Heavy

The Acer Aspire 7 is a premium mid-range laptop that costs nearly around Rs.50,000 in the Indian market.

With its undebatable performance and professional design, this all-round laptop from Acer is a versatile machine capable of a multitude of use cases.

Design and Build Quality

The Acer Aspire 7 build uses two types of materials. The top cover and C-deck are made out of aluminium whereas the base is produced from hard plastic.

The top cover has a superior matte finish and has a text style Acer logo in the centre, that we are familiar with the Aspire series laptops.

Weighing at 2.15Kg, this laptop isn’t the lightest machine around.

The robust hinges of this laptop hold the lid tight to prevent display wobbliness and the lid does not have any noticeable flex.

The fans for the thermal control work silently on normal usage but get quite a bit loud when the processor is busy handling resource-intensive applications.

Connectivity Features:

The Acer Aspire 7 features the following I/O ports:

  • 2 x USB 3.2 ports
  • 1 x USB Type-C port
  • 1 x USB 2.0 port
  • 1 x HDMI port
  • RJ-45 LAN port
  • 3.5mm combo audio jack

Processor and Performance

The processor inside this laptop is an AMD Ryzen 5 – 3550H quad-core processor with a base clock speed of 2.1GHz and a turbo boost up to 3.7GHz.

It comes with a dedicated 4GB DDR6 Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650 graphics card. This GPU is capable of processing every modern Esport title game at high graphics settings with a constant frame rate of 60fps.

Apart from gaming, this graphic card is also capable of handling productivity tasks such as video rendering and simulations.

The 8GB DDR4 RAM inside handles almost every task you throw at it with relative ease. The RAM can be upgraded up to 32GB if you feel the need to do so.

The Acer Aspire 7 laptops have a 512GB SSD onboard storage. This modern SSD will enhance the performance of a laptop by speeding up the bootup and app loading times.

Display

The Acer Aspire 7 features a 15.6-inch full HD LED-backlit comfy view display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels.

This display has narrow bezels on the sides. Thanks to this, the 15.6-inch panel looks bigger than its actual size and offers a seamless media viewing experience.

This is a relatively sharp and colour accurate panel compared with the average quality displays on older Aspire series laptops.

Miscellaneous

The Acer Aspire 7 comes pre-installed with the Windows 10 Home OS.

The webcam is located on the top display chin and it provides nice quality visuals under the brightly lit conditions.

The keyboard is backlit and is good for gaming as well as typing. The keys are well spaced and have good tactile feedback on key presses. This keyboard is suitable for coders, games, bloggers etc.

The downward-firing speaker on this laptop is surprisingly loud and clear, even at high volume levels. Watching movies or listening to songs on this machine will be an enjoyable experience for sure.

Battery Life

The Acer Aspire 7 is powered by a 3 cell 48Wh li-ion battery. Considering a normal day to day casual usage, this laptop battery manages to last up to 6 hours on a single charge.

However, playing AAA titles games or rendering high-quality video does drain the battery significantly fast, within three hours.

The bundled 135 W AC adapter manages to charge the battery from zero to hundred within 2 hours

Verdict

The Acer Aspire 7 is an amazing laptop with good hardware specifications, well worth the asking price.

This laptop offers such great performance with easy hardware upgradability which will squeeze out maximum performance from this laptop.

Asus Vivobook series combines excellent performance and built quality at a very compelling price point.

Priced just under Rs. 50,000, the Vivobook 14 is a lightweight laptop with commendable performance within a lightweight and compact chassis.

Build Quality and Design

Asus Vivobook laptops have always been one of our favourite laptops with premium design, even in the entry-level budget market.

Although the device is made of plastic components, it doesn’t feel cheap at all. The outer chassis at the back has brushed metal design which looks great when viewed from a distance. The grooved surface also feels good in the hand.

The keyboard is of slightly disappointing quality despite being a full-sized one. The keys are well laid out with enough space in between but the key travel distance is inadequate.

The ultra-thin bezels around the display make this device look premium and drool-worthy.

Connectivity Features:

The Asus Vivobook 14 features the following I/O ports:

  • 1 x USB 3.1 port
  • 2 x USB 2.0 port
  • 1 x Type-C port
  • 1 x HDMI port
  • 1 x MicroSD card reader
  • 1 x 3.5mm combo audio jack

Processor and Performance

What’s powering this laptop is the latest fourth-generation AMD Ryzen 5 – 4500U six-core chipset with 8GB of DDR4 RAM.

