1. Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra

samsung-galaxy-s20-ultra
Overall Best Pick
  • Best in class performance
  • Excellent camera output quality
  • Long-lasting battery life

The Galaxy S20 Ultra is one of the latest 2020 flagship smartphones from Samsung which was introduced recently in the Indian market.

This device was one of the most anticipated releases of the year, and we all can admit that the device has lived up to its expectations.

Design and Build Quality

The Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra has been manufactured with the utmost precision and care to deliver the best product in terms of hardware as well as software to the end-users.

The glass back is flat except for the square hub camera hardware. It is protected with Corning Gorilla Glass to prevent accidental scratches.

The aluminium railing around the smartphone houses the regular power and volume rocker buttons.

The Bixby button on this device can be reprogrammed to initialize action of your choice.

Overall, the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra scores a 9/10 in terms of build quality and design.

Display

The Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra features one of the best displays available on a mobile device currently on sale in the market.

This 6.9-inch 120Hz dynamic AMOLED display has curved edges which seamlessly integrate with the rest of the shell.

This is a punch-hole display where the camera hole is precisely cut out on the screen instead of housing them on a notch.

This is an HDR10+ certified display with excellent colour and contrast levels matching some of the high-end televisions in the market.

The wider 20:9 aspect ratio makes this display apt for immersive media consumption and gaming.

Processor and Performance

The Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra features the latest 8nm Exynos 990 octa-core SoC clocked at 2.73GHz.

This Exynos 990 is a 5G enabled SoC and provides excellent performance across the spectrum – be it gaming or intense multitasking.

But the thing to note here is that except in the Asia Pacific, the S20 variants come with Qualcomm chips inside, which performs way better than its Exynos counterparts.

The base variant of S20 Ultra has 12GB of RAM and comes with 128GB of high-speed UFS 3.1 storage.

With the power of the latest Android 10 Q and One UI 2.0, this phone feels so smooth and quick for all kinds of tasks you throw at it.

Camera

The Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra features a quadruple rear camera setup involving a 108MP primary sensor with OIS, a 48MP periscope telephoto lens with 4x optical zoom with OIS and a 12MP ultrawide sensor along with a 0.3MP time of flight sensor for depth data.

This camera setup delivers excellent quality stills and videos with amazing details and excellent colour accuracy.

At the front, a 40 MP sensor runs the show when it comes to selfies and video calling.

The camera on the S20 Ultra is one of the best in business, both in terms of photo and video quality.

Low light photography has been improved significantly. Samsung also advertises a 10x hybrid optic zoom for long-distance photography.

The Samsung S20 Ultra is one of the very few smartphones which support video recording with 8K@24fps.

Miscellaneous

The Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra packs in an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor beneath the display.

This sensor is much more accurate and foul proof than the conventional optical in-display fingerprint scanners found on other smartphones with in-display fingerprints.

Battery Life

This premium Android smartphone is powered by a 5000 mAh Li-ion battery with fast wired and wireless charging capability.

This battery is rated to last over two days of light usage and a single day of heavy use.

Verdict

The Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra is one of the most complete packages in terms of features and builds quality you can get in the market right now.

2. Apple iPhone 12 Pro

apple-iPhone-12-pro
Best iOS Smartphone
  • Gorgeous OLED display
  • State of the art camera system
  • One day battery life

The iPhone 12 Pro is the latest iteration of the much-awaited iPhone refreshes this year.

This all-new iPhone has a refreshed design, improved internal hardware and much more when compared with the iPhone 11 Pro of the yesteryear.

Design and Build Quality

The iPhone 12 Pro has a glass sandwich design with a stainless steel frame in the middle for rigid structural integrity.

This smartphone from Apple looks more like the iPhone 5 series with its slab design featuring sharp corners in comparison to the rounded iPhones of the past.

However, this unique design is very striking and delivers one of a kind premium in-hand feel.

The front display has a special glass + sapphire coating which the company makes it more scratch and shatter-resistant but this is yet to be tested.

The special oleophobic coating on top of the glass also helps in keeping water and sweat away as well.

The Apple iPhone 12 Pro features a MagSafe magnetic charging arrangement in the rear which makes it easy to wirelessly charge and to attach accessories such as a wallet behind the back.

Note that Apple had taken a controversial decision this year not to include a charger in the box, so there is none to talk about.

This phone feels very sturdy in hand and the sharper edges feel a bit weird at first, to be honest.

The button placements and the tactile feedback remains the same as usual and is very comfortable to use with.

Display

The iPhone 12 Pro features almost the same display as that of the iPhone 11 pro. This 6.1-inch super XDR OLED display has a resolution of 1170 x 2532 pixels with an impressive 460ppi.

This panel is very sharp and colour accurate and supports Apple True tone colour technology.

It has ample brightness to be used both indoors and outdoors without any legibility issues.

However, one major feature lacking with this otherwise perfect display is the lack of high refresh rate.

This OLED display has a standard 60Hz refresh rate when compared with the 120Hz and 144Hz displays of the Android smartphones out there.

Processor and Performance

The Apple iPhone 12 Pro features the homegrown Apple A14 Bionic Hexa core SoC which is arguably the most powerful mobile processor currently in the market.

Thanks to the 6GB RAM and 128GB high-speed internal storage onboard, the Apple iPhone 12 Pro runs buttery smooth with apps and games as well as with multitasking.

The new iOS 14.1 OS works well in tandem with the hardware inside to deliver excellent everyday performance without consuming too much power.

Camera

This smartphone from Apple packs a triple rear camera module with three 12MP sensors – a primary wide-angle lens, a telephoto lens with 2x optical zoom and an ultra-wide lens.

