1. Ultimate Ears Boom 2

ultimate-ears-boom-2
Overall Best Pick
  • 360-degrees loud sound output
  • Up to 15 hours of battery life
  • IPX7 waterproof construction

The UE Boom 2 LE is a premium Bluetooth speaker which delivers 360 degrees sound output, perfect for parties and outdoor usage.

The UE Boom 2 LE priced around Rs.10,000 competes with the likes of JBL Flip series portable Bluetooth speakers and has comparable sound output quality.

Design and Build Quality

The UE Boom 2 is one of the robust built Bluetooth speakers out there. Made from tough polycarbonate plastic and fabric materials, this device is virtually indestructible even with rough and careless usage.

The tower design of this Bluetooth speaker helps it to be placed either vertically or horizontally depending on your choice.

The UE Boom 2 LE is IPX7 waterproof. You can use this speaker outdoors in the poolside or beach without the fear of water damaging the functionality.

There is a D-ring on the bottom portion of this Bluetooth speaker for easy portability. You can easily remove this D-ring to reveal a tripod insert which can fit any standard tripods available in the market.

The UE Boom 2 has a 3.5mm Aux-in port for wired speaker connectivity tucked under a flap for ensuring water resistance.

The big volume control buttons adorn the front section of this Bluetooth speaker. These buttons are quite stiff to press when new but you will get used to it after a while.

Speakers and Sound Quality

The UE Boom 2 LE consists of 2 x 45mm speaker drivers which sound very loud and clear – even at maximum volume without any distortions whatsoever.

These two drivers are supplemented by two 45mm x 80mm passive bass radiators for rich, deep bass notes.

The bass from this speaker is surprisingly enjoyable and overpower neither the vocals nor the higher end treble notes.

Connectivity Features

The UE Boom 2 LE comes standard with Bluetooth and NFC connectivity. This wireless speaker can be paired up with two source devices at once.

With NFC enabled devices, you can pair the speaker just with a tap. Additionally, there is an AUX-in port for wired connectivity as well.

Battery Life

The UE Boom 2 LE is rated to last for up to 15 hours on a single charge. This number is highly subjective and can vary depending on the volume level, operating temperature etc.

The battery inside this speaker takes around 2.5 hours to completely charge from zero to hundred.

2. JBL Flip 5

jbl-flip-5
Runner-Up Pick
  • Powerful, sound loud output
  • 12 hours of battery life
  • Excellent stereo stage separation

JBL Flip 5 is the latest Flip series portable Bluetooth speaker from JBL priced well under Rs.10,000.

The Flip series is known for its build quality and powerful sound output and the Flip 5 doesn’t disappoint on that front.

Design and Build Quality

The JBL Flip 4 was a cylinder. Well to be precise, a loved-by-everyone kind of cylinder. We’re happy that Flip 5 decided to keep the same form factor intact.

The nylon fabric is awesome as always and feels very tough. The control buttons are a bit raised this time, giving awesome tactile feedback when pressed.

We feel that the JBL Flip 5 weighs more than the Flip 5. That’s our thought and even then, this cute Bluetooth speaker is a joy to carry around.

Speaker and Sound Quality

We were impressed by how well the Flip 4 sounded. The Flip 5 sounds even better. The bass is more pronounced this time around. You’ll feel the punch for sure.

The mids and highs are clear and sound pure. We didn’t notice any kind of distortion even at maximum volume levels.

But we did feel a tiny lack of detailing in the sound of certain instruments. Not a deal-breaker though as most of us won’t even notice the difference at all.

Water Resistance

The JBL Flip 5 comes with a standard splash and spill resistance. This time around the company has added an IPX7 certification to the bunch.

Now you can submerge this wireless speaker up to 1m of water for 30 minutes without any damage to this product.

Beware, this speaker doesn’t float. So better drop somewhere you can easily pick it up.

Miscellaneous

The JBL Connect feature has received an upgrade on the Flip 5 Bluetooth speaker. You can now pair up to 100 speakers at once. Yes, a hundred.

The only downside of this feature is that now the Connect + feature isn’t backwards compatible.

In short, sweet words, you can only connect a connect + certified device to the Flip 5 and not the other way around.

The signal reception is exceptionally good. We were able to pair up the device and roam around the office without any break in the signal.

Battery Life

Fret not, the battery life is pretty good with the JBL Flip 5. Our device lasted for about 15 hours of continuous music playback on a single charge. If you’re listening at full volume, expect this to drop significantly.

Verdict

The overall performance from the JBL Flip 5 is phenomenal making it the best portable Bluetooth speaker priced under Rs.10,000.

The excellent sound quality coupled with the superb battery life and build quality make this product one of the best in this budget.

Speaker and Sound Quality

The LG XBoom Go PK3 comes equipped with dual 45mm speakers with bass radiators on each side.

These speakers produced excellent quality sound output for the price, rich with really deep bass notes and impressive mids and highs.

LG has partnered with Meridian technology, a pioneer in the audio field for tuning the speakers to deliver the best possible sound experience on a budget speaker.

Since the speakers are oriented towards the listener, a complete 360-degree uniform sound throw isn’t yet possible, but the loudness of the speaker makes up for it.

Connectivity

This portable Bluetooth speaker has Bluetooth v4.2 protocol for low energy (LE) wireless connectivity.

It also comes with AptX support for high fidelity wireless music playback.

If you already own a smartphone with AptX support, the LG XBoom Go PK3 will be an excellent add-on accessory.