This processor is an absolute beast in terms of everyday performance. Multitasking and resource-intensive apps run like a charm without any lags or stutters.

The 512GB SSD boots up the system swiftly and it loads the apps much faster compared with HDD powered laptops.

The Asus Vivobook 14 comes with an AMD Radeon R3 GPU to assist the processor in graphics-heavy tasks.

You can even run light games on this machine and do casual video editing without any issues.

Display

Coming to the display, this device packs in a 14-inch full HD LED-backlit anti-glare panel with good colours and brightness levels.

The anti-glare screen also reduces reflectivity resulting in reduced stress to the eyes while working from a brightly lit environment.

Miscellaneous

Warranty is an area where most of the laptop brands skimp on their promises. Asus provides one year of onsite warranty with this laptop.

There’s a fingerprint scanner placed alongside the touchpad to ensure the safety of files and other sensitive data inside.

Battery

Battery life is quite okay on this laptop. The juice lasts for about five hours tops on moderate to heavy usage.

Asus has included a 45W AC adapter which juices up the battery from zero to full in 2 to 2.15 hours.

Verdict

Honestly speaking, the Asus Vivobook 14 is a very capable machine that can run your apps the way they meant to be for a budget just under Rs.60,000.

The hinge of this laptop reminds us that of the HP premium Envy lineup. The robust hinge mechanism of this laptop works almost the same and is fully rotatable up to 360-degrees.

Weighing at 1.58Kg, this is one of the lightest convertible laptops available in the Indian market priced under Rs.55,000.

HP has cleverly designed this laptop to have an efficient thermal system to keep the internal temperature under check.

Connectivity Features:

This entry-level CPU from Intel delivers smooth and lag-free performance with light multitasking and everyday workloads.

The 8GB DDR4 RAM onboard is sufficient to do casual day today as well as multitasking work.

Display

Apart from a decent colour reproduction, the image on this small size display looks sharp and crisp, thanks to the increased pixel density resulting from the smaller display size.

Remember this is a touchscreen display that can be operated either by hands or by a digital stylus. However, this laptop doesn’t come with a stylus bundled in the box.

Setting up a laptop in a tent mode will be helpful to watch movies or learn a new recipe while making it in the kitchen.

The panel has a brightness of 250 nits which is suitable for indoor work. But on outdoors, the display visuals are a bit hard to see under direct sunlight.

Miscellaneous

The HP Pavilion X360 comes pre-installed with the Windows 10 Home OS. A licensed version of Microsoft Home and Office 2019 is also added which is high;y beneficial for students as well as office workers.

HP provides an onboard physical fingerprint scanner for quick login and to protect important files inside your computer.

The LED-backlit keyboard on the deck has no dedicated numeric keypad. The key quality feels premium and it delivers tactile feedback while typing.

The backlighting is useful while working in a dimly-lit environment.

Battery Life

Powered by a 3-cell 41Wh lithium battery, this laptop can deliver 6 hours of screen time.

The bundled 65W AC adapter is a fast charger that juices up the battery from zero to full in under 2 hours.

Verdict

The Inspiron 3505 is a budget laptop from Dell which is possibly one of the best choices for students and beginner computer users in this price bracket.

Design and Build Quality

The Dell Inspiron as expected is made from high-quality plastic materials that don’t feel cheap at all.

The silver colour matte finish exterior looks minimal and premium at the same time.

Even though this is a plastic chassis laptop, it weighs significantly at 1.96Kg, which is a bit heavier than some other laptops we have mentioned here in this article itself.

Dell has ergonomically placed vents on the backside for air intake and exhaust vents on the sides to keep the laptop internal temperature under control.

The hinge mechanism works well to keep the display lid from wobbling, even under a speeding ceiling fan.

Connectivity Features:

The Dell Inspiron 3505 features the following I/O ports:

  • 2 x USB 3.2 ports
  • 1 x USB 2.0 port

We have tried and tested other laptops running this exact processor and had pleasant results.

The integrated AMD Radeon Vega 8 graphics works well in tandem with the processor to deliver smooth graphics performance as well.

Display

The Dell Inspiron 3505 features a 15.6-inch Full HD LED-backlit IPS display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels.

This IPS panel has good colour reproduction and contrast levels. The brightness level indoors is very much sufficient for effortless indoor viewing.