Both these primary and ultrawide lenses have Optical Image Stabilization (OIS). The quality of images and videos that comes out of these lenses are very pleasing and have natural colours and a wide dynamic range.

The videos are stabilized and can shoot up to 4K at 60fps.

The front camera consists of a 12MP sensor which delivers high-quality selfies and portrait mode snaps.

The overall image and video output from these cameras are top-notch and possibly one of the best among smartphone cameras these days.

In addition to these, there is a LiDAR sensor on the back to improve low light portrait photography and for AR( Artificial Reality) usage.

Battery Life

The iPhone 12 Pro is powered by a relatively smaller 2815mAh Li-Po battery that will give you a screen on time of 9+ hours with moderate to heavy usage.

This device supports 20W regular charging and 15W Qi wireless fast charging.

Apple claims that the battery inside will get charged up to 50% within 30 minutes.

Verdict

If you are an Apple fan or if the budget isn’t an issue, the Apple 12 Pro is indeed one of the best smartphones you can get your hands on right now in the Indian market.

3. Samsung Galaxy Note 20

samsung-galaxy-note-20
Best Smartphone for Professionals
  • Digital stylus support
  • Long battery life
  • Gorgeous AMOLED display

Samsung’s Note series was the first to usher the large-screen smartphone niche in the world.

Before the original Note came along, people were a bit sceptical about a large display on a phone that they’d carry around daily in their pockets.

The Galaxy Note 20 is the latest and greatest addition to the Note family and is probably the best till date.

Design and Build Quality

The Samsung Galaxy Note 20 is more of a professional workhorse rather than a typical smartphone. The features and the design is targeted at people who want more productivity on the go.

The industrial design is very much similar to the previous Samsung Note series phones which in itself is a great thing because those phones looked dope.

The glossy finish plastic back and the seamlessly integrated infinity O display makes this phone look like a stunning marvel worth drooling about.

The build quality is top-notch with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 covering the display and the IP68 dust and water resistance.

Unfortunately, there is no 3.5mm headphone jack on this smartphone.

The main striking feature of the Note series smartphones is the digital stylus. Samsung has completely revamped the stylus functionality with this iteration and made it more useful and handy than ever.

The convenience of stylus usage is what makes the Galaxy Note series a fan favourite among the professionals and business executives.

Display

Samsung makes the best displays in the entire world. Period. The Galaxy Note 20 comes with a 6.8-inch Super AMOLED Plus display with a resolution of 1080 x 2040 pixels.

The colours look vivid and punchy. The wide colour gamut of this panel makes the colours to be as close to the natural colour palette.

The brightness levels are excellent and the sunlight legibility isn’t a thing to worry about.

As Samsung named it, this 6.7-inch Infinity O display integrates seamlessly with the plastic back and makes the device look and feel premium in hand.

The only issue we had with this device was its one-hand usability.

Since it’s a large display, people with relatively small fingers will find it difficult to access the far-reaching corners of the display with a single hand.

Camera

The Samsung Note 20 comes with a triple rear camera setup that comprises two 12MP sensors and a 64MP sensor.

The 64MP sensor is a telephoto lens and is tagged along by the 12MP wide-angle lens and a 12MP ultra-wide sensor.

The is OIS (Optical Image Stabilization) for both the primary and the telephoto cameras. The images that come out of these sensors look great and detailed.

The colour saturation is excellent with minimal noise.

The front 10MP camera has dual PDAF autofocus and takes selfies with good details as well.

Processor and Performance

This device in India features a homebrewed Exynos 990 Octa-core processor inside, which is the same chip we have seen with the Galaxy S20 Ultra smartphone.

This chipset is fast and reliable for gaming as well as other resource-intensive tasks to run smoothly.

There will be no sort of lags or stutters while multitasking with apps, thanks to the ample 8 GB RAM onboard.

The powerful chipset with Android Pie optimizations makes this device one of the fastest performing devices in the market at present.

The 8GB variant comes with 256GB of super fast UFS3.0 onboard memory.

Battery Life

The Note 20 packs a large 4300mAh Li-ion battery inside.

Even with heavy usage, this big-screen beast can last over a day and a half comfortably and then some.

With fast charging support, this device can get charged up pretty quickly as well.

This smartphone also supports reverse wireless charging by which you can charge devices such as wireless earbuds easily on the go.

Verdict

The Samsung Galaxy Note 20 is the best productivity smartphone that money can buy at present.

The phone comes with a wireless stylus that lets you do a plethora of stuff so easily which you will find quite strenuous with fingers.

The long-lasting battery and the excellent display makes it gaming as well as media consumption device as well.

So in short, productivity and entertainment can go hand in hand with this latest offering from Samsung.

4. Motorola Edge Plus

motorola-edge-plus
Best Build Quality
  • Flagship Snapdragon 865 processor
  • UFS3.0 ultra-fast internal storage
  • 90Hz OLED waterfall display

Motorola has been quite silent when it comes to the flagship Android smartphone scene but with the Razr foldable and now with the Edge Plus smartphone it seems they are back with a bang.

The Edge Plus from Motorola is a true flagship grade Android smartphone comparable to the likes of Samsung S20 series.

Design and Build Quality

The Motorola Edge Plus features the familiar glass sandwich design that we are familiar with.

The Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protected front and back panels have an oleophobic coating to repel water droplets easily.

This smartphone is considerably narrower than all other flagships and this makes holding the phone with one hand a delightful experience.

Another important point to note here is that the Edge plus does feature a 3.5mm jack, which almost unheard of when it comes to flagship smartphones.

