compact laptop from LG comes with the newest generation Intel chip i.e. Intel i5 11th generation quad-core processor with a turbo clock frequency of 4.2GHz.

This powerful processor is paired with the high-speed 8GB LPDDR4x RAM that is clocked at 4267MHz that offers spectacular performance on everyday tasks and multitasking.

We love the performance of this laptop and, in your everyday use you will barely notice any lag or stutter.

The 512GB PCIe NVMe SSD provides insanely fast system boot up and app opening.

For business users and working professionals, this storage should be enough and if not then do prefer investing in a microSD card as it has a dedicated slot for it.

The Intel integrated Iris Xe GPU assists the processor with graphics-related tasks and you can play some light games in your free time.

Display

The Asus Zenbook 13 sports a 13.3-inch Full HD OLED IPS display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels.

An OLED panel on a laptop is like a dream come true because compared to any other panel this one has a rich contrast ratio, blacks are inky deep and visuals look punchy.

You can edit your photos and videos on this panel without plugging into an external display.

With the peak brightness of 400 nits, the panel visuals are visible enough in most use cases.

The only drawback we find is that it does not come with the anti-glare coating so if the panel is faced towards a direct light source then you will struggle to notice the visuals on this panel.

For media consumption, and work this narrow bezel display is perfect.

Miscellaneous

The Asus Zenbook 13 comes pre-installed with the Windows 10 Home OS and it will get Windows 11 OS update very soon.

The C-deck houses an edge-to-edge tenkeyless backlit keyboard. The keys are excellently spaced out and the 1.4mm of key travel provides clicky feedback without producing much noise.

The precision trackpad supports multi-finger gestures. Inside the trackpad, there is an icon at the top right corner and if you press it, you will see an illuminated number pad.

It’s a useful feature as you can insert the number data more swiftly and precisely.

The laptop comes with the IR HD webcam and it works with the Windows Hello login so you can set up face recognition for secure and easy login.

Battery Life

The Asus Zenbook 13 is powered by the 4-cell 67Wh lithium battery and is rated to last up to 8 hours on everyday use on a single charge.

The bundled 65W power adapter will juice up the battery levels from zero to full in 2:30 hours.

Verdict

The Asus Zenbook 13 is a well-built compact laptop that offers great performance and battery life.

If you need a portable and performance-oriented laptop then Zenbook 13 is the one you need.

Cons

Bland design

Lenovo is a Chinese brand that manufactures a wide range of consumer electronics products and their laptops are one of the most popular ones in the Indian market.

The Lenovo Ideapad Gaming 3 is a versatile laptop that can be used for gaming as well as for work. For a budget well under Rs.80,000, let’s find out what this laptop has to offer.

Design and Build Quality

The Lenovo Ideapad Gaming 3 features a unibody plastic chassis that has minor flex here and there but is durable enough and can last longer if used with care.

The lid has a matte finish and there’s a minor Lenovo branding on the side. In terms of looks, Lenovo hasn’t done much and this machine looks just like an ordinary laptop.

However, this minimal looking gaming laptop weighs 2.25Kg which is normal for a 15-inch gaming machine.

The hinge mechanism works like a charm and there’s no creaking sound while opening or closing the lid.

Lenovo has provided sufficient vents for heat dissipation to avoid any overheating issues. If you are performing intensive tasks then you will hear the fan noise sometimes.

Connectivity Features:

The Lenovo Ideapad Gaming 3 comes with the following I/O ports:

  • 2 x USB 3.2 ports
  • 1 x USB-C port
  • 1 x HDMI port
  • RJ-45 LAN port
  • 3.5mm combo audio jack

Processor and Performance

The Lenovo Ideapad Gaming 3 is equipped with the Intel i5 11th generation quad-core processor with a turbo clock speed of 4.4GHz.

This CPU is paired with the 4GB DDR6 Nvidia GeForce RTX 3050 dedicated GPU for exceptional graphics performance.

Together, they offer excellent gaming and multitasking performance. You will be able to run AAA title games without facing much lag or stutter.

The Ideapad Gaming 3 laptop has 8GB DDR4 RAM on board with an additional slot to increase the RAM up to 16GB.

Speaking of storage, the 512GB SSD is adequate for most users. This ultra-fast SSD elevates the overall performance to a whole new level.

Display

The Lenovo Ideapad Gaming 3 features a 15.6-inch 120Hz Full HD anti-glare IPS display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels.

The bezels on the sides are thin which makes this panel look bigger and ideal for media consumption.

The colour and contrast of this display are good. Thanks to the IPS technology, it provides excellent viewing angles.

With the peak brightness of 250 nits, you will be able to see the visuals indoors.

Miscellaneous

The Lenovo Ideapad Gaming 3 comes pre-installed with the Windows 10 OS and Lenovo has said that the update for Windows 11 OS will be available soon for this machine.