The text and visuals appear reasonably sharp, thanks to the high-resolution FHD panel.

Even though the bezels around the display are not as thin as we’d have liked, it’s quite acceptable for a 15.6-inch panel.

Miscellaneous

The Dell Inspiron 3505 comes pre-installed with the Windows 10 Home operating system.

This laptop has a full-sized keyboard and with no LED backlighting. The keys are spaced well and the key travel is suitable for fast and comfortable typing.

Right below the keyboard, an asymmetrical trackpad is provided which supports multi-finger gesture.

Battery Life

Powered by a 3-cell 42Wh lithium battery, this laptop offers nearly around 5 hours of on-screen time with moderate display brightness.

The 65W adapter provided inside the box juices up the battery within 2-2:30 hours from empty to full.

Verdict

The Dell Inspiron 3505 is a decent mid-range student laptop with a relatively powerful AMD Ryzen 5 processor inside.

The Ideapad series from Lenovo has been an instant success in the Indian market where budget-conscious buyers look for the best value for money proposition.

Priced well under Rs.50,000, the Lenovo Ideapad S145 features a powerful Intel i5 processor and delivers a buttery smooth computing experience that will delight you for sure.

Design and Build Quality

Speaking of the build quality, the construction of this laptop is done using high-quality plastic materials which feel robust in hand minus the slight flex on the C deck which is just a minor annoyance that can be safely disregarded.

The Lenovo Ideapad S145 weighs nearly 1.85Kg which is quite heavy compared to some other laptops in this similar price bracket.

However, carrying this laptop in bags and backpacks isn’t that much of a hassle is what we felt.

The plain matte silver finish on this laptop chassis makes it look premium and elegant. The 180-degrees rotating hinges of the Lenovo IdeaPad S145 feels very robust and durable.

The heat exhaust grilles are located on the bottom section of the laptop and do a decent enough job to keep the internal temperature under control.

Connectivity Features:

The Lenovo IdeaPad S145 features the following I/O ports:

  • 2 x USB 3.1 ports
  • 1 x USB 2.0 port
  • 1 x HDMI port
  • 4-in-1 card reader
  • 3.5mm combo audio jack

Processor and Performance

The CPU inside the Lenovo IdeaPad S145 is an Intel i5 10th generation quad-core processor with the base clock speed of 1.1GHz and turbo boost up to 3.6GHz.

This processor performs well with all the daily tasks such as casual web browsing, document editing, media consumption etc.

Even with multitasking, this laptop performs just fine without any noticeable hiccups.

The Lenovo Ideapad S145 comes with a hybrid storage setup that consists of a primary
256GB SSD storage and a secondary 1TB HDD for offline data storage.

This hybrid storage mechanism aids in better flexibility in terms of OS installation and file storage.

Display

The Lenovo IdeaPad S145 features a 15.6-inch Full HD LED-backlit anti-glare display with a native resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels.

This panel has decent colour reproduction and dynamic range, sufficient enough for most users except graphics designers.

Since this is not an IPS display, there seems to be a little colour shift when the display is viewed from extreme angles.

The bezels on the sides of the display are relatively narrow and offer an immersive media consumption experience.

With the maximum brightness of 220nits, this display works very well indoors, even under brightly lit environments.

Miscellaneous

The Lenovo IdeaPad S145 comes pre-installed with the Windows 10 Home OS.

The keyboard on this laptop doesn’t feature LED-backlit functionality but the keys themselves are very well laid out for comfortable typing experience.

Battery Life

The Lenovo Ideapad S145 is powered by a 2 cell 35Wh Li-ion battery that is rated to last up to 5 hours of screen on time.

Mi Notebook 14 is the first laptop that Xiaomi has officially launched in the Indian market.

Competing with the likes of Honor Magicbook 15 and the Vivobook lineup from Asus, this device packs in a lot of punch for its asking price of just under Rs.50,000.

Design and Build Quality

The Mi Notebook 14 is made out of lightweight aluminium to enhance the build quality while maintaining lightweight characteristics.

Also, this metal build makes this laptop feel similar to that of the Apple Macbooks, which is of course a very good thing.

However, the hinge mechanism of this laptop feels a little bit less robust as the monitor lid wobbles a bit when kept under a ceiling fan. This can very well be an issue with individual units so please take it with a grain of salt.

Weight at just 1.5Kg, this 14-inch form factor ultrabook is very easy to deal with and carry around.