As the name suggests, the Edge plus has a rounded screen which curves into the glass back, which looks and feels unique as well as premium.

Overall, the construction and build quality are top-notch on this device, as expected from a flagship Android smartphone.

Display

The Motorola Edge plus features a massive 6.7-inch FHD+ OLED display with 90Hz refresh rate.

This display covers around 96% of the front of the phone and also curves into the back glass.

This HDR10 certified OLED panel can display up to 10 billion colours. The colours pop out to your face and the contrast levels are excellent.

The 90Hz refresh rate ensures the visuals and the interface in total feels silky smooth and refined.

Edge plus utilizes the waterfall curved portion of the display for edge lighting notifications, which is cool and very practical when the phone is kept on top of a table or somewhere.

Processor and Performance

This device is powered by the latest flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor built on a 7nm process for better power efficiency.

With 12GB of RAM and 256GB of ultra-fast UFS3.0 storage, this smartphone performs as well as the Samsungs and One Plus devices out there.

The Adreno 650 is now beefier to handle graphics and gaming,

With specs and raw performance matching a mid-range laptop, you won’t have any trouble using this phone anytime soon.

Camera

This flagship smartphone from Motorola has a 108MP primary sensor in the rear with OIS for stabilized photos and videos.

Additionally, there is the 8MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom for long-distance photography followed by a 16MP ultra-wide sensor which can also double up as a macro camera.
The portrait and bokeh mode shots take leverage of the 3D TOF ( time of flight ) sensor for accurate depth data.

The front camera is a 25MP sensor with HDR for high dynamic range selfie shots.

The images and videos turn out to have excellent details and colour accuracy. The OIS helps in reducing the jitters and shakes significantly.

Even with the ultra-wide sensor, there is not much colour noise. One of the important things to note is that the rear camera can record 6K videos at 30fps, although it is an overkill, to be honest.

Battery Life

The Motorola Edge Plus packs in a 5000mAh battery to power up the beefy internals inside.

This battery will easily last for a day worth of heavy usage before you need to plug in the device.

This device supports wireless charging and also has the reverse wireless charging feature which might come in handy at times.

Motorola bundles an 18W fast charger in the box, which is quite an irony considering the price.

Verdict

The Motorola Edge Plus is a well-built smartphone with best in class internals.

It also has a significant advantage of having the near-stock Android 10 OS, untouched with bloatwares and fancy UI skins.

5. Samsung Galaxy S20 FE

samsung-galaxy-s20-fe
Best all Round Performer
  • Gorgeous 120Hz OLED display
  • Decent battery life
  • Powerful octa-core SoC

The Samsung Galaxy S20 FE is the trimmed down version of the popular S20 flagship smartphone.

Samsung has cut corners here and there to reduce the final price but almost all the marquee features have been retained with this device which retails for just Rs.44,999 in the Indian market.

Design and Build Quality

This premium mid-range smartphone has a glass front, plastic back design with an aluminium frame in between.

The use of plastic back may be a question mark for many, but we liked this matte finish back.

The use of plastic also helped Samsung to cut down the overall weight of this device to 190g.

The overall fit and finish of this smartphone remain top-notch, as expected from a Samsung smartphone.

However, the lack of a 3.5mm headphone jack is still one thing we can’t get over that easily.

This device comes with a hybrid SIM slot meaning you can either use two SIM cards or a SIM and an SD card for memory expansion but not both.

The Samsung Galaxy S20 FE comes with IP68 dust and water resistance, making it very usable outdoors no matter the weather condition.

Display

Samsung is known for their OLED displays worldwide. The Galaxy S20 FE features a 6.5-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels.

This is a 120Hz refresh rate panel with buttery smooth visuals and UI transitions.

Thanks to a small single punch hole camera cut out in the top, this panel has an impressive 84.8% screen to body ratio with minimal bezels, delivering an immersive media consumption experience.

This 407ppi display is plenty of sharp and clean with visuals and texts.

Thanks to the OLED technology, the deep blacks and the vivid, punchy colours with excellent contrast ratio makes up for a very pleasing visual experience.

With games supporting high refresh rate playback, this 120Hz panel performs the best.

Processor and Performance

The Samsung Galaxy S20 FE is powered by the flagship Exynos octa-core processor with comparable performance as that of the Snapdragon flagship SoCs.

With 8GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage onboard, the S20 FE delivers exceptional performance when it comes to dealing with apps as well as the modern games.

This processor breaks no sweat when dealing with resource-intensive apps multitasking in the background.

To be honest, most of the premium mid-range, flagship smartphones offer an almost similar level of performance, thanks to the SoCs inside getting powerful and cheaper at the same time.

Camera

The Galaxy S20 FE from Samsung features a triple rear camera consisting of 12MP primary camera, an 8MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom and a 12MP ultra-wide sensor.

Out of this 12MP primary and the 8MP telephoto lens comes with OIS to reduce shakes and jitters while capturing photos and recording videos.

The quality of photos and videos from these cameras turns out to be with ample details and sharpness as well as colour accuracy.

Speaking of the video, this device can record 4K videos at 60fps.

In the front, the Samsung S20 FE has a 32MP single selfie camera with HDR and gyro EIS support.

Battery Life

The Samsung Galaxy S20 FE is powered by a 4500mAh Li-Po battery that is supposed to last a day even with heavy usage at 120Hz screen refresh rate.

This device supports 25W fast charging which will juice up the battery fairly quickly.

There is also support for 15W wireless charging and 4.5W reverse wireless charging for topping up devices such as TWS earbuds.

