  • Ample battery life

Robust build quality

Option for Alexa and Google voice assistant

Very expensive

Bose is a well-established audio manufacturer based in the United States and the brand deals in premium audio equipment including speakers and headphones.

The Bose Portable Smart Speaker is probably one of the most expensive smart speakers in the market, retailing currently for Rs.31,500.

Design and Build Quality

The Bose Portable Smart Speaker has a unique ergonomic design that is unique from the rest of its competitors.

This stealthy looking smart speaker is built using aluminium, high-quality plastic, and rubber materials.

The lower half of this speaker has a mesh grille from where all the sound will come out, the upper half of this device is made using high-quality plastic that has a premium finish.

Bose has provided an attached accessory to carry this speaker conveniently anywhere and you can’t remove it as it is fixed. This accessory is made using nylon material and feels great in hands.

At the top surface, you will notice a bunch of buttons for media controls, power on/off, Bluetooth on-off switch, microphone on/off, and a single independent button which can be configured through the Bose Music app.

Around the button section, there’s an LED strip that glows while in use but it has only white colour. There is a USB-C port for charging this device.

The grille at the top surface is not for sound output – Bose implemented far-field microphones that are capable of capturing your command even if the speaker is playing a song at full volume.

This Bluetooth speaker is certified IPX4 and taking it outside when it is drizzling won’t damage the device.

Sound Quality

The Bose Portable smart speaker produces a 360-degree loud sound output that is enough to fill a medium-sized room and the sound output is crystal clear.

Bose has claimed that they’ve used three passive bass radiators to amplify the bass frequencies, which isn’t a surprise when we consider the quality of the sound output.

You will get a decent vibrant bass at 70-80% volume and speaking of mids and trebles, the highs of the do sound a bit distorted at full volume but we recommend keeping the volume under 80% and you will have the best experience.

The vocal output is clear and if you love hearing acoustic songs, old 90s songs, podcasts, and audiobooks then this speaker is the right match for you.

Smart Feature

To get more out of Bose Portable Smart Speaker you need to use their app – the Bose Music App.

This smart speaker is loaded with dual voice assistants, Google Assistant, and Alexa. You can use one at a time and we recommend you to go for Alexa as it is more adaptive and provides an excellent user experience.

To play an offline playlist use Bluetooth connectivity and Apple users can pair it with the AirPlay 2.

Battery Life

This Bluetooth speaker is powered by a rechargeable battery which provides 12 hours of music playback with a full charge and the 5W bundled charger takes almost 4 hours to fully juice up the smart speaker battery.

4. Apple HomePod

Apple Homepod

Best Apple Smart Speaker

  • Premium sound quality
  • Elegant and sleek design
  • Six microphones inside

Touch-sensitive buttons

Brand reliability

1-Year warranty

Limited smart features

The US-based company Apple is a well-known brand for its premium smartphones, tablets, and laptops.

The Apple Homepod is a smart speaker that works well with the other products in the Apple ecosystem and currently retails in the Indian market for Rs.19,990.

Design and Build Quality

The Homepod has premium build quality without a doubt and the 3D fabric material on the speaker gives it a peculiar look.

This smart speaker has touch-sensitive volume adjustment buttons and a glowing RGB LED light under the plate.

The Homepod has no external ports or microphone on/off switch. Unlike other speakers, you can’t detach the plug connected to the speaker as it is fixed on board.

Inside this smart speaker, six microphones can hear sound across the room.

Sound Quality

The Apple Homepod sounds amazing and no other speakers on the list can match its sound quality.

This smart speaker has a single large upward-firing woofer and below it, seven beamforming tweeters provide a 360-degree surround sound experience.

The speaker provides the excellent sound output and is good for a medium-sized room. Also, even at 100% volume, there is no distortion of any kind whatsoever.

Whether you are an acoustic song addict or bass head, this speaker will please every person’s ears with its pleasing sound quality.

Smart Feature

The Siri voice assistant can recognize your voice from near but if someone (other than you) says “Hey Siri” from a far distance, the speaker will get activated so it is bad at voice recognition.