The single exhaust fan inside keeps the internal temperature under check but at times it gets a bit louder for our liking.

Connectivity Features:

The MI notebook 14 features the following I/O ports:

  • 2 x USB 3.1 ports
  • 1 x USB 2.0 port
  • 1 x HDMI port
  • 3.5mm combo audio jack

Processor and Performance

The Mi notebook 14 is powered by the tenth generation Intel i5 quad-core processor clocked at 1.6GHz.

This CPU can turbo boost up to 4.2GHz depending on the processor load.

This CPU is powerful enough to deal with all your casual computing needs and as a cherry on top, this ultrabook comes loaded with a dedicated 2GB Nvidia MX250 GPU.

This will let you have the flexibility to do some video editing, casual gaming and much more without having to stress too much on the processor.

The 512GB SSD storage as expected is fast and reliable and elevates the everyday performance to a whole new level.

The 8GB DDR4 RAM is enough for basic multitasking for the most part. This is soldered on to the motherboard and there are no additional expansion slots on the motherboard.

Display

The Mi notebook 14 has a 14-inch Full HD anti-glare display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels.

Speaking of the bezels, the sides bezels are narrow but the upper and bottom chin is
slightly thicker. The thin bezels on the sides make this display look wider than the actual size and provides an immersive media consumption.

Thanks to the 14-inch form factor, the pixel density is higher which results in sharper and clean visuals and text.

The colour accuracy is decent for the price and the dynamic range is satisfactory as well. In terms of brightness, you won’t find much trouble using this device indoors.

Miscellaneous

The Mi notebook 14 comes pre-installed with the Windows 10 Home OS.

The keyboard on this laptop is kind of a hit and miss affair. The keys are well spaced and have decent travel distance but it is not backlit.

This makes the keyboard harder to use at night or under dimly-lit conditions.

The trackpad story is no different as well. Even though it is well-positioned where the fingers will naturally come in contact with, the gesture actions seem a bit finicky at times.

Instead of integrating the webcam with the upper chin of the display bezel, Xiaomi has included it separately in the box.

Battery Life

The Mi Notebook 14 is powered by a 46Wh lithium-ion battery that Xiaomi claims to last up to 10 hours but in real usage, you will get anywhere from 5-7 hours of screen on time.

The bundled 65W AC adapter in the box juices up the battery life from 0-100% in 2-3 hours.

Verdict

If you are after a lightweight laptop with a metal build and excellent everyday performance, the Mi Notebook is a good choice for a budget under Rs.50,000.

The glossy HP logo on the outer shell provides this laptop with a professional vibe.

Weighing just 1.7Kg, the HP 15s is portable and compact enough to be carried anywhere you go without much hassle.

  • 2 x USB 3.1 ports
  • 1 x USB Type-C port
  • 1 x HDMI port

Processor and Performance

The onboard 8GB DDR4 RAM is adequate for most casual uses including some multitasking instances as well.

This CPU is complemented by an integrated AMD Radeon Vega 8 GPU to deal with graphics processing and it does a pretty good job at that.

Speaking of the storage, the 512GB SSD inside this machine is fast and reliable and delivers buttery smooth computing performance.

Display

The HP 15s features a 15.6-inch Full HD WLED-backlit anti-glare display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels.

This FHD panel is good enough for most of the daily tasks but not meant for colour calibration work such as video editing.

The peak brightness level of 220 nits makes this panel good enough for indoor usage without any issues.

The anti-glare coating on top of the display helps in minimising the light reflectivity and reduces the stress on your eyes.

Speaking up for the bezels, it’s thin from the sides but relatively thicker at the top and the bottom sections.

Miscellaneous

The HP 15s come pre-installed with the activated Windows 10 Home OS. Apart from that, you will also get Microsoft home and office 2019 license with lifetime free access.

The keyboard given on deck has a dedicated numeric pad. The key travel distance is optimal and clicks response is good enough to have a comfortable typing experience.

The trackpad on this laptop supports gesture recognition and is powered by the Microsoft Windows precision drivers.

Battery Life

The HP 15s is powered by a 3-cell 41Wh lithium-ion battery that will last you up to five hours on a single charge.

The 65W supplied charger supposes fast charging and juices up the laptop within 2 hours.

Verdict

The HP 15s is a perfect laptop for students and office workers alike for a budget under Rs.50,000.

The powerful Ryzen processor along with the FHD display and comfortable keyboard makes it a viable product worth considering.