6. Realme X50 Pro

realme-x50-pro
Value for Money Smartphone
  • Flagship Snapdragon 865 processor
  • 90Hz FHD+ AMOLED display
  • Decent battery life

The X50 Pro is the flagship smartphone offering from Realme with 5G support priced under Rs.42,000.

The Realme X50 Pro is arguably the best smartphone that has ever come out after the brand spun off as a separate subsidiary from Oppo.

Design and Build Quality

The Realme X50 Pro is built to last. It has a glass sandwich design with a strong aluminium frame in between.

The front and the rear glass is protected by Corning’s Gorilla Glass 5 to save the device from accidental scratches.

This device has stereo speakers and support for Dolby Atmos and incidentally has very loud and clear sound output.

There is no memory expansion slot, so you’ll be stuck with the 128GB storage onboard forever. One other thing that is lacking is the 3.5mm headphone jack which is quite disappointing considering the price.

The buttons are placed comfortably around the chassis where the fingers naturally rest. These buttons feel tactile and responsive as well.

The camera unit is vertically placed in the rear, similar to other Realme phones we have come across in the past.

Overall the fit and finish and the build quality of the Realme X50 Pro are very much on point considering its internals and the asking price.

Display

The Realme X50 Pro has a 6.44-inch Super AMOLED FHD+ display with a resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels.

This 20:9 aspect ratio panel has a pixel density of 409ppi, making it extremely sharp and vibrant to the eyes.

With a maximum refresh rate of 90Hz which can be toggled on or off, the visuals and the animations look buttery smooth.

If you are an avid gamer or mobile media consumption enthusiast, this display will make you feel right at home.

This is an HDR10+ certified panel which extends the dynamic range further for an immersive content viewing experience.

Processor and Performance

The Realme X50 Pro is powered by the latest and greatest flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor and assisted with the Adreno 650 GPU.

This is a 5G enabled chipset with eight cores clocked at 2.84GHz that performs blazingly fast with games, everyday usage and multitasking.

Games run smoothly at high graphics settings without any issues and the high-resolution video playback also works just as good.

Since the Qualcomm 865 processor is made by a 7nm process, it is not powerful but also power efficient.

Camera

This premium mid-range smartphone from Realme has a quad rear camera setup and a dual front camera.

In the rear, the primary 64MP sensor is followed by the 12MP telephoto lens with 2x optical zoom, 8MP ultra-wide sensor and 2MP B&W sensor for accurate depth information.

The pictures and videos from the rear camera turn out to have ample details and natural colours.

Realme hasn’t done any abnormal saturation boosting this time and it reflects in the results.

The front dual camera has a 32MP primary shooter assisted by an 8MP ultra-wide sensor for capturing more subjects while framing selfie shots or while blogging.

Battery Life

Realme X50 Pro is powered by a 4200mAh Li-Po battery that is rated to last for a day and a half with moderate to heavy usage.

Realme has included a 65W super dart charger in the box that will juice up the battery from zero to hundred comfortably within an hour.

Verdict

The Realme X50 Pro is a flagship-grade device with best in class internals for half the price of other branded smartphones from the likes of Samsung.

If you are in search of a 5G enabled smartphone with excellent performance and decent battery life, the Realme X50 Pro is a device well worth checking out.

7. Asus ROG Phone 3

asus-rog-phone-3
Best Gaming Smartphone
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 865+ flagship processor
  • Two Type C USB ports for charging and accessories
  • Dual Air triggers for quick controls

We are all familiar with the ROG series gaming laptops from Asus. With the ROG phone Asus has brought some of the industry-leading mobile gaming technology over to the smartphone market, consolidating its position as a premium smartphone gaming brand.

The ROG Phone 3 is Asus’s flagship gaming phone which is one of the most advanced smartphones in the market that is built specifically with gaming in mind.

Build and Design

The ROG Phone 3 has still maintained the gamer accents found in its predecessors albeit they are a bit toned down.

This gaming-centric smartphone has an aluminium frame with a gorilla glass back. In the rear section, there are the camera bump, exposed heatsink, and ROG logo with Aura RGB lighting.

The lighting on the logo can be customized and it also doubles as a notification LED.

On the side of the phone, you will find two air triggers which is something you don’t usually find on normal phones. This feature lets you assign key gaming functions to the air triggers.

The phone is a bit bulky and on the heavier side which is not a surprise considering the features it comes loaded with.

But there is one important feature that the ROG Phone 3 lacks and that is a headphone jack. We wished that Asus has included one for obvious reasons but it is what it is.

Asus has done away with the headphone jack on the ROG Phone 3 and it has been criticized by many since this is a gaming phone. Instead, now you get a USB C to 3.5mm dongle to connect your headphones.

Asus has added two Type C USB ports on the phone so you can charge your phone and game at the same time. The second Type C port is located on the side of the device.

Processor and Performance

Powering the Asus ROG Phone 3 is the latest Qualcomm flagship processor, the Snapdragon 865+. Assisting this SoC in the graphics department is the Qualcomm Adreno 650.

The ROG Phone 3 supports 5G network connectivity which makes it future proof even though the 5G network is still not available in India.

All modern mobile games should run on the ROG Phone 3 without a hitch and you can expect amazing gameplay without any lags. Games like Call of Duty Mobile and Fortnite should be a breeze to run at higher frame rates.

This smartphone comes with 8GB RAM which ensures that you can multitask without a hassle and your games won’t run out of memory when you switch between the applications.

The ROG Phone 3 features high speed 128GB UFS 3.1 inbuilt storage for your games and other applications which performs just like any modern SSD’s inside laptops.