The full-sized white backlit keyboard on the deck provides good typing feedback but it would be more appropriate if it had RGB backlighting.

The trackpad is fairly big so your fingers will easily reach it and it supports multi-finger gestures input correctly.

The dual stereo speakers of this laptop produce decent quality sound but we advise using proper headphones for a great gaming experience.

Battery Life

The Lenovo Ideapad Gaming 3 is powered by a 45Wh lithium battery that will provide 4-5 hours of battery life on a full charge.

The bundled 170W power brick will help juice up the battery from 0 – 100% in 2:30 hours.

Verdict

The Lenovo Ideapad Gaming 3 is a great value for money laptop for people who want a versatile machine for work and play.

For a budget under Rs.80,000, this gaming laptop offers excellent performance justifying its price tag.

  • Big display with FHD resolution
  • Aesthetically pleasing design
BUY FROM AMAZON

Pros

Decent build quality

Good battery backup

Genuine Windows 10 OS

Cons

Bulky

HP is one of the top contenders in the laptop market that competes against the brands such as Asus, Lenovo, and Acer.

The HP Victus is a completely new series recently launched in India and the laptop we have here has powerful internal hardware that promises to deliver a smooth computing performance.

Design and Build Quality

The design of the HP Victus reminds us of the HP Omen series laptop.

The HP Victus is made solely from plastic and the flex on the lid cover is a bit more noticeable than usual, though the build quality is decent.

The V logo in the center of the lid and the matte top surface makes this machine look aesthetically pleasing.

If you consider the hardware specifications, this laptop is a gaming machine but aesthetics tells a different story. No sign in the design shows that this machine is a gaming laptop.

Since we are talking about video editing laptops the looks will not be a deal-breaker. The hinge is a bit loose on this one and the lid wobbles when working under a speedy fan.

Weighing at 2.48Kg, the HP Victus is said to be very heavy, and carrying it on the shoulder will be a tad bit difficult.

Thermals are where we are disappointed the most. At the bottom side of the unit, it looks like it has so much space for air intake but if you look closely you discover that it only has cuts where the fan is placed as a result CPU temperature goes up to 100 celsius even while playing games like Valorant.

We recommend using an external cooling pad for better thermal performance.

Connectivity Features:

The HP Victus features the following I/O ports:

  • 3 x USB 3.0 ports
  • 1 x USB-C port
  • 1 x HDMI port
  • RJ-45 LAN port
  • SD card reader
  • 3.5mm combo audio jack

Processor and Performance

The HP Victus comes equipped with the fifth generation AMD Ryzen 5 – 5600H hexa-core processor with a base clock speed of 3.3GHz and its turbo boost up to 4.2GHz.

The laptop has 8GB DDR4 RAM that can easily run day to day tasks and multitasking.

You can extend the RAM capacity up to 32GB for having a more buttery smooth performance.

The 4GB DDR6 Nvidia GeForce RTX 3050 is a dedicated GPU alongside the CPU that offers you a smooth gaming experience.

Speaking of the storage, there is a 512GB SSD which accelerates the system boot up process and app loading time is minimal.

Thankfully, there is another slot for SSD expansion and you can increase the storage capacity up to 4TB.

Display

The HP Victus features a 16.1-inch Full HD anti-glare IPS display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels.

This panel has thin bezels and thanks to its slightly large form factor, the media consumption and gaming experience is pleasant and immersive

This display has only a 60Hz refresh rate which is a bit disappointing but for editing purposes, it doesn’t matter much.

The colour reproduction of this panel is good and the side viewing angles are good as well, thanks to the IPS technology.

Miscellaneous

The HP Victus comes pre-installed with the Windows 10 Home OS.

Buying Guide For The Best Laptop Under Rs.80,000

With the tight competition for market share happening in between rival brands, the customers are the ones who hit the real jackpot.

Nowadays you can get hold of a powerful portable machine that can do hardcore stuff such as intense gaming, content creation works and much more for a budget of just Rs.80,000.

However, the downside is that there are a lot of models available at present and it’s a daunting task to pick the right choice among them.

With this short and simple buying guide, we at Bettershark will list out a few important points that one should consider while making a purchase decision for a laptop under Rs.80,000.

Build Quality

As you’re paying a premium of Rs.80,000 for a laptop, you must make sure that the build quality is robust and solid.

Most if not all notebooks/ultrabooks in this price range come with all-metal aluminium chassis. Metal chassis are more durable and premium than the plastic counterparts. These metal laptops look way too stylish compared to their plastic counterparts as well.

With those machines featuring a plastic chassis, you must ensure that the fit and finish is excellent and with no noticeable body flex anywhere.

Most companies use high-quality polycarbonate materials at this price point but it is always good to confirm before purchasing.

CPU/Processor

The CPU as you all might know is the brain of the computer. How fast a computer can perform depends largely on processor power.