You can ask Siri basic questions and queries and it will revert with the answer but when it comes to smart home this device, Apple is not even near to the Google smart speaker or Amazon Alexa.

The music voice command works fine with Apple Music, but issues arise if you use Spotify or any other streaming service. For example, if you use Spotify it can’t play songs on your command but it can change tracks if you ask.

For someone who has heavily invested in the Apple ecosystem already, the Homepod is a good choice as a smart speaker to control every other device.

Design and Build Quality

Sony never compromises on the aesthetics of its products and the Sony SRS-RA3000 is no different.

The Sony SRS-RA3000 has premium cloth fabric material wrapped around the speaker and the speaker grille colored in reddish-brown is made out of metal.

Designwise, we give this speaker a 10/10 rating but it is hard to carry which is no deal-breaker at all as it is designed for indoor use.

There is a microphone in the center of the top plate but there is no switch for disabling the microphone.

Sound Quality

Hats off to this Sony speaker for its audio quality and engineers at the company who put a lot of effort into managing to provide their customers with an immersive sound experience.

The most catchy feature of this smart speaker is ambient room-filling sound. This Bluetooth speaker has a dual side-firing speaker which Sony calls wall to wall and there is an upward-firing omni diffuser that covers the vertical area that is from ceiling to ground.

In simple words, you will be getting a 360-degree surround sound but there are tweaks to it.

The special technology implemented inside this speaker identifies each track and sets the volume accordingly so you don’t have to lift fingers for adjusting sound every time whenever there’s a track with low or high volumes.

The sound adjustment by this speaker makes you relax and provides the feeling of calm whether you are working, making food in the kitchen, or having a hot bath.

Smart Feature

This speaker has Google Voice Assistant built-in and configuring it is a piece of cake.

Just download the app called Google Home and add this speaker. If you have multiple smart speakers at home then you can either play different or the same song on all speakers at the same time.

There is also an app called Sony Music center from which you can control your music and make playlists.

Sony has put a lot of effort into this speaker to provide the user a fruitful sound experience while they are at home and for the price of Rs.19,990 we think it is not a bad deal at all.

Just below the setup button in the rear, there is also an ethernet port for the wired connection.

Sound Quality

Talking about its sound quality -this speaker delivers crystal clear vocals and mids. The bass is punchy and clean but not deep enough for the liking of bassheads.

The loudness from this smart speaker is enough to fill a medium-sized room but at maximum volume, the audio gets a little distorted so keeping the volume at 80% or low is preferred.

Setup the speaker

To set up the speaker you need to download two applications as follows:

  1. Sonos app
  2. Amazon Alexa

These applications are available in the Playstore and Appstore.

The process is quite simple. Download the Sonos app and it will show you the instructions to follow and after 3 to 4 click it will ask you to click on the “Infinity” button to pair the device and afterwards, it will take some time (somewhere around 10 to 15 minutes or more) to get ready.

Sonos app has multiple streaming services available in their app. A slight disadvantage is that you have to select each app and need to enable them one by one but it will be fine if you just use one.

Smart Feature

Since this smart speaker has Alexa built-in, you need to pair the speaker with the Amazon Alexa which is a piece of cake to do.

You can ask Alexa to control your other smart device just to make sure they are all on the same Wi-Fi.

At the front, hidden inside the fabric grill are the four signature Google coloured LEDs that lights up while the speaker is in active use.

As there are no buttons, the volume control is done via tap gestures. You can tap the top left side of the speaker to decrease the volume and the top right corner to increase the volume.

There is a dedicated microphone privacy switch at the rear that can be used to cut off the microphone when needed.

Speaker and Sound Quality

The Google Nest Audio features a large 75mm woofer and 19mm tweeter inside. Before digging into the sound quality we want to tell you that it does not provide the 360-degree sound as these speakers are front-facing, towards the listener.

Now the sound quality, if you ask us to explain in a single word it will be “Marvelous”.

The vocal sounds clear and the vibrant bass of this speaker cannot be compared to any other smart speaker in its price segment.

This smart speaker delivers loud sound output, enough to fill a medium-sized room and even at high volumes, the sound does not get muddy at all.

If you have two nest audio products in the house you can pair them with each other for a stereo surround sound output.