The heating on the phone is handled well thanks to the heatsink and copper vapour chamber inside the phone. Even though the phone gets a bit warm during gaming, it doesn’t become too hot to cause any major issues.

The ROG Phone 3 has various accessories that can be added to it like the Aeroactive Cooler 3 to further enhance your gaming experience.

Display

The display on the ROG Phone 3 is a huge 6.59-inch Full HD+ AMOLED panel with a fluid 144Hz refresh rate for a smooth gaming experience.

Games that support high frame rates are going to be a delight to play on the ROG Phone 3.

The display is a beautiful AMOLED HDR panel, delivers you more accurate colours and deeper blacks than an ordinary LCD panel. The glass used on the display is Corning Gorilla Glass 6 for better protection from accidental scratches.

Similar to most other flagship smartphones in the market, the Asus ROG Phone 3 has an in-display fingerprint scanner that feels fast and responsive.

Cameras

The ROG Phone 3 is a gaming phone and as expected the cameras on the phone are not that great, but you won’t be buying a gaming phone to take pictures.

In the rear of the phone, we get a 64MP primary camera, 13MP ultra-wide camera, and a 5MP macro camera. In the front of the device, we have the 24MP selfie shooter.

The photos taken by the camera come out decent when taken in good lighting conditions but don’t go expecting a great deal from the camera.

Thanks to the powerful ISP inside the Snapdragon 865+ SoC inside, this device is capable of recording videos up to 8K resolution.

Like we mentioned before, this is a gaming phone and the cameras are not it’s strong forte.

Miscellaneous

The ROG Phone 3 has two front-firing stereo speakers and they are one of the best sounding speakers you can find on a smartphone.

Since the speakers on the phone are front-firing, you do get to see some bezels on the top and bottom but they are not that huge to hinder your gaming experience.

Battery Life

The ROG Phone 3 comes packed with a whopping 6000mAh battery for all your daily gaming and browsing needs.

The battery on the phone should last you a day if you are a heavy gamer without a problem and on normal usage, you can easily get more than a day’s charge.

This means you won’t have to charge your phone that often resulting in a healthier and a lasting battery in the long run.

Talking about charging, the phone comes bundled with a 30W fast charger to juice up the battery once it dies. You can use either of the two Type C USB ports on the phone to charge it up.

Verdict

The Asus ROG Phone 3 is a phone that is built exclusively for mobile gamers. This device features unique technologies such as the air triggers and dual Type C USB ports intended specifically for gaming needs.

If you are a hardcore mobile gamer and want the best mobile phone to game on then look no further.

8. Oneplus 8T 5G

oneplus-8t-5g
Budget Flagship Smartphone
  • Best in class Snapdragon 865 processor
  • 120Hz fluid AMOLED display
  • 65W dash charging support

OnePlus is a Chinese smartphone brand popular for its affordable flagships that often beat the big players in the market.

The OnePlus 8T is the latest incremental hardware update to the popular OnePlus 7 with almost all the good features retained and then added some that make this phone more likeable.

Design and Build Quality

In the never-ending battle of increased screen real estate, companies started relying on motorized front cameras to avoid notch.

But with this iteration of the 8 series phones, Oneplus has punch hole camera design which we honestly prefer over motorized cameras any day.

The chin size has been reduced slightly to make the display seem to stretch across the front side.

The quality of construction is top-notch and the attention to detail is very much evident from the fit and finish of this display.

Processor and Performance

Inside this device, what powers the show is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865+ processor.

This flagship processor from Qualcomm along with the Adreno 650 GPU performs everything you throw at it with relative ease.

Be it gaming or any other resource-intensive tasks such as video/photo editing, the device performs exceptionally well without any lags, thanks to the 8GB onboard RAM and the faster 128GB UFS3.1 storage.

The Oxygen OS that runs on top of the base Android 11 is minimal and adds only the necessary features without bloating the interface too much.

This makes the operations smooth and fast and also aids in achieving better battery life.

Display

The OnePlus 8T has a 6.55-inch Fluid AMOLED display with a punch-hole camera cutout. This full HD panel looks fantastic with true to life colour reproduction and excellent contrast levels.

This being a 120Hz refresh rate display, the animations and the interface altogether feels silky smooth.

This is by far the best looking FHD+ AMOLED panel in any smartphone in the market. Nifty additions like a super-fast facial recognition, which works extremely well and the dedicated gaming mode improve the usability of the device to the next level.

The fingerprint scanner now resides in the lower half of the display and works well to unlock the device from sleep.

This is fairly quick and extremely accurate and offers the same level of security as that of physical fingerprint scanners.

Camera

This device comes with a triple 48MP + 16MP + 5MP+2MP camera at the rear and a 16MP front camera.

The 48MP sensor in the rear features Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) for steady smooth shots. Electronic Image stabilisation is present as well.

The 16MP camera is an ultra-wide sensor with a wide field of view for capturing landscapes and buildings.

The 5MP is the macro mode shooter for close up shots and the 2MP shooter is there for depth information. The OnePlus 8T can record 4K video at 60fps with gyro EIS enabled.

The front 16M shooter is HDR enabled and can record electronically stabilized 1080p videos at 30fps.

The pictures taken by the camera are rich in detail and exhibit great dynamic range.

Both the front and rear cameras perform great in good lighting conditions but the same can’t be said about the front camera.

Battery Life

This device has a 4500mAh Li-ion battery that will last for a day and a half on moderate to heavy usage.

The industry-leading 65W dash charge support makes it easy to juice up the battery within no time.

Verdict

OnePlus 8T is a value for money smartphone that offers flagship internals at an affordable price.

