Samsung Galaxy M31S Launched on Amazon Prime Day

by | Aug 7, 2020

Samsung M31S comes as a slight upgrade to the popular Galaxy M31 smartphone which is one of the best non-Chinese smartphones available in the Indian market under a price bracket of just Rs.20,000.

The Galaxy M31S has been launched in India as a part of the Amazon prime day sales campaign, which is exclusive for Prime members as of now.

Introduction

The Samsung Galaxy M31S boasts almost the same design and internal specs of its lower-priced sibling but with a few minor changes to the camera and the display.

Prices starting under Rs.20,000 for the 6GB/128GB variant, the M31S is for those who want their hands on a non-Chinese smartphone with good day to day performance, excellent battery life and a gorgeous AMOLED display.

Design and Build Quality

The Galaxy M31 has a glass front, glass + plastic back design which we are familiar with some of the mid-range A series Samsung phones out there.

The glass + plastic back looks and feels very much premium as that of a glass bodied smartphone while retaining the lightweight form factor.

The fingerprint scanner on the M31S is now incorporated with the power button and is placed in a comfortable position where your thumbs will naturally rest.

The 3.5mm headphone jack, speaker and the USB type C charging port are present in the bottom portion of the body.

The front display is protected by Corning’s Gorilla Glass 3 to prevent accidental scratches. Samsung has also included the option for a dedicated SD card slot along with the dual SIM capability.

Processor and Performance

The Samsung Galaxy M31S is powered by the Exynos 9611 octa-core processor – the same CPU we have seen with the cheaper Galaxy M30s, M21 etc.

We wish Samsung could have gone in for a more powerful processor, but it is what it is.
In terms of performance, the Samsung Galaxy M31S is very smooth in day to day tasks. With the 6GB onboard RAM, you will feel no lags or stutters with this device.

Games like PUBG Mobile and Fortnite will run without any problems as well.

The One UI 2.1 running on top of the Android 10.0 Q is well optimized for improved performance and power efficiency.

The best thing about this smartphone is the lack of bloatware that we are used with Chinese smartphones such as Redmi and Realme.

The Galaxy M31S comes with UFS 2.1 storage which further enhances the performance just like an SSD would do with a laptop.

Display

The display is one of Samsung’s strong forte. Samsung makes the best AMOLED panel in the whole world. Period.

The M31S features the same 6.5-inch AMOLED display with an FHD+ resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels.

With a pixel density of ~405ppi, this display is very sharp and detailed. The colours pop out and thanks to the infinite contrast levels we get inky deep blacks which makes the visuals look stunning.

Unlike the drop notch display of the M31, the Galaxy M31S now features a punch-hole camera cut out that looks more clean and polished.

Camera

The Galaxy M31S comes with a quad rear camera setup which is enclosed inside a signature rectangular enclosure along with a two-tone flash.

The primary sensor is the 64MP f/1.8 aperture sensor with PDAF support followed by the 12MP ultra-wide sensor, 5MP macro and a 5MP depth sensor for bokeh mode shots.

Samsung has added the same feature-rich camera app with a ton of settings in this smartphone for you to experiment with these sensors and get the most out of it.

The images look sharp and detailed and the colour reproduction is very much leaned towards natural tones.

The front camera is a 32MP f/2.0 aperture sensor with HDR support and slow-mo capability.

Both the front and rear cameras can record 4K videos up to 30fps without any issues.

The videos are digitally stabilized to reduce shakes and jitters. There is also a dedicated night mode for capturing photos in low light conditions with less noise and more details.

Battery Life

The Samsung Galaxy M31S is powered by a massive 6000mAh Li-ion battery. This battery will last easily for two days even with heavy usage.

Samsung has included a 25W fast charger in the box that will help you juice up this mammoth battery in just one hour and 40 minutes.

There is also an option to have wired reverse charging with which you can charge other accessories using this smartphone.

Verdict

The Samsung M31S is a well-built, feature-rich non-Chinese smartphone available in the market at a starting price of just Rs.19,999.

If you are looking to purchase a smartphone for media consumption and daily usage, there is perhaps no better choice at present other than the M31S and its younger sibling the M31 at present.

Pros:

Elegant design
Wired reverse charging
Included 25W fast charger

Cons:

Less powerful Exynos 9611