For a budget under Rs.80,000, the latest CPU you can get hold of is the eleventh generation Intel and fourth-generation AMD Ryzen series processors.

Both these processors are equally powerful and can run almost anything you throw at them with relative ease.

Before zeroing in on the CPU, you should take a look at the clock speeds. Higher the clock speed, better will be the performance while dealing with resource-intensive apps.

If you are into gaming and video editing, make sure that you go for the H series processors from both Intel and AMD as they are significantly faster than the U series processors.

Tenth generation H series processors from Intel performs just fine with a dedicated GPU inside if at all eleventh gen processor powered laptops are hard to find.

To run designing and drawing apps such as AutoCAD, the power of the CPU matters more than the GPU. You can run AutoCAD on a laptop without a dedicated GPU, given the processor is powerful.

GPU

GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) is a standalone processor dealing with graphics-related tasks.

The presence of a dedicated GPU takes off the load from the CPU and does the complex graphics processing much faster and efficiently.

If you are planning to purchase a laptop priced under Rs.80,000 for gaming and video editing, it is necessary to have a powerful GPU alongside the processor.

At this budget, having an Nvidia GTX 1650Ti or AMD Radeon 5600M is desirable. There are certain lightweight notebooks with Nvidia’s MX series entry-level dedicated GPUs which are powerful enough to do casual gaming but having a GTX series GPU will let you do much more.

Display

You are guaranteed to have a display with Full HD resolution in a laptop priced under Rs.80,000.

The colour reproduction and the dynamic range are expected to be top-notch for lifelike visuals.

You can either go for a 15.6-inch or 14-inch display depending on your preference. If you want your laptop to be lightweight, it’s better to go with 14-inch panels whereas if you are not willing to compromise on the size, 15.6-inch might be the best choice.

There are certain machines with 17.3-inch displays available, but we think they are too big and bulky to be carried around in the backpack.

The brightness level is one other thing you should take into consideration. Higher peak brightness means the maximum level of brightness the display can attain. The higher it is, the better will be the legibility.

Now comes the refresh rate. The refresh rate is the number of times the display refreshes to update the visuals. Higher refresh rate generally means smooth, fluid visuals.

For a budget under Rs.80,000, you can get high refresh rate displays as high as 144Hz.

If you game a lot or binge-watch movies/series a lot, you should consider getting a laptop with a high refresh rate.

RAM

Every laptop in the price segment of Rs.80,000 comes with a minimum of 8GB DDR4 RAM which is sufficient for a casual user.

The provision for RAM expansion is a must if you are a hardcore gamer or a content creation enthusiast.

This will let you enhance the performance of the laptop, keeping it future proof for a long time to come.

    • Hi Rahul!

The TUF series laptops from Asus cater to budget gamers where as the ROG is designed specifically for gaming. If both laptops have similar specs on sheet and retails at the same price, we’d suggest you to go for the ROG laptop. And to answer you second question, yes it is safe to order from Flipkart but make sure the seller is trustworthy by checking the ratings and reviews from those who have previously brought products from them.

  2. Hi team better shark. My requirement is that I am a guy who wants to learn UI UX design. And the tools used in that are Adobe Photoshop, Adobe after effects, Adobe illustrator, Invision studio, Adobe XD. I don’t want to have a bulky laptop(since my old i3 2nd gen laptop weighs nearly 2.3kg). I want a light machine which weighs no more than 1.5kg. A 14″ screen is enough for me. Please recommend a good laptop in which I can use those tools easily and the laptop should be future proof.

    • Hi Dheeraj!

Going through your requirements, we feel that the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 (Link – https://amzn.to/3cYgAMX)will be an ideal choice for your work. This laptop is powered by the AMD Ryzen 7 series processor which is plenty powerful to deal with productivity tasks such as UI/UX design. If you want an Intel powered machine, the Dell Inspiron 5409 (Link – https://amzn.to/2SOdaWk) is also a good choice for a budget under Rs.80,000.

      • Is acer swift 3x i5 11th gen or yoga slim 7 amd version a better choice? Acer swift 3x is priced at 68k on flipkart(not gonna opt for Amazon because the reviews on Amazon are not good. Seems like an issue with the seller). Yoga slim 7 is an excellent laptop. But I am little worried that it has no dedicated GPU nor ram upgradability… I can’t find a 16gb ram variant for slim 7. But on lenovo official website, when I apply coupon codes, the final price is 66k for slim 7. Which among them is a better pick? Please do let me know if the 8gb ram on slim 7 is gonna be future proof as I will be keeping the laptop for nearly 5 years.

      • Hi Dheeraj!

If you’re planning to use the laptop for 3+ years in to the future, we’ll recommend you to purchase a laptop with a dedicated graphics card to make sure every design/illustration/photo editing applications work fine. Even though purchasing a laptop with integrated graphics is adequate, it is not wise to think that the same configuration will remain relevant in the future with the added features and newer app updates that might require high performance internals to process.