This device is well built and the overall construction feels premium and durable.

The 120Hz AMOLED display with great colours and a capable camera along with continuous software support from the company makes this device one of the best phones available in the market.

9. Mi 10T

mi-10t
Feature Rich Smartphone
  • 144Hz FHD+ AMOLED display
  • Long-lasting battery life
  • 5G enabled flagship processor

Mi 10T is the latest mid-range Android flagship smartphone from Xiaomi launched recently in the Indian market.

Priced under Rs.40,000, this premium smartphone competes with the likes of Realme X50 pro and the IQOO smartphones.

Design and Build Quality

Similar to many other smartphones in its price range, the Mi 10T features a glass sandwich design with an aluminium frame in between.

Protected by the Corning’s gorilla glass 5 in the front, the Mi 10 looks eerily similar to yesteryear Samsung flagship phones, mainly due to the curved glass display upfront.

This smartphone comes with stereo speakers and has a decent sound output quality, to say the least.

There is no memory expansion slot and 3.5mm headphone jack, but as a consolation, Xiaomi was kind enough to bundle a USB type C to 3.5mm adapter in the box.

The power button and the volume rockers are placed on the right side as we have seen with Xiaomi devices in the past. The left side remains wary of any buttons or slots whatsoever.

Weighing at 216g, this rounded display smartphone feels quite okay to hold in the hand but accidental screen touches might pose an issue for the first few days of usage.

Display

The Mi 10T flagship smartphone features a 6.67-inch super AMOLED display with a resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels.

This 19.5:9 aspect ratio panel is HDR10+ certified to deliver visuals with the best possible dynamic range in the segment.

Being an AMOLED panel, the blacks remain inky blacks and the colours appear vivid and punchy.

This 144Hz refresh rate panel has a maximum peak brightness of 500 nits which is excellent for indoor usage and provides good enough outdoor screen legibility.

Thanks to the punch hole front camera, this display has a screen to body ratio of 85.2% which makes the entire front section feel like a seamless piece of display.

Processor and Performance

This premium flagship smartphone from Xiaomi features the latest 5G enabled Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor coupled with Adreno 650 graphics.

This is a tried and tested processor which handles every task thrown at it with relative ease in a power-efficient manner, thanks to the 7nm+ process.

Coupled with 6GB RAM and 128GB of super-fast UFS3.1 storage, every action feels lightning fast and smooth.

There is no lag to be seen or felt anywhere throughout the UI.

Be it gaming, media consumption or multitasking, this processor never breaks a sweat.

Do note the fact that since this device doesn’t come with a memory expansion slot, you can’t chip in an SD card as you wish.

Camera

The Mi 10T has an impressive rear camera setup. The triple rear camera system comprises the primary 64MP f/1.9 sensor with PDAF followed by a 13MP ultra-wide sensor and a 5MP macro mode shooter.

We wish Xiaomi had added a telephoto lens instead of the macro mode camera but it is what it is.

An LED flash assists these cameras in low light environments to take detailed, colour accurate shots.

The images and videos from these sensors come out very detailed and colour accurate, with decent exposure and dynamic range.

The rear camera of this smartphone can record 8K videos at 30fps.

In the front, the single 20MP punch hole camera rules the show to provide a detailed and colour accurate selfie shooting experience.

Battery

What powers the Mi 10T’s hardware beneath is a 5000mAh Li-Po battery that will easily last you over a day and a half even with extensive usage.

Xiaomi has included a 33W charger in the box to top this battery fairly quickly.

Verdict

The Xiaomi Mi 10T is a mid-range flagship Android smartphone with top of the line internals including the 5G enabled Snapdragon 865 processor and a stunning AMOLED display.

If you are looking for a device with flagship specs at almost half the price of established brands such as Samsung, the Mi 10 is a great choice.

10. Realme 7

realme-7
Best Budget Smartphone
  • Powerful Helio G95 processor
  • 64MP quad rear camera
  • 90Hz refresh rate FHD+ display

Realme 7 is the latest smartphone to launch in India from the Oppo sub-brand Realme, which comes as a successor to the widely popular and successful Realme 6.

Packed with an all-new processor and camera optics, the Realme 7 is all set to take on the likes of Poco M2 Pro and the Samsung M21 in the sub. Rs.15,000 price segment.

Design and Build Quality

The Realme 7 features a modern and elegant design, which the company fondly calls the mirror design.

The polycarbonate backplate can be mistaken for glass, thanks to the glossy finish with subtle gradient pattern and adds to the overall premium feel of the device.

The fingerprint scanner on this device now rests on the right side, right where the power button is. Yes, the sensor is now integrated into the power button for easier access.
The punch hole display up front is protected by Corning gorilla glass 3, similar to its predecessor – the Realme 6.

There is a dedicated SD slot on this device along with two nano-SIM slots so that you don’t have to compromise with either the cellular connectivity or the storage space.

The lack of a secondary noise-cancelling microphone is one of the only gripes we have with this phone in the design department.

Display

As we said before, the Realme 7 features a 6.5-inch FHD+ IPS display with a punch-hole camera cutout in the top left corner.

This 20:9 aspect ratio display has a native resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels and boasts of an impressive 405ppi.

As an icing on the cake, this colour accurate and bright display is a 90Hz panel which ensures smooth scrolling and visuals like in no other phones in this price segment.

Processor and Performance

The all-new MediaTek Helio G95 octa-core processor runs the show on the Realme 7.

This 12nm processor has a base clock of 2.05GHz and is assisted by the Mali G76 GPU for lag-free graphics performance.

With the 6GB RAM and the 64GB UFS2.1 storage onboard, this phone is one of the fastest in this price range.

Be it gaming, media consumption or everyday casual usage, this device performs like a champ.

Games such as COD mobile, PUBG and Fortnite run very well, without any dropped frames or lags. Thanks to the improved touch response rate, the in-game manoeuvres will feel very quick and precise.

Camera

The Realme 7 comes with a quad rear camera setup just like the Realme 6, but this time with an improved Sony IMX682 primary sensor.

The rear camera setup consists of a 64MP primary sensor with f/1.8 aperture and support for PDAF, an 8MP ultra-wide sensor, a 2MP b&w sensor followed by a 2MP depth-sensing unit.

The photos which come out of the primary camera have ample details and close to natural colours. There is no unnecessary saturation boosting on this phone as we had seen with older Realme devices.

Realme 7 is capable of recording 4K videos at 30fps and FHD videos at 30/60fps as well.

The 16MP front shooter comes with the usual AI beauty modes and filters to make your selfies look better than ever.

Battery Life

The Realme 7 is powered by a 5000mAh Li-ion battery which is rated to last over a day and a half, even with heavy usage.

You can expect to get anywhere around 7-8 hours of screen on time, with a 90Hz refresh rate turned on.

Realme has also included a 30W dart charger inside the box which will help you juice up this mammoth battery within 1-1.5 hours.

Verdict

The Realme 7 is currently the best smartphone you can purchase for a budget under Rs.15,000.

Packed to the brim with cutting edge features, we’d have to admit that Realme has beaten Redmi to the punch this time around.

  • Long-lasting 5000mAh battery

Motorola was lagging behind the competitors in the smartphone market once Lenovo acquired it from Google.

The all-new Motorola One Fusion+ is a sign of Motorola trying to up its ante against brands like Xiaomi and Realme to capture the lost foothold in the market.

Design and Build Quality

The Motorola One Fusion+ has a glass front and plastic back shell with a polycarbonate plastic frame in between.

The backplate has a lined pattern with glass-like subtle glossy texture which looks and feels good.

This smartphone has a dedicated button to summon Google voice assistant. The fingerprint scanner rests on the rear at a comfortable position within normal hand reach.

Since this device features a pop-up selfie camera, the display has no notches or cutouts to obstruct a seamless UI experience.

Display

The Motorola One Fusion+ features a 6.5-inch Full HD+ display with HDR10. This is one of the best displays in this segment, with vivid and bright colour reproduction and inky deep blacks.

This device is capable of recording 4k videos at 30fps and full HD videos at 120fps. You can even use the macro camera for video recording.

When it comes to the front, a motorized 16MP pop-up selfie camera does the job without any issues.

The images and videos appear adequately detailed and colour accurate. The post-processing is minimal, which helps the camera to retain most of the natural colours we see with our eyes.

Miscellaneous

This device comes with a dedicated audio DAC for 32-bit audio playback via wired earphones and headphones.

Battery Life

The Motorola One Fusion+ is powered by a 5000mAh battery which Motorola claims to have a standby time of 23 days.

Realme, the sub-brand of Oppo targeting the budget smartphone market in the country is in full swing releasing much-awaited releases – the Realme 2 and the Realme 2 pro.

The Realme C3 is the worthy successor to the original Realme C2 which was one of the most popular budget devices of yesteryear in the sub Rs.8000 price category.

Design and Build Quality

The Realme C3 brings the much-hyped waterdrop notch display trend into the sub Rs.8000 price point.

This device has a matte back with a textured finish that reflects lights in unique ways.

The design feels refreshing and unique. It sets the Realme C3 in a league apart from its competition when it comes to the overall style.

There is a slight dark bezel around the display of this device and a considerable chin at the bottom as well.

The materials used for the construction of this budget smartphone are of high quality and feel premium.

Display

The Realme C3 packs one of the largest displays in its segment – a 6.52-inch IPS LCD panel with an HD+ resolution of 720 x 1600 pixels.

This amounts to about 269 pixels which are quite decent for a smartphone of this price.

The Realme C3 has an impressive 89.8% screen to body ratio which is excellent for a phone in its category, thanks to the dewdrop notch.

The 19:9 aspect ratio will help you watch media content more immersively. The colours are decent and the brightness levels are on par with the competent devices.

Processor and Performance

The Realme C3 packs in a powerful Helio G70 which is an octa-core processor clocked at 2GHz.

This is perhaps the best performing budget CPU that you can find on smartphones in this segment.

Be it multitasking or heavy gaming, this G70 chip has proven its mettle, being so smooth and lag-free.

The Mali G52 GPU does help the SoC in graphics-related processes. The apps open and run fine without any stutters.

13. Redmi 9 Prime

redmi-9-prime
Best Entry Level Smartphone
  • Vibrant Full HD IPS display
  • Long-lasting 5020mAh battery
  • AI quad rear camera

Redmi 9 Prime is the entry-level 9 series smartphone from Redmi which is placed just below the Redmi note 9.

Starting at Rs.9,999 for the 4GB/64GB variant, the Redmi 9 prime is one of the most value for money smartphones available in the sub. Rs.10,000 price segment.

Design and Build Quality

The Redmi 9 Prime has a glass front and a plastic back with a plastic frame in the middle.

This helps the smartphone to be weighed less than 200g even with a large 5000mAh processor.

Redmi calls the design of this smartphone the Aura 360 pattern which we are familiar with the likes of POCO X2.

The circular gradient pattern around the camera looks and feels very premium.

Redmi has included a water repellent coating over the chassis to offer some sort of protection from liquid spills and light rains.

The physical fingerprint scanner on this smartphone is placed below the vertical camera module, just like that on the Redmi Note 8 Pro.

Display

This is one area where Redmi 9 Prime beats its competition by a significant margin.

While smartphones such as Realme Narzo and Motorola G8 Power lite come with HD+ displays in this price segment, Redmi has decided to include a 6.53-inch full HD panel with a resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels.

This display is crazy good for the price in terms of colour accuracy and sharpness. It has a peak brightness of up to 400 nits for easy sunlight visibility as well.

Protected with Corning gorilla glass 3 on top, the Note 9 Prime has a pixel density close to 400ppi, which makes it quite comparable with the display of the higher-priced Redmi Note 9 Pro.

Processor

The Redmi 9 Prime is powered by MediaTek Helio G80 CPU, which is manufactured on a 12nm process.

This chipset is almost twice better than the Snapdragon 439 we had on the Redmi 8 smartphone.

Running on the latest Android 10 OS with MIUI skin on top, the Redmi 9 prime can even play games without any issues.

Both these camera units can capture videos at a maximum resolution of 1080p at 30fps.

Battery life

The Redmi 9 prime packs a massive 5020mAh Li-ion battery inside.

This battery is the same as that of the one found on its elder siblings – the Redmi Note 9 and the Redmi Note 9 Pro series.

With moderate to heavy usage, the Redmi 9 Prime is rated to last over two days on a single charge.

This device supports 18W fast charging if you can invest in a separate charger.

samsung-galaxy-m51
Smartphone with Best Battery Life
  • Powerful and efficient Snapdragon 730G processor
  • Long-lasting 7000mAh battery
  • Vivid and punchy sAMOLED Plus display

Samsung M series devices are online exclusive smartphones that are priced aggressively to compete with the Redmi and Realme devices in the market.

The all-new Galaxy M51 has many firsts in the segment and for the first time features a Qualcomm processor instead of the homebrew Exynos chipset.

Design and Build Quality

The Samsung Galaxy M51 comes with a glass front and plastic back, which is not uncommon for smartphones in this price range.

The plastic back on this device looks and feels similar to the glass, but makes it lightweight and less brittle in case of an accidental fall.

This smartphone from Samsung weighs just 213g, and considering the massive 7000mAh battery inside this device is surprisingly lightweight.

The single speaker, USB type C charging port and the 3.5mm headphone jack is present in the bottom portion of the phone while the right side has the fingerprint sensor embedded into the power button and the volume rockers on top.

The Samsung Galaxy M51 features a 2+1 SIM configuration meaning you can insert two SIM cards and a dedicated SD card for storage expansion.

Display

The Samsung Galaxy M51 boasts of a 6.7-inch FHD+ sAMOLED Plus display with an effective resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels.

The company claims that the sAMOLED Plus panel is thinner and lighter than the conventional AMOLED panels found on other M series devices from the past.

This display is protected by the Corning gorilla glass 3 to prevent accidental scratches.

With a punch-hole camera upfront, this display with a 19.5:9 aspect ratio display has a pixel density of 385ppi.

The colours look very vivid and punchy and the contrast levels, being an OLED display is outstanding.

Speaking of the brightness levels, this display gets adequately bright indoors as well outdoors.

Processor and Performance

As we mentioned earlier, Samsung has decided to go the Qualcomm route with this device.

The Samsung Galaxy M51 is powered by the Snapdragon 730G octa-core processor clocked at 2.2GHz and is assisted by the Adreno 618 GPU.

The 730G is one of the power-efficient processors with exceptional performance metrics in this price segment.

Together with the 6GB RAM and 128GB UFS 2.1 storage, this smartphone will deliver buttery smooth performance no matter what you throw at it.

The One UI2.0 on top of Android 10 is optimized very well not to create any sort of performance bottlenecks whatsoever.

Camera

This premium mid-range smartphone comes with a quad rear camera setup with a primary 64MP Sony sensor accompanied by 12MP ultra-wide, 5MP macro and 5MP depth-sensing unit.

The images and videos that come out of these cameras look very rich in details and colour accurate.

You can record 4K videos at 30fps with the rear camera while the front camera maxes out at 1080p @ 30fps.

The front camera is a 32MP shooter with HDR support and an aperture size of f/2.0 for good daylight selfies and decent low light photos.

Battery Life

Samsung Galaxy M51 is one of them, perhaps the only 7000mAh battery-powered smartphone available in India at present.

This monstrous battery helps this smartphone to last easily for two days even with heavy usage.

Samsung has also added support for reverse charging. With this feature, you can use the M51 to charge other devices in the vicinity via the supplied USB type C cable.

The company has also included a 25W fast charger in the box which will completely juice up this battery from zero to hundred within two hours.

Verdict

The Samsung M51 is one of a kind smartphone for those who want a battery monster device without any compromise on performance.

The AMOLED display and the non-Chinese brand factor is also a big factor worth considering while purchasing this device.

The pictures and videos from these cameras come out relatively clean and colour accurate.

Even the night mode photos seem usable. Since it is a Qualcomm device, expect a working port of GCam that can do wonders in terms of photos.

This smartphone can record 4K videos at 30fps and FHD videos at 120fps.

In the front, the 20MP punch hole camera does a great job in capturing detailed selfies with adequate sharpness and detail levels.

Battery Life

The POCO X3 has a relatively beefy 6000mAh battery inside powering its internals.

This will last you for a day and a half with intense heavy usage.

POCO has bundled a 33W fast charger in the box that juices up the battery within 1.30-1.45 hours.
